Re: 2021 CFL free agency

Hard pass on Jennings. A nice young man for sure. Nothing against him personally. But maybe the biggest fall from grace for any quarterback that I can recall. Otherworldly in 2016 but in steady decline since then. Even sports psychologists can't seem to get him out of his head. Sure, maybe Ed rocked...

Re: Throwback Thursday

There is some really cool video footage of Lions training camp in Kelowna in 1960. The source says 1959 but I don't think they wore the winged football helmet design (aka "Wolverines" design) until the 1960 season. It looks to me like Dave Skrein doing the instructing. I don't see Willie i...

Re: Ed Hervey leaves Lions for "personal reasons"

Really glad you're back posting, Blitz. Now, if we can get WestCoastJoe out of Lionbacker retirement, we can get the band back together. I miss Wallyball on the admin side as he ran a tight ship, generally hired good scouts and coaches, but not on the head coaching side as I believe he was to...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency

I recall Norman being versatile, so that is a possibility. If Fig isn't re-signed, I wonder if Matthews could play at LT? Then there is David Knevel whom I think is talented and seasoned enough to start. However, with his frame, I would rather see him at RT than at guard. Whatever the case, I do hop...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency

Love the Cioffi signing. The guy is a playmaker with Bighill-type hustle.

The number of Ottawa players signing here tells me that they liked playing for Rick Campbell.

Re: Ed Hervey leaves Lions for "personal reasons"

Welcome back Blitz! I think that is the consensus on this board, or at least one supported by several of us. That Ed screwed up big time and had to pay the price. My guess is LeLacheur would have been more forgiving about this than David Braley. It's something that many GMs do - guarantee a portion ...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency

My worst fear, perhaps completely unfounded, is that there are Ed Hervey loyalists out there who may say 'no thanks' to BC due to his recent ouster from the GM ranks (okay, technically it was a "resignation," but I think we can all call it for what it really was - a firing, likely at the b...

Re: Mike Reilly, Lemar Durant restructure contracts

Great local interview with Mike on CTV Morning Live this morning. I've said it before, but I can't think of a better spokesman and face of a team than Mike Reilly. This guy is such a naturally engaging and thoughtful personality. Just a great, seasoned pro in front of a camera or microphone. ...

Merry Christmas fellow Lionbackers!

I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year's. Here's hoping for a successful return of CFL football for 2021 (missing Blitz's version of "A Visit from St. Nicholas" aka "Twas The Night Before Christmas" :sigh:). Thank you to D for running this ...

Re: why is CFL interest so tepid in toronto?

Before writing the Argos off, they need several seasons of dominance. Stampeders-like success. They really haven't had that winning pedigree or stability for a great many years. Yes, they have won the Grey Cup here and there but mostly mediocre. But I am referring to several 12, 13-win seasons of ex...

Re: 2021 CFL free agency

There is a reasonably good chance that Sergio Castillo finds his way back to the Den. While he may stick around waiting for another NFL call, the chances of him staying with the New York Jets took a huge hit with 3 consecutive demoralizing field goal misses in yesterday's 40-3 blowout loss to Seatt...

Re: Throwback Thursday

I have the 1971 Classic from Empire recorded. It has the entire pre-game and commercials. I don't believe the 4th quarter exists from this game. I think it got destroyed. In its place is a narrated highlight piece (that of course, shows the infamous Leon McQuay fumble). I was able to send a copy to ...

I don't believe they will be if the number of (comparatively cheaper) US FAs the club has signed lately is any indication.

Re: 2021 CFL free agency

I agree with Hambone that getting Reilly's contract sorted out should be priority 1. Hard to know what you have to spend elsewhere until this is settled. I didn't think $725K was really sustainable during the good old days, let alone after a shutdown season due to a pandemic. Getting Reilly and Burn...
