Do nothing as it's all been said for several years on Lionbackers.com (offensive schemes, coaching).
I feel bad for the loyal fans who have up to now been buying the GM/HC's message that schemes are not an issue. These are the ones who always believed that when Wally let a player go it was likely a good thing as he knew how to find their best before date. To me that is like tossing the milk and food out just in case it goes bad on you. It is like any business that has the cut throat philosophy that is not seen to be cuts based on performance (granted some here is SMS cuts). Employees will not perform at a top level in that case. It catches up to management - I think the Lions are there now.
I am disappointed it has come to this but not being enamored with Wally's cuts in recent years and promoting/rehiring JC, letting Dave Ritchie escape and even Stef Kruk, retooling for a new offensive line that it was only a matter of time that the day of reckoning would come. I thought this would lead to mediocre performances down the road - not quite as bad as it looks now. Jarius will improve I am sure but him alone wont fix it. The dumb penos must be dealt with but last week they let a receiver go - who I dont recall taking a host of dumb penos or dropping passes like others.
The GM/HC is all over the map these recent years in how he looks at personnel. He seems far from his old view that he won with and that was finding his own talent and committing and developing it. His lack of commitment in recent years to guys doing their jobs is showing now.

I was very critical of the coaching decisions but now feel kind of sorry as I don't like to see people failing nor do I want to see people losing their jobs. To me JC is possibly salvageable IF they were to bring in an offensive consultant with some suasion with the HC where it is clear to JC that he is to listen, learn and take advice from this new guy up in the booth. It can be made clear that this is not more than a short term gig for a guy who will help tweak the offense and possibly help rebalance the attack and use more runs - if they have the talent there. But this guy must have the ear of the HC/GM and the HC/GM would have to tell JC. that here is a way to save your job. Wally is a good propagandist and can spin a story that says they are bringing in a consultant to help their running game develop and coach that when really he has a broader mandate and will suggest ways to tweak the offense and assist in sending down plays that the OC best give very serious consideration to using. Another way that is backward looking and hard to do while the season is on is give JC a consultant who sits with him and reviews game film and shows him where he might have done something different to beat a blitz, etc. In many businesses they will say - if we have to do that let's just fire the guy and hire the consultant. But this is a way out if JC is to survive because if he doesn't survive what team in the CFL would ever hire him as an OC? None. He'd be looking for a gig back in the CIS.

Snatch the title of loveable losers from the Rider fans? Remember, before they got good, when everyone liked them and felt a little sorry for them.

Go to games and continue to cheer them on. The good news is that the Esks are just as bad and it won't take much to beat them out of the playoffs.
If you stay away, you may find your selves without a team or a league.
Braley is keeping 2 teams alive already. Hitting him in the wallet wouldn't be the smartest thing to do.
Changes need to be made and they will. It's a question of when and it may be necessary to wait out the season and hope for the best this year.

keep supporting the team and ride it out. It's a rebuilding year. it's not like we haven't been through this.

With the crossover, I'm not so sure the Esks are our biggest threat to missing the playoffs.Blue In BC wrote:Go to games and continue to cheer them on. The good news is that the Esks are just as bad and it won't take much to beat them out of the playoffs.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

I like the idea of the paper bag over the head and if the Lions go 4 and 14, which I now see as a possibility, one could always switch from paper to plastic.
I now look forward to each loss as another nail in the coaches coffin. Personnel is not the problem and Buono and Shivers still seem to work well together finding players (Henderson, Eliminian, and Franks have exceeded expectations) so I would like to see Wally remain as GM but hire a new HC, OC, and O line coach for next year.

Re: As Fans, What do we do?
It's a been tough to watch. I was planning to make a two trips out to BC to see Lions at Empire. I won't be doing that now. I can't justify the costs knowing that there is a good chance that they will play badly.
I will, however, go out and support the team when they play in Calgary. It's been hard seeing the Stamps have a such a good season while seeing the Lions flounder.

Re: As Fans, What do we do?
As the losses pile up, we cheer quietly, knowing that our offensive offensive coordinator and offensive line coach will have to be shown the door.
Since the first snap of the ball in 05, our offense has been mediocre to poor. Great personnel, great scouting, great defensive coaching, and a great QB (who even when he wasn't healthy, could help his understudies perform well) all served to carry JC's butt. Well, we ain't winning no more, and JC and DD are getting exposed more and more.

This is the hard part of being a fan, when the team you love is doing this poorly, there is little to be done except celebrate what you can celebrate.

If you believe that you will also believe that Gary Butler is the best prospect that Buono has ever seen.JohnHenry wrote: Wally has said he doesn't read the newspapers and doesn't read the on-line messages, he doesn't even own a computer.
