Lions at Ticats Aug. 15 - Game Day Thread

Lion receiver way offside there, officials miss it, we get a big break.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

51 yard field goal by Leone
Leone wraps the first half with a 51yd FG on the final play, 31-10 Ham. Need to build on this momentum in the 2nd half and receiving the kickoff helps.
But take this half and flush it down the toilet.

Leone turned his back on the guy and sat down. Made no football play on that. You'd think he was Paul's age where you don't want him to do something like tackle.sj-roc wrote:That should have been an illegal block on Leone near the end but they're letting it slide. Rintoul is saying the officials are ruling that Leone was already falling anyway.TheLionKing wrote:Another return by Banks but a penalty may nullify the return
31-1 after the convert.
How do the Lions suck? Let me count the ways...
But this team lacks character. when you're losing 31-7 and 84 gets up yapping... all I can say is ' hey pal, look at the score board.' There is too much in this team of ME. Time to inject some character.
Lulay did all he could when he was being swarmed (he's not great but he plays hard).

Nine, they'd already had a rouge but they missed the convert on the TD, which perhaps ought to have been a 2PCA.B.C.FAN wrote:The Lions scored 10 points in two minutes. If they can keep that up they'll be fine.

If we can get a quick TD to start the second half we'll be right back in it. Defense has to come up with another second half shutout though.

Note the Banks interview. EVERY Ticat players talks the same. How they are playing also for each other.
Heard that of out a BC Lion?
On O, it's usually Harris having to say how he and Travis have the special relationship due to their history.
Lions from HC on down talk about "being together" - not the same as actually playing with accountability and intensity to each other.
McCallum left BC and said there were issues right down to parking spaces in this team. Is there still this as there is little intensity in the whole team.
Correction: Lulay is the exception.

Well so much for that comeback plan. Lulay's throw deflected for a pick.

3rd turnover of the game
The Ticats force teams into mistakes and then make them pay. Here's how the points added up in the first half:
7 points - 2 missed tackles on a short pass in the flat, resulting in a 49-yard TD by Banks.
7 points - fumble by Harris, the first fumble lost by the Lions this year, returned 26 yards for a TD by Norwood.
7 points - 1 blown coverage on the side side of the field resulting in a 64-yard TD by Underwood.
3 points - fumble by Harris sets up a 42-yard field goal by Medlck.
7 points - no contain on the wide side of the field, allowing for a 96-yard punt return by Banks.
That's five B.C.plays resulting in 31 Hamilton points. Ironically, the B.C. defence and coverage teams did well otherwise. The two big plays on offence accounted for exactly half of Hamilton's 226 yards passing in the half. Take those away and Collaros has 113 yards passing, less than Lulay's 130, and the Ticats have 38 yards rushing, less than the Lions' 40. And aside from the TD return, the Lions held Banks to 10 yards on three other punt returns. The Lions are paying a big price for five mistakes.

Not walkin' out of this game... much too painful to watch, but my team needs me and I'm in it to the end
