Re: COVID-19 : How it could impact Lions/CFL

I wonder what happens to player and coach contracts under the present state of affairs. What of the guys signed for 2020 already? And I guess the television contract with the CFL goes away too or perhaps is pro-rated for the length of the season, assuming that there will be one (which looks less and...

Re: XFL 2020 season (topic updated)

Well, with the coronavirus pandemic expanding, the XFL's 2020 season is now officially over. The last word is that they will be back in 2021.

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

Consensus on SF was that they went off their strengths and bailed on their game plan and did so unwisely leaving the door open to the big Chiefs comeback. Yes, in the 4th quarter, they went away from their ground game that had been doing so well earlier in the game for a series of bad pass plays. P...

Re: Day 1 of the new XFL today (saturday)

All four of this weekend's XFL games drew between 17,000 and 18,000 fans. I don't know how this fits with the league's business plan. I guess more depends on the strength of their TV contract. By the way, perhaps the mods could transfer this thread over to the "All Sports" forum. Just like...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

The Super Bowl game suggested to me that the 49ers may not have an elite QB in Jimmy Garoppolo. He strikes me as a competent player--maybe best seen as a game manager, rather than game winner. I think the most telling sign was that deep pass to Emmanuel Sanders late in the 4th quarter when Garoppolo...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

I was somewhat surprised that Patrick Mahomes was still selected as MVP with his two interceptions. I felt that perhaps Damien Williams with his two late touchdowns may have been appropriate. Or maybe Tyreek Hill or Travis Kelce with their several catch receptions. I agree, Robbie, but the Super Bo...

Super Bowl LIV Prediction

Super Bowl LIV Prediction I'm usually a little reluctant to get into the prediction game, but I've been thinking this week about the upcoming Super Bowl and have been looking at the various predictions out there. The current odds stand at Chiefs by 1.5—much closer than we’ve seen in past SBs.. Acco...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

A Packers-Chiefs Super Bowl would have been a fitting coda to the 100th NFL season, since those two teams played each other in Super Bowl 1 in 1967. But it wasn't to be. If the 49ers take Super Bowl LIV (54), that would be their 6th SB victory, tying them with the Steelers and Patriots for the most ...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

I wasn't too surprised to see the Chiefs beat the Titans, but sure was surprised to see the 49ers put such a complete beat-down on the Packers. It really wasn't as close as the 37-20 score would indicate. I hope that Seahawks' GM John Schneider and HC Pete Carroll took notice of what a good physical...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

My mantra now, going into the finals is "anyone but the Packers". I guess we'll have disagree on this one, Gridiron Ernie! For the early part of my career as an NFL fan until the Seahawks joined the league in 1976, the Packers were my fave team. So at this point, they're my 2nd fav...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

Oh, I meant to mention... I'm cheering on the Titans not only because they're a surprise and obviously underdogs, but also very much because former BC Lion great -- Cam Wake is on their roster. Sad to say he's currently injured, but he no doubt made his contribution throughout the earlier part of t...

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

A tough end to the 2019 season for the Seahawks yesterday. They came close despite having lost so many starters. It was a typical game for the 'Hawks--lousy first half with a come-from-behind second half, but this time they ran out of time. With so many starters out with injuries, I was surprised th...

Could he be the needed No. 2 receiver behind Pro Bowler Davante Adams in Green Bay?

Re: 2019-20 NFL Season Thread

A good road win for the Seahawks. As usual for the 2019 Seahawks, another nail-biter. Surprisingly (or maybe not with the O-line injuries), the ground game was non-existent, with Marshawn Lynch picking up 7 yards on 6 carries and Travis Homer getting 12 yards on 11 carries. Yikes! Russell Wilson hel...
