You are right OS99; he WAS better for the season until he went and pissed it away with this play!! I am always behind MY team and try to defend everyone but in this instance he was hot headed and did not think of the impact on the player he hit, how it would hurt his team and now he is paying the price. There is no doubt Jiminez is an impact player and a very good O-lineman; in this instance he was wrong to hurt his teammates thoughOrangeShoes99 wrote:I suggest you go and look at how many times Jiminez was flagged for a major penalty this year. I think you'll be surprised. He is not "continually putting himself in these situations."lion24 wrote:We can all moan and complain about the suspension but Jiminez again put himself in a position he continues to find himself in and unfortunately it will cost him and maybe the Lions the West FinalI have argued in support for all Lions players but I cannot keep "standing" up for a player who is continually putting himself in these situations; I realize none of us have seen the play but it is known that the play was a long way away from anything that was at stake on the field and did not have to happen. I hope whoever fills in for Jiminez can do a good job and hopefully help keep JJ, DD, BP standing and able to help win the game

Thank you for everything you did for OUR Lions Mr.Ackles, we will never forget you...RIP

True enough. But I think they would do whatever they could to expedite an appeal as soon as possible. My main point though is that an appeal would nonetheless create a distraction not just for the Lions but for the CFL itself. Even if it was determined an appeal couldn't be ruled upon until after the Grey Cup was over you can bet the media would keep the burner on that topic turned to high both this week and during Grey Cup week.OrangeShoes99 wrote:The CFL can want, but the fact is they have made their decision. They have no control over an independent arbitrators schedule I would think.

Those playoff bonuses from the league are their playoff game pay. A player's standard contract pays him for the regular season only. Unless a player has successfully negotiated some sort of playoff bonus into his regular contract the only thing he receives for a playoff game is that league bonus.notahomer wrote:I hate doing this but I honestly can't remember where I heard this:
apparently Jimenez will have to forfeit the bonus he gets for making it to the West Final ($3200?). Is this true? I can understand not being paid for the game but why lose the bonus?
As an aside the Lions normally purchase the rights to the WDF from the league. By doing so they receive all gate revenues and in turn are responsible for all expenses that the league would normally absorb including playoff bonuses for both teams, travel costs for the visiting team, wages and travel costs for the game officials etc.

Pretty much the same can be said for this thread.The_Pauser wrote:Lol. But what's the point of reading their threads when most of the time their opinions are pure homeristic propaganda?joesports wrote:Here's what I do at RiderFans.....

I just want the League to release the video and let the fans see what the fuss is all about.
Right now we have a League that has made a ruling without the fans being able to see the evidence. And let's face it in the court of public opinion without seeing the evidence there is absolutely nothing to base an opinion on one way or another.
The only evidence that has been brought forth is an injury to a player. Well, I'm sorry but injuries happen even with "plays deemed" legal by the League (and Riderfans should know this the way they have bemoaned the number of injuries they have had). So that is not a measuring stick to go by. Or else Trey Young of the Calgary Stampeders woudl have been suspended for his hit that took out Buck Pierce and Geroy Simon in the same game. Also Fred Perry would have been suspended for his hit on Dave Dickenson as it resulted in an injury. So the fact that Garguilo is injured cannot play factor into this decision.
So then it turns to the point of if the hit is considered legal. Well, on one side we have Wally Buono saying the hit was legal. We also have the ref saying the hit itself was legal based on the idea Jiminez didn't get flagged for the illegal hit, just for rough play. So the ref and Wally both agreed that the hit itself was a legal one, although Wally has been trying for 2 years to make it illegal.
so what it all boils down to is was the hit before or after the whistle. Here we have Wally saying he believes it was before and we have the ref saying it was after. Simply a case of "he said, she said". So who do you side with? As a fan, how can you side with the officials considering the number of times we have berated them on blown calls? How many times has Ajke ireland gone under the hood to review a play call only to come out and say "nope I was right and made the correct call (AKA inconclusive video replay)" when everyone who watches the game knows he blew it? Do we have to look at the Nowacki non-catch by Glen Johnson for evidence of this inability to make the right call?
So then without a video replay that clearly shows the hit and properly times the sound of the whistle, we still only have the ref's view of the play to go on.
Is it at all surprising that the League, which has rarely done so, sided with the ref?
The irony in all of this is watching Riderfans do a flipflop on the League ruling issues. Case in point:
a) Dave Dickenson - League ruled the hit was "legal" and not deserving of a fine/suspension/penalty. Thus, because the League said it was so it must be correct.
b) Rider players get tossed in a game against Calgary. Riderfans up in arms because there was no evidence of wha they did wrong. League made the wrong call fining the players and even tossing them from the game.
c) League blows their decision to fine Tillman and Austin for merely speaking their minds.
d) League said he did it so he must be guilty, when they fine Wally Buono for simply answering a question posed by a reporter. Even the reporter is questioning this one, as it did not pertain to questioning the refs. But Riderfans once again, because the League deemed it to be so, it must the God's own truth.
e) Now we have the Jiminez suspension. Again, the League rules against Jiminez so he must have done it. Afterall the League wouldn't make a mistake (so say the Riderfans).
So when it goes against the Lions, the League is making the right call and the League cannot be wrong. But when the League rules against the Riders they are wrong and stupid. That is the hypocrisy that taints Riderfans.
If you believe that Jiminez is guilty based on no video evidence, then logically you must believe that refs never get the call wrong. Thus the League should actually do away with video replay as the refs aren't wrong in their calling. Because, like it or not, the only evidence that we know of for this incident, is the POV of the ref that made the call.
Before passing judgement one way or the other, I want to see some more evidence. And based on what I have seen of the refs to this point, excuse me if I don't believe them at first.

If you have been following the CFL like you keep saying yo are, then I can't for life of me figure out HOW you can make this statement?migs wrote: And yes the Lions will infact look desperate if they appeal this decision no matter what Lions fans think.
Anyone that has been following this League even just this year, and particularly with the fervor that you spout about AJ Gass's appeal, knows that the TEAM does not make the appeal. This has been mentioned ad infinitum with regards to suspension, particularly this season.
The decision to appeal is Jiminez's and Jiminez's alone. The Team has no say it. They may tell him what they would prefer he do, but in the end it is up to Jiminez and his lawyers.

Gerry wrote:All I see here and elsewhere is Lion's fans wishing that they could see the hit so that they can judge for themselves and also trying to defend Jiminez as far as they can without having seen the hit.
Other than that, what do we have? Rider fans. Here, there, and everywhere bemoaning the dirty Lions, and giving us advice as to what should be done. Never mind that the play in question was against the Stamps, not the Riders. No Rider was hurt or victimized in any way.
So, why are they so concerned? The health and well-being of the players of the CFL? Or the easiest possible road to an ever elusive Grey Cup? (If you can't figure out which is the right answer, refresh your memory with the outpouring of concern for Dave Dickenson this summer from Rider fans.)
Gerry You have hit the nail squarely on the head . This take it like a man crap is comical . The rules allow an appeal . The appeal allows the player to play until they rule on the appeal. It seems we should make it easier for the Riders to beat us by "taking it like a man ". Why dont the riders fans like MIGS want to beat our best team. I guess they dont think they CAN. Tell you what MIGet brain, I dont know if Jiminez will play or not , but the lions will start thier 3rd string qb to make it eaiser for ya. You know the guy we played because other teams keep knocking our #1 and #2 qbs out with totally leagal hits . Like the one Perry put on DD ,and calgary put on BP. By the way go ahead and voice your displeasure with the truth . Here at lionbackers you can have a say . Quite unlike your fan site .

@ LFITQ:
Yeah, that's the big thing that's been puzzling me. The Ref didn't throw the flag to call an illegal play, just for "rough play", so it was ruled a legal hit on the field, by the officials who saw the whole thing.
But then the Ref says it was a late hit (after the whistle), in which case it should have been flagged as an illegal play. Problem I find is that the officials did NOT call an illegal hit/play, only "rough play", and used their discretionary allowance, to eject a player without having to give a good reason.
So if they have deemed it to be an illegal hit, then show us, through the media, the visual proof.
Or, as someone has already noted, perhaps they felt they had to call for a one game suspension, because of all the media hype, and the urgence of the 'Rider fans (heheh), to "do something". That way they were seen to "do something about it", and knowing he might appeal it, then it can be overturned by the arbitration process, thus alleviating the league of the responsibility.

never saw the play so don't know if it was legal or not. That being said the league is prepared because Jiminez has to serve this this year. not that it is likely but there is a remote possibility that if they allow an appeal and arbitration to take until the offseason, Jiminez may not play another CFL game and as such no suspension would be served. As such i would suspect for the playoffs the timeline for appeal and arbitration is much shorter. Personally I don't care if he is in or not. He was the reason DD was injured in the first place, he missed the block, so if he is in, he can beat, if he isn't someone else can be beat. I just want the league and the CFLPA to get it right during the current season, suspended or not
Do you not see that it seems to concern the Rider fans beyond their boundaries, and that the exact opposite is what the scenario looks like from this side of the fence?Migs wrote: And yes the Lions will infact look desperate if they appeal this decision no matter what Lions fans think.
