Relax, TL is a non-starter for the CC role. Even if he weren't a homer it wouldn't matter because he hasn't followed the Lions closely enough in ages and wouldn't have a recent enough store of knowledge of the team (or the rules and how they've changed in the last decade) that a CC needs to draw on in his analysis.
Maybe this isn't the best example, but if he saw Bazzie making a sack he'd be more likely to compare him to Quick Parker, who half the listening audience probably never saw play, before someone like... say, Brent Johnson or Cam Wake...
i.e., a more recent player with whom he wouldn't be as familiar, but whose name wouldn't be so alienating to hear for younger listeners.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
