Highs:
* The Ottawa success story - on and off the field
* Henry Burris – the 40-year old MOP. Who knew??
* The next generation of star quarterbacks emerging (Collaros, Harris, Jennings)
* Sure, you can say the extra point being moved back to the 32 is gimmicky, but no one’s walking to the fridge after a TD anymore.
* The play of Mike Reilly. Not purrfect, but just wins games
* The league’s new #WWMO (What We’re Made Of) campaign. A little late, but very effective
The Lows:
* Flags for saying mean things to your opponent, flags for simulating the flag motion, flags for being pushed into the quarterback, flags for.....
* The Michael Sam sizzle quickly turning into the Michael Sam fizzle.
* The Argos logging more road miles than U2.
* Jeffrey Orridge being taken ill at Grey Cup. Somewhere between ill-prepared and ill-infomed.
* Spate of QB injuries. Bad ones.
* The petulant Kent Austin news conference. Really, get this guy some media coaching.
* Coaches under contract getting raided without a clear league policy.
* BC pissing away half its season on conservatism, bad schemes, and players playing out of position.
* 3 wins all year from the Riders. That’s an average month for the Esks. Did anyone see this coming? Okay, this should be one of the “highs”
* The league’s new logo (“Our Balls Are Rectangular”??). A solution looking for a problem.

Agreed on all points, David. I would add another low:
* Falling TV ratings and attendance, at least in B.C. and several other markets. If this was indeed the purrfect storm of a bad schedule and unusual competition due to the Women's World Cup, Pan Am Games and the Blue Jays playoff run, the league will need a strong bounce-back year in 2016.

Always fun to read your keen perspective, David.
Thanks.

Good read David. Amount of penalties were ridiculous at times. If anything, the CFL needs to speed up its game. If it could somehow get it down to the 2:45 mark it would be a big accomplishment and make it much more fan friendly for the paying customer especially.
BC FAN also bang on about the TV and attendance numbers. Too many excuses rather than just focusing on making the game more appealing to the all important casual fan.
Here in BC it's been 3 years of a very inconsistent product competing against a sizzling NFL team 2 hours down south loaded with dynamic young star players. Firmly believe this should be the Lions' greatest concern and don't really know what they can do about it although a 70 cent Canadian dollar helps a little.
Just how much time is the casual fan (whose first love is hockey) going to invest in watching football? Lions better give them something to distract their interest very soon.
Wonder if Jonathan Jennings knows exactly how much weight rests on his shoulders for turning this franchise around?

I would also add another Kent Austin inspired bad.
Assaulting a player from another team on the sidelines.
As well
Post season suggestions of tampering
More concussions of the career shortening nature (Cornish)
On the bright side.
Seems that there are more Cdn players taking role of big play guys

Tell me how long must a fan be strong? Ans. Always.
To be more exact, our balls are now doubly-truncated prolate spheroids.David wrote:* The league’s new logo (“Our Balls Are Rectangular”??). A solution looking for a problem.
Which gives us the purrfect CFL theme song... a 1980s-era lo-fi college radio tune, but apropos nonetheless:* Flags for saying mean things to your opponent, flags for simulating the flag motion, flags for being pushed into the quarterback, flags for.....

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
