Yeah... don't know what you've got til it's gone... seems to be countering his own argument.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Should have quoted the guy that said Braley wasn't that great an owner, then I lumped in the people that think Wally should go. Basically we have it pretty good now, and it could be scary without Braley as owner.

Agreed. As the saying go, be careful what you wish for! Just like with the stadium I used to cringe at calls for the end of BC Place thinking oh oh, the politicians could jump on that and say to the private sector, you build a stadium and BC Lions would be playing in a small venue with ticket prices rising like hockey tickets have to be priced as the seating is too small (of course it would not be hockey prices).

I would fear Aquilini although he has done nothing bad to the Canucks. I guess my fear would be his potential need to have his guy in charge like he did with Mike Gillis and if people think there are better than Wally out there, I'd like to see the list. You can say look at Mark Trestman and how great he has acclimated to the CFL but he had a great QB and team already. Yes he is brilliant but you can look at a lot of other disasters and changes at executive levels and coaching levels and they aren't pretty.

While David Braley may say and do things that irk some of us at times, the bottom line is that he has been great as an owner. Even Bobby Ackles on the old commissioner spoke out publicly in disagreement with his owner on that topic. That just shows how he leaves his people in place to run his business according to business plans and budgets and doesn't meddle.

For those of us who saw other owners here who weren't as good for the franchise, yes, we fear change. Oh yah, there were the Gliebermans in Ottawa, Feterik in Calgary... and a lot of bad coaches in other franchises as the owners didn't understand how it is done successfully like a David Braley does.

Let's hope if he leaves he gets it right as after he is gone, it's a new game.

The other thing that I heard even on TSN with Chris Cuthbert was whether Wally would go upstairs in future. I can't see that. I can see him saying when he is done, that he is gone. Not just GM and definitely he'd not be club President as that is not what he is suited to do or even would like to do. He is not a GM like a Brian Burke who does the public and community stuff as much as he does the sports business side. Wally is a football operations guy only and I don't think he'd like to be off the field like many GMs. I see him coaching until he doesn't want to coach and then maybe he might transition to GM for a year or two - but as I see him I doubt he'd be comfy just as GM. I also thinks he knows that if he quit that he might have too much time on his hands with nothing much to do and that is a motivator to continue. He is not stupid.

But for me, a change in ownership if not the right guy might spook the GM/HC and that is not what is needed now.

Is Greg Kerfoot got any money left over to buy the Lions. There is another good owner!
