Re: Foley signs..with the Argos

Jim, we still must trust the two parties involved first; the Lions and rickie, both of whom agreed to terms.

forgive us our stupidity.

It will never happen again.

Interesting.. that is why Blake is the best I guess.
Lionheart, I don't think Braley has or wants any involvement in this.

It does look bad though. Any of these disputes look bad. IMO

It looks to me like Ricky backed out. Wally didn't challenge it. Did Wally even really want him all that much?

A guy who didn't really want to be here negotiating with a guy who did not really want him.

Re: Foley signs..with the Argos

No I don't believe he had direct involvement either, and it was not implied as such. However, that though *may* be in wally's mind... hmm t.o. is owned by my boss...

I think though you saying that neither party wanting each other is a stretch though, and a guess. Not by the evidence.. (wally does downplay for the purpose of negotiations, I'm sure it's natural for him)

You're wrong. There were three people involved.

Don't forget the agent.

Thanks for playing... :2cents:

I agree, Pauser, that one would have to know if Wally intentionally or accidentally gave Ricky an out if he wanted it.

Wally had a binding contract from the very second they agreed on the terms.

Wally then sent the contract terms to league office.

The signatures can come later, but the contract is already in force, if Wally had chosen to fight for it.

Wally did not give him a chance to back out of the contract until later. If you keep giving "chances" to change your mind you do not have a deal at that point.

You're completely wrong.

Verbal agreements never constitute a binding contract. Never ever.

Whatever it was that BC faxed to the league offices did not have a signature which makes it worthless - - other than as a souvenir to remember the one that got away.

Dude, quite urinating in the wind. Oral agreements are binding contracts... except in realestate.

I would add that in this case there is the radio interview that sheds some degree of the situation in the Lions favour. However the optics will come into play on the Braley owned teams should someone pursue it, but I doubt either side is going to do that.

Yeah they are binding, Area51. But Wally obviously didn't care all that much. He told Ricky to see his family, to think about it.

How are things in Courtice, by the way?

Ricky had a lot of fans out here. I loved the way he played. Oh yeah. Great hustle. Go back and check. I was very critical of Wally for the stupidity with Butler.

You don't mind sticking it to Wally. That is clear. But did Ricky stick it to him? Or was it just a change of heart? At least Wally gave him the chance to change his mind. That was considerate.

There may be a slight case to suggest that Area51 is correct in that the CFL league office would have to sign off on any contract to make it binding, and I don't think that happened here.

Tighthead and I discussed that earlier.

Multi level deal. Like Kovalchuk with the NHL and Joe Kapp with the NFL.

But a deal is binding between the lower parties. Kovalchuk and the Devils were bound to each other pending approval from the higher authority, the NHL.

Well, the fact remains, without Foley, we could use a passrushing DE.

We are still 3-7, we still play Hamilton, it would be nice to add someoone.

Foley would have fit perfectly, eh water under the bridge.

Re: Foley signs..with the Argos

I just spent the better part of an hour on the phone with someone who knows the mechanics of the situation.

This one is almost all on Foley's head. The agent can share some of the shame.

The Lions were above board on this one.
