Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
I was pretty much expecting a new extension and raise for VA. He should be considered in the top third of CFL starters but was on a pay scale that put him in the bottom third. Now is the time to bump him up and nice work to lock him up for two additional years after this coming season. While I have...

Re: Thoughts on getting Stanback?
I think the signing of Stanback as well as the earlier attempt to sign Oliveira are pretty strong indicators that the Lions intend to have a more balanced attack in 2024. Part of getting Stanback to sign on surely involved convincing him that he will play a prominent role in the 0, which means more ...

Lions sign QB Dolegala
From 3D Nation:

A very good signing, imo. He's 6'7"..Yikes!

Re: Woody Baron & Quincy Mauger released
Mauger is a strange release. He acquitted himself quite well at both Free Safety and Strong Side Nickleback. There must be more to the story that is not public.

Re: Thoughts on getting Stanback?
I wrote in another thread that I much prefer the Lions landing Stanback at a Cap friendly price vs overspending on Brady Oliveria, which almost happened. At 6' and 233lbs Stanback should be a real asset in short yardage situations. Since the Lions don't appear to have a decent short yardage QB, I wo...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
In terms of SMS spending limits, I prefer a Cap friendly Stanbeck vs a very expensive Oliveria, so I am quite happy the way things worked out. And of course Stanbeck's salary allows more $ for Betts. With the Als seemingly out of the picture with signing Betts, I think having a career season playing...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
This from 3D Nation in the article on Edwards-Cooper agreeing to terms with the Riders: "Pending free agents can negotiate with teams across the league during the current window, which closes on Feb. 11. Players can agree to terms on a contract with a particular team for 2024, however, these de...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
The Stanback signing is great as long as the Lions decide to finally get serious about a running game. The fact that they went hard after Oliveira indicates that indeed they might have come around to realizing that without a strong running attack they aren't going anywhere in the playoffs.

Re: Alex Bazzie - Some guys aren't so bright.
Bazzie should have retired from football and moved to California where retail theft under $900USD is legal....Some States aren't so bright either.

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
I am hoping that for Betts, being coached on the D line by John Bowman is what will be the deciding factor in staying in B.C., with the prospect of repeating his spectacular 2023 again in 2024. It is not always about $ as sometimes it's about where you can preform at your best.

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?
Tenure as a qualification for honouring a player be it Hof, # retired, Ring of Honour, is a tricky one with the CFL. Cam Wake only played 3 years in the CFL before having a stellar NFL Career. Mervyn Fernandez only played 5 years in the CFL before heading to the NFL, and 6 stellar NFL seasons. Warre...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?
Cromartie, which #9 are you talking about, Roy Dewalt or Damon Allen? I favour Dewalt as I was never all that big of an Allen fan. IMO, Allen's claim to fame was his super long career which enabled him to amass impressive career stats. But in reality, for most of his career there were other QBs who ...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?
I'm with Irvin on this retiring numbers is counter productive. OTOH I didn't know Jim Brown had passed away in 2023 until I watched a Browns game on TSN and all the Browns players had a "32" patch on their jerseys.

Wouldn't Strevler make more money and be a starter in the USFL vs a CFL backup?

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
And the Lions spending spree on their key receivers concludes with a new 3-year contract for Jevon Cottoy. Farhan tweeted yesterday his new deal is north of $200,000 per season. A very productive week for Mr. McElvoy and Mr. Campbell. https://www.bclions.com/2024/01/17/three-more-years-for-big-cat-...
