Dave Dickenson is ready to resume playing in the Canadian Football League and the Toronto Argonauts have made him an offer, reports CKNW in Vancouver.

According to the station, the Argonauts made a formal offer on Monday morning.

The free-agent quarterback admitted to CKNW that he has several offers on the table from CFL clubs and plans to make a decision soon but stopped short of naming specific teams.

CKNW added that Dickenson was in Toronto last week and met with a concussion specialist and was given the okay to keep playing and that he met with the Argonauts during the trip.

The radio station also reported that the B.C. Lions will not be in the mix to sign Dickenson because they are set to announce to a new contract for quarterback Jarious Jackson in the near future.

That is the kicker to DD signing in TO, once JJ is signed with the Lions, he knows the door is closed on that portion of his career. Best of luck DD, I would hate to see a repeat scenario of when DA left the Lions for the Argos happen though.

I'm gonna be the Negative Nelly but this news, coupled with the Shivers announcement does not instill me with great amounts of hope for the season. We'll see.... :sigh:

Shivers signing is solid, remember he was the Scout for Wally in the Stampeder organization when he unearthed a solid cast of players for the 90's.

Yeah, but that was then...wouldn't the Lions be better served by a younger scout with more of a long term future? Hiring an almost 70 year old man to be your talent scout seems to be somewhat of a stopgap measure, in my opinion. We'll see what he can come up with. I'll keep an open mind, but I'm not overly optimistic.

Could this be the end of Damon Allen ?

Could be the second time DA gets booted by DD. Looks like more lazy GM'ing by Adam Rita though. He's been trying to clear up the mess about his comments about DA stunting the Argos development yet DD is going to do the exact same thing. I guess though that if you have a 44 year old injury prone QB, then a 34 year old injury prone QB sounds like an up and coming prospect!

Those who don't learn from history are condemned to repeat it, Adam Rita :wag:

I guess Dave Dickenson will never be on Damon Allen's Christmas card list.

Damon will be looking grumpier than usual now. Chased out of town twice by Huckleberry Finn.

It might put Damon in mind of another kind of contract now. With the way the crime scene is going now in Vancouver, there would be no trouble finding the hit man.
The free-agent quarterback admitted to CKNW that he has several offers on the table from CFL clubs ...
I have some doubts that there are "several" offers on the table.

If Dave D does sign in Toronto, it will be interesting to see if he still has it. He is older now, of course, and the CFL defenses seem to have adjusted to his preferred style of passing game (crossing patterns, short routes, spread offense, hang on to the ball - take the sack rather than risk the interception, not throw the ball away, etc.). Even before he was injured in the last couple of years, he seemed to have lost some of his effectiveness. We will see ...

Good news if Jarious is about to re-up with the Lions.

I've got no troubles seeing Roy Shivers work with Wally again in scouting and recruiting. I don't really think age is a factor in a scout's ability to evaluate talent. For the top personnel guys, it is more a question of do they want to keep on working. Roy is right up there with O'B in terms of his success in finding CFL talent. Roy's problems came when he could not set the right citizenship tone for a team as a GM, something Tillman and Austin obviously fixed in Regina.

Never mind that-can you imagine 3rd Down's reaction?

I think that's what I'm most worried about.

I would not suprised if the Argos sign DD. Damon should have retired after the 2004 GC win. The only other team I think is in the running for DD is Winnipeg. Good luck to Dave and I hope he can make it without another concussion for his family's sake.

Good luck to Dave he served us pretty well. Hope he considers his longterm health ahead of a few more years of playing though. If he goes to TO he might just end up staying in the game too long like DA

I would think that Sask and Cal are the other teams with offers, but probably for the No. 2 or 3. jobs. Winnipeg has not tendered an offer yet. With the Argos, DD has the best shot at being a starter, with only the "hit and miss" Bishop ahead of him on the depth chart.

I would have preferred to see DD retire, for his health's sake. But, apparently he's got the green light from the specialists who should know, so good luck to DD in the future! It will kinda burn seeing him in Argo colours, though. :sigh:

as long as jj signs then i am fine with dd gone.but if not i would like him for insurance as long as buck is the clear cut no.1.i love buck but he seems to be as brittle as dd at times.

I would be incredibly surprised if DD signed anywhere but Calgary.

IMHO, the offer from any other team would have to be SUBSTANTIALLY better in order to justify the move.

IMHO, DD used TO as a bargaining tool to squeeze a little more out of Calgary.
