with 3000 or so tickets available to 7-11 (no doubt most are gone) might the Lions take back 7-11's unsold tickets and dump them onto ticketmaster as being available?

I agree 120db that 7-11 thing is a joke but it is all over the league so they have to go with it, don't worry all the 7-11 tickets will be gone.

Good stuff. It looks like you have a chance at a complete sell out and if not between 55,000 and 57,000. You guys are putting Toronto to shame and thats good. They should be ashamed.
Re-read the comments that you generated over on 13thman.com with this "Toronto should be ashamed" garbage. Both Vancouver AND Toronto should be proud this weekend with putting almost 100k fans in the seats between the two cities and Toronto will add another 53k next weekend.

That is becaus they have the grey cup there, like we did in 2005.

People do not want to spend more money when the Grey Cup is costing you at least $250.00 a ticket.

News 1130 reported 51,000 this morning, so I'm pretty bang on lol.

Ticketmaster may be a bit loaded down this morning with Celine Dion tickets flying; look at these crazy prices:

Celine will play GM Place October 20th, 2008. You can get your seat through Ticketmaster for anywhere from $62-$520, and then there are fees and taxes on top of that.

nice to know at least you can take your family to the Western Final and not have to take out a second mortgage

Given Toronto's size, you'd think they'd have no problem selling out an East Final. But yes, one major factor is commitments to the Grey Cup already -- something that affected the Lions in 2005.

Overall though, the CFL is very low on the radar compared to other sports. Obviously the Leafs are #1 (just like hockey trumps the CFL in MTL/CGY/EDM/VAN) but there are also the Blue Jays taking away attention during the summer and now the Raptors.

And having spent some time there I can say there is a very strong preference for the NFL over the CFL. I think passion for the three-down game is a lot deeper outside of Ontario.

But hey, if the Argos can hit 45,000 that's pretty good. No one should criticize them for that...

Yeah but the NFL talk has died down a lot when those too billonairs came out and said that the media blown it out of proprtion by saying they could get an NFL team there very soon, when they came out and said that the onlt thing they were interested in is the Bills playing some games there over the next 5 years.

So that has died down a lot, if torornt was not a good cfl city they would not even come close to selling out the Grey Cup and would not average 31,000 this year wich they did.

So i say 40,000 for the eastern final is great, actually it put us to shame when we could only get 37,000 for the WF in 2005.

Toronto is a good CFL city, it just isn't living up to its potential, in my opinion.

One thing that does help Grey Cup attendance in any city are the many people who plan to travel to the event well in advance, regardless of what teams will be involved. And in Toronto's case, it's been so long since the last time there was a Grey Cup there, so that's had to help.

I guess what I'm saying is when the GTA has like five million people -- more than twice the population of Metro Vancouver -- and roughly the same sized building to fill, something must be affecting ticket sales for Argos games. The only thing I can think of is just the presence of other pro sports (MLB and NBA) as well as, again, strong interest in the NFL.

Wow, 51,000 and there's still a day and a half until game day? A sell-out is still a very good possibility.

I really don't think you need our help.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

They should give them until noon Saturday then collect unsold tickets from every 7-11 and use that inventory on Ticketmaster Saturday night and at the BC Place box office for walk-ups. I'll be pissed if I see empty blue seats in the Level 2 east endzone Sunday afternoon.

There is a precedence for this. The club used to collect unsold Safeway Section seats for big games.

Anyone have an idea when the Riders arrive? I would think sometime this afternoon. This will help crystalize the magnitude of the game for people when the opponent comes to town and start talking it up etc.

But he'll be overjoyed nonetheless that your post just stretched this thread onto its 87th page.
