Re: Commissioners Office
Good reminder about Larry Smith. Wasn't he the one who started the US expansion phase? I seem to remember desperate times back then as well. He may have also been the guy to bring Pezim and Ornest in to rescue the league. Also a few referees out there that are ex players so some do end up working fo...

Re: Commissioners Office
Going over the CFL staff directory list and other than Ambrosie do not recognize one name as that of a former player. Seems odd given so many of the players have a university education to go along with the passion for the game. Acknowledge that many do continue on with individual teams and media bro...

Re: Mike Reilly, Lemar Durant restructure contracts
Cap numbers are etched in stone in the CBA. Other than when bigger bumps are negotiated into a Year 1 of a new CBA since its inception the SMS always went up $50K every year while min player salary would go up $1K per year. I couldn't find anything to back up my claim although I did look. Lions sig...

Re: Mike Reilly, Lemar Durant restructure contracts
One thing about all the restructuring going on is that it was well after the fact in some cases when the final cap number was finalized. I believe it was generally anticipated to be higher than it ended up being. I could be wrong. Still wondering about whatever they called targeting the low end of t...

Re: Mike Reilly, Lemar Durant restructure contracts
Waiting somewhat anxiously on Burnham re-signing and Sukh Chungh agreeing to restructure his $250,000 per season deal. That has to be coming right? John Hodge story last week about Ryan Rigmaiden almost landing Burnham for Winnipeg in 2019. Probably cost the Lions a bit then. It's never been clear ...

Re: why is CFL interest so tepid in toronto?
Good post Hambone. Let it never be said that you are not thorough. or.... the Argos hang on to Collaros for the 4th rounder and he is an Argo. Seems that could have turned out good for them as well. Either way it had to be Murphy that saw enough to swing the deal and it turned out Collaros was more ...

Re: why is CFL interest so tepid in toronto?
Not disrespecting Pinball regarding his position as GM. I see him as more of a promoter of the organization rather than the builder of the team. He will be good for the team though and they already had Bill Manning as president John Murphy brings a lot of experience and an under rated track record a...

Re: why is CFL interest so tepid in toronto?
They may be on track now with ownership but they have struggled with continuity at that position since the early 90's. I copied one of Paul Woods Argofans posts on the topic: That many ownership changes had to have a negative impact on the fan base and football operations. Without looking I believe ...

Re: Mike Reilly, Lemar Durant restructure contracts
Hope it wasn't one of my "Claybrooks was a good guy" posts that got the site shut down. Sorry if it was. Very curious if Lemar Durant was given some kind of guarantee for the second year of his renegotiated contract. Most likely the choice was reneg or be cut for this year. Even the $175,0...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency
I think Sask with Jason Maas is a strong contender as much as I dislike saying so. Elimimian would be a loss to that defence if he were to go. Some players will have moved on already so who knows who will even be back. Anyone remember John White when he first returned with Hamilton and had the ten e...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency
As far as Jordan Williams starting right away at MLB - maybe; outstanding athlete but a lot to learn at the pro level, plus the Canadian game; Herdman might be a better choice with his experience now, plus demonstrated nose for the ball; but that's what real TC competition should prove; Herdman at ...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency
SolE is or was still good. He was solid with the Riders but not the dominant MLB he was in BC. Also by the start of the 2021 season 4 years will have passed since his last truly dominant season. While he'd come much cheaper than what he cost prior to going to Regina he still won't come cheap. As fo...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency
Curious if a new precedent has been set with Mike Reilly and his guaranteed contract since player contracts are not guaranteed. I understand a special clause was used for the purpose but at the same time he was a player that had a guaranteed contract. I still think honoring contracts is a minimum sh...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency
If they pay Lamar Durant $200,000 as per looney cap, what do they need to pay Burnham to keep him happy?

Re: 2021 CFL free agency
And with teams reportedly being urged to spend to the salary cap floor rather than the ceiling Sounds like collusion on a broad scale and unlikely imo to attract more fans unless there is a plan to reduce the ticket prices along with the player salaries. I can see Winnipeg using the soccer team pay...
