Re: Lions' receivers

I think Wieneke might be a lot like me playing hockey. I always said I'd never lose a step because I never had a step to begin with to lose. When I left the island to go to PG I told my buddies they'd have to pick up the pace because with me gone our league just got faster. Jake never was fas...

Re: Lions' receivers

Interesting perspective on Wieneke from the typically fickle Rider Nation. He went from great free agent signing in Feb to why is he always a healthy scratch in October to bad signing and waste when released after the season. Consensus from one of the most knowledgeable denizens at RF was that he ha...

Re: Lions' receivers

I hate to keep saying it but one good guy to replace Lucky would be Lucky. He is still going to be fast but he needs to be used. I don't get where Terry Williams is a better roster option especially with Lawrence Woods signed. Jake Harty is 33 as far as being too old goes. Lucky at $145,000 ish see...

Re: Rourke now a NE Patriot

The only upsides here it seems are: 1. the bridge QB hasn't had a stellar career yet. 2. IIRC isn't Rourke able to make over US$900,000 if hangs in. As a bridge QB the question re: Brissett is how long will the bridge be? It could be 3 games, 8 games or no games if they feel their soon-to-be-prized...

Re: Lions' receivers

Dru Brown reported as $286,000 with $137,500 up front is another contract that seems a little too good to be true. Sounds like they expect Nathan Rourke performance levels. Also interesting that Ottawa continues to bring in QB's like Matt McKay. Just because a team has a certain number of QBs on th...

Re: Lions' receivers

McInnis didn't crack the top 20 receiver salaries list in 2023, nor did Cottoy. Behar came in at #20 with $137K hard money, $157K max. Of the 20 who were listed #17 Dillon Mitchell had the lowest max value at $150K with $143K hard money. The 5 Canadians on the list were: #4 Gittens - $200K hard, $20...

Re: Lions' receivers

I have yet to come across any information on the contracts for Hollins, Cottoy or Hatcher beyond the lengths of the contracts. One thing I've learned in the past two years is that the rumoured salaries usually turn out to be exaggerated once things are clarified with the salary disclosure reports th...

Re: Lions' receivers

I think the reality of the salary cap with 6 receivers on a roster, at least one and maybe two of the 6 need to be on their 1st contract at a low price minimum $$. In other words Rhymes and Lucky were deemed too expensive. The SMS is really a 46 piece jig saw puzzle with some extra pieces aka the P...

Re: Lions' receivers

Cottoy was already at 807 last year and McInnis at 690. I fully expect both to improve on those numbers primarily because they will be in more prominent roles. They ranked 4th and 5th in targets just ahead of Rhymes who missed 8 games. Also I think the gloves might be off for Cottoy as they start us...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents

Would it also be naive to think BC Lions will figure out schemes to run more successfully more often? Hmmm. Not sure. The jury is out on that one as I've seen coaches who have the plays but simply don't call them as their QB wants to pass only. One thing about Vernon Adams is how time and again he ...

So this confirms it’s Rourke and Zappe battling out for #3?

Via Ian Rapoport:
Source: The #Patriots have agreed to terms with QB Jacoby Brissett, who gets $8M on a 1-year deal.
Heard that rumour yesterday. That would certainly do it.

Re: Rourke now a NE Patriot

The way I look at it, with Mac Jones gone that's one less QB that Rourke has ahead of him on the depth chart. For sure the Pats draft a QB but not for sure they sign a veteran QB. So perhaps 1st round drafted QB starts and Zappe and Rourke battle it out for backup QB. It's not a matter of IF NE dra...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents

It'd be naive in the extreme to think that the Bombers bringing back Chris Streveler are relegating him to just short yardage and aren't thinking creatively on how to use his talents. I think the Bombers offense with Buck Pierce at the helm has taken their playbook every year since Lapo and added o...

Re: Rourke now a NE Patriot

have to wait to see who NE brings in as a veteran backup. I think Zappe also is in a bit of a tight spot, not necessarily performance-wise but perhaps in terms of asset management. He may need to beat out the incoming vet to secure a spot.. One thing we do know is NFL teams don't like to carry 3 QBs...

Re: Lions' receivers

3000 yards between Hollins, Cottoy, and McInnis would be huge which still leaves 1800 for the others to get V.A. to 4800 yds which is about where I have him slotted in. Still plenty of time and there will be training camp cuts but I think they add one more receiver of note. As is losing Hollins to ...
