Some observations ...

Hunter Steward shows good lateral mobility, a key for a tackle. He seems like a smart player. The coaching staff obviously believes in him. Very solid performance by our O Line.

Nice game prep by Khari Jones. Some wonderful pitch running plays. Giants blocking out the sun around the corner. Including Lumbala laying waste to the D on the corner. Those little Alouettes ("gentille Alouette") were not liking those toss sweeps. LOL

Keven Glenn showing his quick strike ability when given a good game plan of pass protection. 4 sacks but not surprising when a team goes all in as do the Alouettes. Just make them pay. And run the dayum ball down their throats. Which we did.

Defensively very solid. Khreem Smith. Eric Taylor. Bazzi showed some speed and pursuit, credited with two sacks. Didn't notice Westerman, but glad to hear he played well.

Bighill and Solo as usual.

Kudos to Mark Washington for a very good game plan. Pressured Troy Smith into shutdown mode.

Ricky Schmitt pounds the kickoff down to the 5 yard line at times. When is the last time we saw that? Ummm ... Never.

I liked what I saw from Cameron Thorn last year at camp. Still looking good. Great late draft pick.

Well done, coaches. Including Mike Benevides.

Some great stats there including the QB - Kevin Glenn.

Arceneaux's 3 TDs and the clip on TSN to end their show should be their next marketing piece.

DEF played great.

Something to build on but also to keep in perspective - that Als QB was terrible.

Great game guys, Montreal come to our house yapping, 41 to 5 says it all.( and we gave them 2 points ). This was a game the Leo's needed, not just to win , but to dominatke and show that our house is no place you want to play. It was the play of our D that made them look so sick shut down shut down wright aross the board . We have given up 2 touch downs in three games, can't ask fore mutch more. The offence is getting better an better , the Oline did a heck of a job on both run and pass blocking,Glen is looking better and better each game ,HARRIS AND LOGAN THE DYNAMIC DOU, MANNY thee td's , CT GORE JACKSON all made key catches to extend drives and had good games . The team is getting better and better each week.Next week it's the Blue Bumpers and after this game I am feeling a lot better about it. WILLY WONKA won three games against Eastern teams , big deal . Last week he was shown fore what he is a first year starter with a way to go yet . Our D will give him all he can handle and more. With an iproving O line and the weapons we have the Bumpers could be in fore a long night .

For me the best thing about this game is the Lions obviously had an offensive game plan that was vastly different from last week. Harris still got 150 all purpose yards, but this was not the Andrew Harris show we saw against the Riders. Jones called another great game. I would hate to be a DC trying to come up with game plan to face the BC Lions right now.

First, kudos to Mark Washington for coming up with a game plan that he should have for the 1st two weeks of the season...anyways, it was a good plan and executed well...no Mitchell and Westerman did the job...we do not want to lost this young man next season...some people here are going to have to rethink their position on Bazzi...not bad at all...great game by the LBs and how about Torri Williams...but hey, we don't need him, we have LaRose...

Offensively, before everyone starts laying out the accolades to Khari Jones, his game plan was not near as conservative as we thought it might, and probably should have been...he spent a lot of time in the spread and left the OLine on their own a LOT during the game...Glenn got sacked a few times, had a lot of pressure, but kudos not to Coach Jones, kudos to that young OLine...what an effort by those boys...and how about Hunter Steward...he, Fabian and Norman were all great...and the new import tackle got a lot of reps at RT to boot. But really for me, more than anything else, even over Harris and Arceneaux, was that OLine and Hunter Steward...that was a hell of a performance because Jones didn't give him a lot of help. The future for this group is unknown, but the skies are the limit!!! 2 thumbs way up for the OLine!!!

Harris IS, as Joe says, the best back in the league right now...what a player...very good effort from Logan...big effort from Manny...and really, Kevin Glenn wasn't at this best IMO, but he started to trust his WRs and they started to help him...2 of Manny's 3 TDs could easily have been INTs if not for Manny's size and effort...so we will see where we go from here...big game versus WIN, a game we must win at home...it will tell us a lot more about where this 2-2 team really is...but tonight I am basking in the knowledge that we have a good defence (with a young coach starting to show signs) and the makings of a GREAT Canadian Offensive Line...

And I almost forgot, our S Ts even got a blocked punt...great play by Khreem Smith...things are looking up!!!

Only thing worse than the Als this evening was our in-stadium game clock. Died partway through Q3, they got it back a few mins later, but then it was done for the night again before Q3 ended. Not sure if TSN was able to keep a working game clock onscreen during the broadcast. Down, distance and LOS stat was spotty at times starting around then, too.

And no live rush/pass stats on the ribbon but I suppose it prob would have died with the game clock anyway.

All three QBs were in on TDs tonight. Glenn and Beck threw for two each while Partridge lugged one in on short yardage.

Great to see the 1994 championship team honoured at halftime in this 20th anniversary year of the first int'l GC. Would have been nice if more players could have appeared in person, but the logistics of gathering — under one roof on one of nine available dates — a group of 40+ people who by now are likely scattered all over the continent probably precluded this. Lui's videoboard message was a nice touch and considering his health issues I thought he looked pretty good.

A lot of flags (21 for 175 total yards) again tonight in keeping with the league-wide narrative so far this season. Lions took the, er.... Lions' share with 14/130. Maybe they were channeling Dave Ritchie who was in the building for the halftime ceremony.

Did McGarva mess up his knee again? Two years in a row would be a tough break. Eerily enough, it was also the 4th game last season that did him in.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Two things jump out at me in this game, the play of Williams, he has to be put on the field more, he just makes plays. Secondly, was this a game that Cox showed up at? He was as quiet as I have ever seen him in a game, that is all on the Lions 'executing' the gameplan to a tee.

Hunter Steward acquitted himself quite well for his first pro start. He made some mistakes but that is to be expected. He has much better foot speed than Ryan Cave.

VANCOUVER – Emmanuel Arceneaux is back.

After missing parts of training camp and the first few weeks of the season, the Lions’ go-to receiver was nothing short of a force, hauling in three touchdown passes in a dominant 41-5 BC win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Arceneaux finished the day with 8 receptions for 145 yards . He, along with a stout BC defence helped avenge a Week 2 loss to the Als.

In fact BC’s defence was so good, Troy Smith simply did not have an answer – finishing just 5 of 17 for 45 yards and one interception.

For a pair of teams that only meet twice a year, they have certainly built up a rivalry in short order in 2014. A Week 2 meeting saw the Alouettes hand the Lions a one-sided 24-9 loss which led to some belief that Montreal had run up the score.

The fireworks started early – in fact before warm-ups even began. With players going through their early-out routines and stretches, an argument broke out between Alouettes DB Mike Edem and Lions DL Khreem Smith. The two jawed back-and-fourth before it appeared that Smith attempted to throw a punch just prior to the two being separated.

With Travis Lulay still on the shelf until Week 7, Kevin Glenn made the start again under centre and got a personal accolade out of the way early. On the second play from scrimmage, Glenn completed a 14-yard pass to Courtney Taylor, who sat down underneath the Als coverage. The gain put Glenn up over 40,000 yards passing on a career which has spanned 14 years.

Following Taylor’s reception, Glenn handed off to Andrew Harris who powered down the sidelines, breaking a tackle and setting up a 30-yard Paul McCallum field goal to open up the scoring.

Harris, who was relatively quiet when the season began, carried the Lions last week in their win over Saskatchewan to the tune of 200+ yards from scrimmage.

Harris finished with another impressive stat line with over 140 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.

After the Leos forced Alouettes Smith to a two-and-out, Glenn went back to work, finding Taylor, Ernest Jackson and Shawn Gore before looking deep for Arceneaux. The Lions’ big-play receiver hauled in a tough catch and stepped into the endzone for a 35-yard touchdown. Arcenueax’s first major of the year gave the Lions a quick 10-0 lead.

With all the momentum on BC’s side, the Als promptly responded with a solid ground attack. Running back Brandon Whitaker took a pair of handoffs for a combined 41 yards to help set up a 42-yard Sean Whyte field goal.

While Glenn put up points early, the story of the first quarter was the Lions defence which shutout Smith in the passing game. At the end of the quarter the Lions held a 109-0 advantage in passing yards.

Both defences tightened up for some time in the second quarter before Glenn led a drive which included completions of 24,15,12 and another 15 yards to a host of receivers to put McCallum in position to hit a chip shot 16-yard field goal. The three-pointer gave the Leos a 13-3 lead with 3:48 left in the half.

With the Lions defence holding Smith in check, it was a pair of hulking defensive lineman that generated the game’s next big play. While playing on punt return, Khreem Smith got his hand on a Sean Whyte punt, his block landing into the hands of Eric Taylor who rumbled down to the Montreal 29 yard line.

A trio of completions by Glenn led to a 1-yard touchdown plunge by QB Travis Partridge to extend the lead to 20-3 with 1:44 left in the half.

As the team’s broke for halftime, Smith continued to look for answers in the passing game, going just 2 of 10 for 9 yards in the half. Despite only posting three points, the bright spot for the Als was on the ground where Whitaker generated 50 yards on 7 carries.

Compounding issues for the Alouettes was the loss of star receiver SJ Green who left in the first quarter with an injury.

As the third quarter got underway, Glenn looked to his no. 1 receiver yet again to put the game out of reach. Facing a third and very long after taking a pair of penalties, Arceneaux went up and snagged a 35-yard pass for a first down. Glenn then rifled one into Arceneaux for 10 yards before the two capped off a 9-play 80 yard possession.

With a comfortable lead, the only area of concern for the Leos was Glenn who left the game – perhaps in precaution – with a strained rhomboid muscle.

He finished with 301 yards and 2 touchdowns on 23 of 31 passing.

John Beck entered at quarterback with 3:47 remaining in the third quarter but that didn’t slow down the potent BC attack led by their stud receiver. Beck marched the Lions down into Montreal territory and hit Arceneaux on a post route for his third touchdown of the game, this one from 27-yards out to give BC a commanding 34-3 lead.

Meanwhile, the Lions chased Troy Smith out of the game in the fourth quarter after he was shut down by an inspired BC defence.

The exclamation point on Smith’s day was an interception thrown into the waiting hands of DB Ryan Phillips who returned it deep into Alouettes territory. The Lions refused to take their foot off the gas following the turnover, allowing Harris to take a screen pass 13 yards for a touchdown.

The score with 13:30 left, put the Leos up 41-3.

The Alouettes earned a safety as Marsh and Partridge closed out the games for their respective teams.

Montreal now heads to their first bye week of the year as the Lions stay home to host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers next Friday night.
