Surrey, BC. -- The BC Lions Football Club has confirmed that new quarterback sensation Travis Lulay has communicated to the club that he will not be returning to the CFL for the upcoming season and that he is in fact, retiring and taking a management position within the family business. Rumours of Lulay's departure first began to circulate on the popular social media site Twitter late Saturday. Phone calls to the club Sunday confirmed what the rumours were reporting. The Lions expect to call a news conference later in the day to discuss the departure and what it will mean for the club in the upcoming year. The timing could not have been worse for the LIons who recently released their longtime backup quarterback, Jarious Jackson now with the Toronto Argonauts. The sudden departure of Lulay leaves the team with a gaping hole at the position with a number of inexperienced candidates to vie for the position. An unidentified spokesperson for the team is quoted as saying "We are extremely disappointed in the news that Travis will not be returning to the club next season but we also understand the importance of family to our players. The BC Lions are extremely grateful to Travis for his contributions to the team which included an incredible trip to the Grey Cup and winning the top prize last season. We wish him the very best". The Lions will likely begin a search for some experienced options for the position to either compete for the starter role or provide some help as a backup. In an off season which has seen significant activity in regards to quarterbacking with Jason Maas and Jarious Jackson going to the Agro's, Henry Burris signing with the Tigercats, Steven Jyles to the Eskimoes and Kevin Glenn to the Stampeders, it remains to be seen what QB talent remains available to the Lions at this point. Can anyone say Casey Printers take 3? Regardless of how the situation is addressed, there is no doubt that this is not the way rookie head coach Mike Benevides wants to start out his new job. It will certainly test his mettle in the days and weeks to follow. For a team that was an early favourite to repeat next season, the landscape has changed entirely.

Any buyers?

Hey, I've got a bridge I can sell you. You can charge a toll fee to anyone that wants to cross it. It runs from West Vancouver to Stanley Park.

(Strange things do happen. Tim Tebow is liable to retire any year to pursue missionary work.)

Yes and yes, but sometimes it takes awhile to come up with a fishing line.

To....ummm.....avoid any confusion, that would be the other kind of missionary.

And good work to Sir Purrcival. You had me going for about 3 or 4 seconds 'til my mind tuned into the date.

You had me right through the whole post, SP. It was a major "oh, crap" moment. Especially the part about Printers. Good one.

Well I expect there would be a "position" for Tim Tebow in "missionary" work. And which kind of missionary work is that? Well not the horizontal kind, for sure. Ha ha ...

I actually had some chuckles out of this thread. Thanks, Sir P.

Ya never know, as with the Tebow thing ... April Fool's jokes need to have just a hint of possibility.

Didn't some athlete just retire to the family business? Seems to ring a bell.

(Edited ... Yes, our own Jamall Lee retired to the family business.)

I remember well the days of "made you look". Probably some kind of freudian stage I never resolved. Above all, humour was the intent so if anyone got a bit of a start and had a chuckle, all is fine in the universe.

There was a small story in yesterdays Province that I immediately assummed was an April Fools story. Some young man playing hockey over in Europe that has a 168 mph slapshot. I immediately thought to myself...yah right. I think my favourite of all time was the tv broadcast where they showed the trees that are used to harvest spaghetti ( ) had been afflicted with some type of virus and were dying off. Many people were very concerned about how their spaghetti/meatballs dinners would be if the 'spaghetti trees' were wiped out.......
