Re: 2020 CFL draft

Liegghio is arguably, IMO, one of the best dual kicker prospects to be up in a CFL draft in a long, long time; doubt he is around still at #23, but maybe. Dequoy or Bennett might be outstanding picks IMO - both potential impact players on D and maybe right away; Dequoy (6-2, 200 range, with a 4.35 h...

Re: BC Lions Free Agents Signings & Signings around the CFL

Ladler is a real solid D player and a great signing and hopefully he can regain his CFL best form.

Ladler at SAM, Konar at Will & Herdman at MLB - might be a very solid LB crew.

Re: BC Lions Free Agents Signings & Signings around the CFL

Rhymes had a thousand yard season and made some big catches for Ottawa, but had some hands problems and made some gaffs, and a weak catch to target ratio ; Holley was as he played with the Riders - ultra meh with drops issues. Still, could see both these guys making Lions starter receivers - CFL ex...

Re: BC Lions Free Agents Signings & Signings around the CFL

Wow. So this is Rick Campbell bringing in guys he knows. Both good receivers. Three nationals, not so likely all of a sudden. Hopefully they let them duke it out and run with the one that gets it done. Competition is a good thing. Maybe Ottawa signs Derel Walker. That would put a smile on Nick Arbu...

Re: Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

why wouldn't you take a NFL player beyond say the 2nd round? choose your round, but i think they should be draftable. has any canadian actually done the "play the CFL after a reasonable NFL career"? just seems like you've made so much money, you have roots in some american city, you proba...

Re: Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

Good points and details, Dale, but i was throwing in the older names in a general group of CFL draft / NFL flight risk types. Drafting NCAA guys a year earlier in CFL draft past presented some unknowns for GMs who would often roll the dice (player could also have had a career ending injury as a Seni...

Re: BC Lions Free Agents Signings & Signings around the CFL

Lions sign JR Tavai. That's a very good signing for our D-line. Tavai was IMO about the best young D player the RedBlacks have came up with in the past few years (and they've used tons of new import players on D - a lot of them pretty average to mediocre IMO); Tavai has a motor and is a good pass r...

Re: Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

Hambone - ALL CFL teams passed on Tyrone Crawford when he was the #1 rated prospect in the CFL draft back in the day (only example of this ever happening i can think of -an oustanding Canadian prospect totally CFL undrafted, even in the late rounds - cause they knew he was pretty well an NFL lock = ...

Re: Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

Much to my disappointment, Konar was a non-factor on defence and STs as a Lion last year. Derek Taylor, who keeps stats for missed tackles, mentioned last year that Konar missed 23% of his tackle opportunities as an Eskimo in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 Solomon Elimimian was the league's surest tackler ...

Re: BC Lions Free Agents Signings & Signings around the CFL

Rhymes was targeted lots with Ottawa - and made some big plays and nice catches - go along with plenty of drops and bonehead plays; a 5th receiver at best if he could even make a roster with good TC receiver competition, IMO.

Re: Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

Konar's days as a starting LB are over. IMO when it comes to MLB he's Javy Glatt-Lite or Javy Glatt 2.0. Take your pick. His value is as a depth guy who plays primarily ST but has enough experience to chip in as a mid game injury fill in. That can bring value. I don't know where to find the stats b...

Re: Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

You would lose that wager re; receivers. Main reason Campbell always went with 1 or at most 2 NAT receivers is that he never had better than Sinopoli (who is outstanding) and a bunch of journeyman calibre hobos. He never had the likes of a raw but quickly improving talent like Cottoy to be in that ...

Off-season / FA sigings & losses and draft implications

Wonder where Ed & co. will look in the draft after all the recent roster moves? Lions top 4 picks are #s 3, 12, 23 & 40 (at this point). Loss of both Menard & Luke on the D-line ( i predicted Maciocia would go after one or both) - might be some need for new NI D-line talent - and IMO the...

Re: Free Agent Predictions

I could see Maciocia going after one or both of Luke & Menard; the Als need D-Line help and Macocia would know both of these guys well, and might like to have even more Quebec talent on the roster; Luke could maybe be an instant starter there to upgrade their average to weak DT talent; Menard is...
