Re: Lions at Argos July 3, 2023

On Monday Adams reminded me of Danny McManus in his Lions tenure. D-Mac could look like the best QB in the CFL and the worst all in the same game. He'd make a bunch of great plays then come up with an inexcusable brain fart. Danny Mac was an entirely different type of QB. He had the single fastest ...

Re: Lions at Argos July 3, 2023

I would like to see Cottoy used more often too; he can release like a tight end and be open as an outlet for VA. But you're right. VA (Maksymic?) favors the intermediate, deep passing plays over the middle that aren't always going to work against good defenses. VA's strength as a QB is generally wh...

Re: Lions at Argos July 3, 2023

So having seen it in person (yikes) I noticed a couple of things. First, let me mention the good. I really, really, really enjoy watching Cottoy play. He's a lot of fun whether he's out wide, run blocking, serving as a tight end or just generally being moved around the field. And watching how he was...

Re: Antonio Williams gone

I wonder if Williams was reluctant to go on the practice roster. Maybe asked for his release? Seemed like a good guy when I heard him interviewed. But NFL pedigree, I can't say I would be surprised if he did ask for his release. DH  The mindset of "why sit on a CFL practice roster when I...

Re: CFL Week 3

Chris Jones is a gong show. Some guys can occasionally will themselves and their teams all the way over the championship hump but they aren't program builders and they wear out their welcome quickly. Add offensive line to Calgyra's problems. I can't even mention how many times Riders defenders were ...

As an aside, if you watch the 8 plus minute game highlight summary, be sure to look out for the dejected mascot and fan at about the 5:54 mark. Hilarious!

Re: Lions at Bombers June 22, 2023

Three things stood out that others touch on that were inarguably keys to not just winning a tight game, but decisively defeating the Bombers: 1. Ryan Phillip's defense both in tactics against the former vaunted OL of the Bombers but every player on the field for the entire 60 min. This is the best ...

Re: Home opener: Lions vs. Elks June 17, 2023

Elks 3 man D line allowed them to go a lot with zone coverage which limited Lions long pass game, but it sure allowed a lot of 1st down 5-6 yard runs, making 2nd and short a lot easier to convert to a 1st down. Elks playing 4 D linemen on 1st down might have been a better strategy. Ah yes. This rig...

So you sign Lemon.
Then you cut Lemon to sign Kongbo.
Then you trade Kongbo.

Someone help me out here.

Re: Training camp 2023

Riley Pickett, who appears to have won the long-snapping role by default, slid one field-goal snap along the ground but Flintoft, who holds for both placekickers, scooped it up cleanly.
This is not encouraging and bears watching as we get into the regular season.

Re: Benny back as Special Teams coach

Eh, I know his successor was demonstrably worse, and I too didn't think much at all of Yanowsky either, but I don't recall Benny being all that great when he had that job the first time around. I'd search this site for specific examples, actually, but I'm lazy. That said, I like him and I root for h...

Re: CFL Plus/Preseason Live

Last year, every game was available on ESPN+, both live and as a replay. Only about half the games were on ESPN+. The rest were on either ESPN2 or ESPNEWS, which are cable channels. For me the new system is much more convenient and significantly cheaper, requiring only a CBS Sports subscription for...

Re: Benny back as Special Teams coach

Not Benny's area of expertise, as I recall, though he was better than our successor.

That said, all the best that things come into a better place for Don.

CFL Plus/Preseason Live

Great news about Pre Season games streaming live on CFL Preason Live. Now, I'm not the most tech savvy guy, but where do you sign up? I see the directions (including providing your email) but I can't find a link to enter. Do you have to wait until the game starts? Some league decisions are so stupi...

Alas. If only Joe could have hit Angelo Mosca harder.

Willie Fleming is still alive and lives here in the Cleveland area.
