I have two of those ancient pieces of equipment to go along with my reel to reel and turntable. ;-) I haven't taped anything in 10 years. I like to see the game when it's being played. If I can't I don't have much interest in watching the broadcast later. By the time I'd start watching a tape I'd already have checked out the score, stats etc on the 'net. Having said that I don't mind the availability of TSN Video on Demand. I occasionally use that to rewatch some specific plays, usually if there's some sort of debate ongoing in the forums. But I don't watch the whole game whether I missed it or not when it was originally aired.

In my case I am leaving Thursday for the US, and I will be gone 3 weeks. In that time we have the WF and GC. I only get the GC on TV there so would you suggest I PVR the WF and watch it a week or 2 after the GC? :bang:

I know about RECORDING.. it isn't always an option.

Re: Ratings not good for Saturday games

The fact that there were 0 Eastern teams playing last weekend had almost everything to do with the low ratings. The fans they did get watching in Ontario were most likely the die hards. The casual Argo/Ti-cat fans don't care about the Esks or the Bombers or who the Als will be playing. And most Als fans who care were probably watching on RDS. Now that the Riders are out, the ratings may suffer even more next week. This is one more reason the league (and TSN) need Ottawa back. With 3 of 4 East teams in Ontario they are guaranteed a playoff team even in a cross over year.

You just do what ya gotta do . I watched the last 2 Lions games on TSN2 after the game was over , due to poor timing of the original game . By being disciplined and NOT checking the score or listening to any radio , it was just like watching the game live for me . For you to take off for 3 weeks of the play-offs , well that's just poor timing on your part . But you could still record and watch a game after the fact if you so choose .

Re: Ratings not good for Saturday games

Or just watch it streaming on ESPN360..... I have no patience or willpower :roar:

Oh and I didn't "take 3 weeks off", and it has nothing to do with my timing. I live and work in both places. Considering the weather right now, and the fact the GC is on TV there... I have no problem with the timing of going to California.

As I had to also, but I did PVR it, but knew the score before hand, thanks to some music station on the radio....sigh. Somehow I still managed to enjoy the last one emmensly despite knowing the outcome. :)

But you could have turned the radio off , and it would have been a "live" experience for you .

Having said that , while I greatly enjoyed watching last weeks game that way , the week before , well , the "live" experience was not that great .

Re: Ratings not good for Saturday games

Will this w/e be any better???

Will miss most of 1st game due to sons outdoor activities(most kids have soccer saturday not sunday)

Sat 1130-430 500+ rugby players active in lower mainland

then what impact will the stupid canuck/laff game have seeing it starts at 4

Lions game wont be over til 5

Disappointed in TSN for this(as u may guess)

Just to point out and I do know, boys play soccer Saturday, girls play Sunday. Nicely added into that equation is the flip rotation of North Coquitlam adding boys practices on Sunday and girls practices on Saturday, for a special developmental program.

Yeah I get Versus on Time-Warner cable so I have the GC covered, I was just saying I have to watch the WF on streaming vid online.

You don't need more proof than this that Saturday afternoon football is not going to fly...

Only about 20,000 expected for the Eastern Final at the Big Owe (what a joke!):

And the Bombers had a 20% increase in attendance for this year's Saturday playoff game versus last year's Sunday playoff game.
Riders another sellout with 2145 more seats to fill this year.
Calgary almost sold out. They would be sold out already as they were in 2006 when the Riders came calling which can create an asterisk effect they way their fans come out of the woodwork for playoff games wherever they are held. Calgary would be guaranteed a sellout again if the Lions didn't win last week. Reports are that they are close enough to a sellout now that it may only take a good weather forecast to complete the job. In 2005 they played Edmonton in a Battle of Alberta playoff game that drew 26799.

We'll have to see what the actual numbers are for Montreal, but so far for the Saturday playoffs we have:

Bombers - 20% increase.
Riders - another sellout at increased capacity.
Calgary - close to sellout which would be over 8000 more than their last Rider-less Sunday playoff.

Looks to me there has been zero gate impact because of the change of dates. A case could be made that it's helped more than hurt.

Sure are digging hard to find your sources. It used to be only Jim Mullin was trustworthy. Then you added David Pratt. Now you're going with whatever you can find on a fan forum as your reliable source.

Re: Ratings not good for Saturday games

I would think the biggest factor working against the Montreal playoff game is the fact that they're hosting Grey Cup in the same stadium the following week. The Lions faced the same situation in 1999 and 2005 and attendance at the final was on the low side.
