#1 ranked CFL prospect David Onyemata from U of Manitoba went 120th overall to New Orleans.
They're at #160 now with 90+ picks still to go. Based on NFL rankings I think the rest of the top CFL prospects are long shots for selection. Have to wait a few days to see who gets PFA offers, who just gets invites to rookie camps and who gets only disappointment.

Unlikely he gets picks until the last round of the CFL draft by someone rolling the dice that in 4 or 5 years he may done in the NFL and come to the CFL. Likely David O will play in the NFL for at least 3 years, probably more. Waste of a first round pick if some team takes him. Lions need Offensive Linemen, so hope they pick one in First Round.
Some early NFL UDFA signings and mini-camp invites involving CFL-draft-eligible players:
Tevaun Smith, WR, Iowa, ranked No. 2 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, signed with Indianapolis.
Mehdi Abdesmad, DL, Boston College, ranked No. 3 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, signed with Tennessee.
Arjen Colquhoun, DB, Michigan State, ranked No. 4 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, signed with Dallas.
Charles Vaillancourt, OL, Laval, ranked No. 6 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, has reportedly been invited to the New York Giants and Oakland rookie camps.
Alex Singleton, LB, Montana State, ranked No. 7 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, accepted a mini-camp invite from New England.
Taylor Loffler, DB, UBC, ranked No. 11 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, accepted a mini-camp invite from the N.Y. Giants.
Mercer Timmis, RB, Calgary, ranked No. 13 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, accepted a mini-camp invite from the N.Y. Giants.
Elie Bouka, DB, Calgary, ranked No. 18 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, signed with Arizona.
Doug Corby, WR, Queens, ranked No. 20 by the CFL Scouting Bureau, accepted a mini-camp invite from the N.Y. Giants.

Same story as last year. Giants love giving these Canuck kids invites to mini camps. Seems to me they invited half a dozen last year too. Didn't Fabien get the same invite from them in his draft year?
You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.
Yes, Fabien is one of many Canadians invited to Giants rookie mini-camp in recent years. I wouldn't worry about a player invited to an NFL mini-camp without a contract. Most are camp bodies. Few, if any, will be signed by an NFL team. But for those who have signed NFL contracts, don't expect to see them in the CFL this year. They might be worth drafting in the middle to late rounds but the Canadian talent pool is deep enough to withstand the loss of a few players to the NFL.Hambone wrote:Same story as last year. Those are my thoughts too. Can't let a mini-camp invite alter draft board rankings. Have to treat them as though they won't stay in the NFL beyond the mini-camp. 1, maybe 2, might defy the odds and get a contract to attend training camp to again face long odds of making a roster. IMO I think you treat them as if they will be available for the upcoming CFL training camps or worst case scenario by Labour Day. The UDFA signings still have to run the gauntlet of the mini-camps but odds are high they will be attending NFL camps. They may make the 53 man roster, could land a PR spot or could be released. You almost have to treat them like the redshirts that used to be eligible for drafting. You make your decision base on the understanding you likely won't see them until next year and they could play themselves into a position where you don't see them for a few years, if ever. Reading various comments in recent years NFL teams aren't shy about patting themselves on the back when a UDFA becomes a solid starter or rotational player which tells one that it is still a major uphill battle for them to make it in the NFL. For CFL teams their own depth and needs go a long way in determining if they can use a pick on a signed UDFA. A team with good depth and extra picks in the top 3 rounds is more likely to use one on one of these guys than a team that has more immediate needs.

Wally was on the radio this week saying he expects the first 4 draft picks to make the roster this year! That might be setting his expectations a little high, but could be tipping their hand that they're not going to take the 'risky' (or down the road) picks like a Brett Boyko or even a Bo Lokombo (which is turning out to be a really smart pick in the 3rd round of the 2013 draft).Hambone wrote:A team with good depth and extra picks in the top 3 rounds is more likely to use one on one of these guys than a team that has more immediate needs.
