First of two meetings between the Lions and RedBlacks. Lulay's 1st start since last season. Is Lulay the answer to kick start the offence for the 2nd half of the season. Will Joey Elliott get an opportunity to play against his former team ?
Joey Elliot won't be activated yet from the practice roster scout team, according to the Province article yesterday:
"Ottawa coach Rick Campbell said Elliott hasn’t picked up enough of the offence to be activated, but will be on the roster soon as the Redblacks have no quarterbacking experience behind Henry Burris."
Maybe he will be by the rematch October 11.

Some random thoughts here:
* Is it wise to play Solly if he came back from the 'bye' week and still couldn't practice (until Wednesday)? Would it not be better to rest another week and be ready for a massive game with Winnipeg? Couldn't Jamall Johnson adequately take over his MLB position?
* Same for Andrew Harris. He admitted on the radio yesterday that he's not 100% (ankle). Our running attack was more than fine against the Argos with Logan/Brown. Harris is not able to cut very effectively IMO and that's going to limit his effectiveness and prolong his recovery time.
* Is this not a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" game? Win, and "you were supposed to." Lose and the sky will fall, the ground will crack, and air will be filled with smoke. Nothing less than a blowout (highly unlikely with a rusty quarterback) will appease the masses.
* Speaking of which, it's hard to know what to expect of Travis. No training camp, no preseason. Only limited action in parts of 2 games. Will fans' expectations be too much too soon? Will the game slow down for him? And what about his timing with the receivers? What's the over/under for seeing KG at some point in the game tonight?
Improved 2nd half production is critical to a "W" today. Go Leos!!

Don't worry, we still have another game to play Ottawa for a rinse and repeat expectation... this is exactly how you suggest David, Bighill can fill SolE's position, and JJ fill his, no need to risk SolE at this stage. Seems to me him and Harris are looking more for their own respective stats (which are great), than the big picture. At some point the HC needs to figure this out and think about the team long term.David wrote:Some random thoughts here:

Entertainment value = an all time low
I recognize that Elimimian and Harris are not at 100% but their presence improves the team, even if they're at 90% or slightly less. The Lions were 10-5 last year with Elimimian in the middle and 1-3 without him, including their playoff loss in Regina. Their only victory was the annual automatic home win against Montreal. The loss of Elimimian from the lineup this year would cause a chain reaction through the roster, according to LU:David wrote:Some random thoughts here:

Jamall Johnson is not an option and has been a non-factor on defence since being reacquired this year. And he has never been a regular middle linebacker, in B.C. or Hamilton. This year he has just 4 defensive tackles and 1 pass knockdown in 9 games. He ranks fourth on the team with 8 special teams tackles but he had no stats in 2 games, on defence or special teams. If Elimimian is placed on the onegame injured list, rookie Alex Hoffman-Ellis would be activated and used both on special teams and in defensive packages with non-import Jason Arakgi. Adam Bighill would take Elimimian's starting spot in the middle of the defence.
Problem is Phil, our HC has a rather tin ear when it comes to personnel decisions - whom to deploy, when, and for what reason.Rammer wrote:... this is exactly how you suggest David, Bighill can fill SolE's position, and JJ fill his, no need to risk SolE at this stage. Stating the obvious but this is one of those "holding serve" games against an inferior East team. IMHO absolute must wins this week and next to make the playoffs. No way can the Lions afford to go 0-4 against the Western teams at home and still finish in the top 4.

First play and an undisciplined penalty against Jamal Johnson for that extra hit.
Jamall Johnson called for UR on the opening kickoff sets Burris & co up on their own 50 to start.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
Nice tackle from Eli to stall Ott's opening drive.

Ott's Brett Maher opens the scoring with a 35yd FG, 3-0.
