Everybody remembers about Terry Fox, but few people remember the man who successfully completed his cross-country run: Steve Fonyo.

:thdn: to both of you.

All Terry Fox did was run half way across the second largest country on earth, 26 miles per day, on one leg, while suffering a relapse of cancer. All he managed to achieve was to unite the country, give Canadians a hero unlike we had ever known, while raising money and awareness in the fight against a disease that has or will touch every single one of us at some point in our lives. Oh, and then there is a little sum of $400M that has been raised in his name to fight cancer since his death.

Yeah, we should all be sick of hearing about one of the greatest Canadians to ever live.

Maybe the two of you weren't born yet, or old enough at the time to realize what Terry Fox did with his Marathon of Hope. Google it... Watch Steve Nash's 30 for 30 on ESPN when it comes on... talk to someone old enough to remember what Terry did for Canada in 1980.

Whether you feel a member of the Fox family should be allowed to honour Terry's memory by lighting the torch is your opinion. But please do not disrespect the man nor his memory.

As for me, I would love to see Betty Fox light the torch, and if she wants to share the task with Rick Hanson that would be doubly cool.

Count me amongst those that reveres the memory of Terry Fox.

Along with Rick Hansen, one of the Canadians I hold in highest regard.

When Terry Fox started his run across Canada I was sceptical. Just another stunt by someone seeking attention, I thought.

Then he had made it to Ontario, I think, when the headline said: "Somewhere in His Magnificent Heart He Knew He was in Trouble." He was ill again. Then I started to read about him. I saw that he was not a publicity seeker. He was a sincere young man on a courageous, amazing mission. The amount of money he started out to raise for cancer research was far exceeded, and continues to this day.

God bless Terry Fox, a Canadian hero for the ages.

So he was part of the group that wiped the Arrow off the face of the earth? Very un-Canadian that was. No thanks.

I'm not convinced it has to be a medal winning athlete, or an athlete at all. Who was the first person to have the idea and push for the Olympics here? Purrhaps they should have the right.

yeah, I would love to give them a couple of rights.

When Campbell and co started cutting back hospital services and so forth in order to pay for these olympics, one thing that happened was the closure of emergency heart care (cant remember the real name for it) at Delta hospital. Anyhow, some guy was taken their with chest pain and had to be sent to vancouver gen. He died on the way. Maybe it should be someone from his family who should light the flaming flame.

A guy who hasn't lived in Canada since he was about 16?

And worse - wait for it - a Boston Bruins fan :puke:
