Want an NFL team?

Fork out a billion

News Services

Published: Thursday, September 11, 2008

The NFL is the first professional sports league to have its franchises average over $1 billion in value, with the Dallas Cowboys remaining atop Forbes magazine's annual rankings.

The average value for an NFL team this year is $1.04 billion, mostly because of revenue from seating and sponsorships at new stadiums, Forbes reported in its ranking of the 32 teams. The Cowboys, owned by Jerry Jones, are worth $1.61 billion, a seven-per-cent rise over 2007.

Values have more than tripled from $288 million since Forbes first began the ranking 10 years ago.

Daniel Snyder's Washington Redskins ($1.54 billion) remained second after leading the rankings for seven years.
Jerry Jones' team is worth a cool $1.61 billion. Yikes. I have to say I liked them better when Jimmy Johnson ("How 'bout them Cowboys?") was coaching. And when Bobby Ackles was there.

All games worth a look, IMO. That Monday Nighter (Eagles/Cowboys) should be a good one. I hope the 72 Dolphins get to pop the cork, then that story can be put away until next season. But I'm sure someone will be 2-0 even if it's not the usual suspects (Patriots/Colts).

I never liked that Dolphins team of '72, and they behave very poorly whenever a team threatens their record.

The Dolphins defeated the Bears (Da Bearss) in 1986, their only defeat that year. Dan Marino played a great game that day.

Brett Favre is awesome, wake. I'd like to see him beat the Patriots, but my money would have to be on the Patriots, even without Tom Brady.

Mangini used to work for Belichick, and, for a while, there was bad blood between them, after Mangini went to the Jets. They patched it up since then. Should be an interesting game.

taking brady out of the pats lineup is just one person, but its basically like taking the engine out of a dodge truck and putting the engine of a chevy sprint back in. i just dont see them winning to many games with "Mr. Backup".

Re: Official NFL Thread 2008-2009

Patriots (2-0-0) 3 3 10 3 19
Jets (1-1-0) 0 3 0 7 10

NE: M. Cassel (16-23, 165) , W. Welker (7-72)
NYJ: B. Favre (18-26, 181) , L. Coles (3-72)

Cassel looks like he could be Tom Brady's younger brother. Plays like him too. Similar stats in their first games. Not bad for the first start as a QB since high school.
....................

Steelers (2-0-0) 0 7 3 0 10
Browns (0-2-0) 0 0 3 3 6

PIT: B. Roethlisberger (12-19, 186) , W. Parker (28-105)
CLE: D. Anderson (18-32, 166) , K. Winslow (7-55)

NFL style game. Not much scoring. Heavy hitting. Love the Steelers intensity.
.....................

Packers (2-0-0) 7 14 3 24 48
Lions (0-2-0) 0 3 6 16 25

GB: A. Rodgers (24-38, 328) , G. Jennings (6-167)
DET: J. Kitna (21-41, 276) , C. Johnson (6-129)

Rodgers looks like he was ready to step out the shadow of Brett Favre.
.....................

Chargers (0-2-0) 3 14 10 11 38
Broncos (2-0-0) 7 24 0 8 39

SD: P. Rivers (21-33, 377) , C. Chambers (4-83)
DEN: J. Cutler (36-50, 350) , B. Marshall (18-166)

Shanahan had the team go for the 2 point convert at the end of the game. All or nothing. Gotta love that.

Steelers game was pretty boring, tried to watch it, ended up watching the lions game again :roar:

Was disappointed with the chargers, tho with LT out they might be suspect. He came back but didnt do much

Where is the Matt Cassel that was saw in the preseason? That Cassel was WAY more fun to watch. The Seahawks blow another one, Holmgren should be on the hook for not going out and finding some recievers to replace the ones that are injured. Not impressed that he's done NOTHING.

Still waiting for Aaron Rogers to get injured, it'll happen eventually. Lions defense is rather weak, so cant take too much out of this game.

Tonights game should be bad ass, my cowboys vs the Sneagles.....GO GO T O!

Re: Official NFL Thread 2008-2009

Some surprising games to be sure. I like the effort the CFL makes in officiating but the NFL does have us beat there. I like the new 'no-force-out' rule but still think the one foot should be enough, especially if 'one knee equals two feet-John Madden'.

I also am looking forward to the Eagles/Cowboys.

Re: Official NFL Thread 2008-2009

This might be a year of changes. Last year the Browns looked good BUT last night, not so much. Clock management was AWFUL.

The Colts. A wins a win but Sanders hurt and the Offence looked blah. You have to adjust when opponents have adjusted to your strengths. Help Manning hurt teams that aren't being punished for blitzes.

Seahawks. I am not so sure Holmgren wants to go out like this. He's really tried in Seattle and a few breaks maybe he's got an Emerald SuperBowl ring too. But it ain't happening this year. They look awful and had better get going. THey were up 14 points and lost an overtime game at home :wag:

Excellant game tonight. Cowboys over Eagles 41 37. Except for the last minute of kneel downs it was a barn burner. BB

:whs: The Eagles last drive was UGLY. I thought it was an exciting game and as the announcers noted 'not much of T.O.' in the second half. That stadium is LOUD. Wonder if they use 'piped-in-noise'
