CBC News: Morning is looking for 2 Lions fans to be on TV

I'm Bill Cooney, an Associate Producer with CBC News: Morning television.
We are looking for 2 Lions fans to be on our show on the morning of Friday, Nov. 23 to show their support for the B.C. Lions.
We are looking for 2 Lions fans who will be in Toronto on Friday morning and willing to do a live interview with us, on-camera.

If you're interested and will be in Toronto on Friday morning, send me an email.

Why would they be seeking Lions fans if they don't even know yet whether the team will be in the Grey Cup? Strange.

Wonderful. We'll be sure to hear from all the conspiracy theory-toting Sask fans after this.

My take:

There are fans of every team that go to the GC every year in their team's colours regardless of whether their team makes it or not. These may be the folks to whom Cooney is referring. He could be soliciting fans for every team through various channels. If the Lions win Sunday, all the better.

Alternatively, scheduling these things can require some lead time, so perhaps he's looking right now for fans from all four teams still alive and will simply cancel on the fans of the teams that are eliminated on Sunday.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Alternatively, scheduling these things can require some lead time (he probably wants to get fans booked before departing their hometowns to travel to Toronto), so perhaps he's looking right now for fans from all four teams still alive and will simply cancel on the fans of the teams that are eliminated on Sunday.

That's probably it. Must be an in-studio thing, too, if they require people to be in Toronto.

Exactly, and it will be too difficult to begin arranging this next week when the very fans to whom they want to get their message out (and whose participation they want) will not necessarily be able to get the message on this while they're away from home and (maybe) their usual tools of communication.

It's a good thing you both had all the orange and black permanently tattooed on your faces then, isn't it? If it was just face paint, like everyone else wears, it would be a mess in the morning :)
