Game blog. Signed in late. Missed two series

Q1

W 2 out

B 2 out

W Huge return

W Nice blitz by Biggie, and nice design at the LOS, FG, W 3-0

B Ant for 4, Ant for 0, 2 out again, no cutback, 3 runs and one pass for net -5 at this point

W Willy to Denmark, big gainer, Nice pass, JRL knocks it loose! FG miss, W 4-0

Nice reference and tribute to Bud Grant

B Nice KG to EJ, huge, OL "starting to jell" LOL, Ant for big gain, cutback, Ant for TD, Ramsey and Hardrick, experienced Internationals doing their thing. BC 7-4 Helluva good angle block by Hardrick. Great reach block by Ramsey. Keep it simple.

W 2 out

B Ant for 3, 2 out. Hardrick (Hard Rock) with the pancake quake. LOL. Awesome stats for D. 51 series no TDs.

W Nice sack by Menard, have liked him since the draft. 2 out.

B Short pass. Offside. 2 out.

7-4 for BC at end of first Q. Our D outstanding. O good at times.
.............
Q2

W Roughing on 56, bogus call. Willy nice scramble. Denmark drops it.

B EJ for 6. EJ for first down. Ant for 3. Overthrow to Manny. Suitor mentions his speed and power, as missing. Manny looked good from his first TC with us.

We need to do more on O. As MLF has noted, O'Shea has the makings of a great coach, and the Bombers are ready to play.

W Huge run for Cotton, saving tackle by JRL. Penalty on Williams. Taylor and Westerman awesome. Nice drive by Win, FG, 7-7.

Eric Taylor reminds me of Big Daddy Tyrone Williams. Huge quiet guys. Awesome players.

B 10 penalties on BC so far. Ant for 7. KG overthrow. Five 2 outs.

W Penalty on BC. 11. Not a good sign. Cotton huge run. Cotton again. Great drive by Win. TD to Denmark.

B.Great return by Iannuzzi. I have been quietly supportive of him, as he has had few opportunities, and seemed to fall into a black hole. He showed us his speed and ability on that return.

B Ant for 8. Beck first down. Ant stopped. Drive stopped. FG. W 14-10.

W Nice run, fumble. Rec by 56.

B KG to EJ, awesome. FG, W 14-13. At the half.

Win not many in the box. Just 6 vs a good run game scheme and blocking.

Intense game. O'Shea's team is well motivated and prepared. As is Benny's. It helps us having some great player leadership. 56. 44. ET. Phillips. Glenn. Manny. And the sudden star, EJ.

Four sacks by BC. Mark W playing possum during the year, not featuring the blitz. LOL

.........

106 yards rushing by Win. A concern.

Too many penalties. Another concern.

Beautiful tribute by Jovon Olafioye to his Mother, who passed away in May.

13 for 310 by EJ in three quarters of play.
..........

Q3

B Underthrown to Gore. EJ, but 2 out. Beauty punt by Schmitt.

W Blitz pressure effective. Blitz again. Ha ha ... As I noted, MW has been playing possum. Keeping the blitz package under wraps. LOL

B Penalty on return. Bad sign with the penalties. Benny will say we played our asses off, and he will be right. But penalties reflect on the HC in my opinion. Getting it right is tough. Aggression but under control.

B Ant for 5. Ant rec, big, but offside. Roughing. 1st. Rolly for no gain. Easy to trip up. Not really a running back, but I like the call. Blitz, knock down. Hardrick roughing.

No yards on us.

W Cotton for 4. Cotton for 20. He looks like a young Stefan Logan. Willy to Watson. Nice drive. Challenge. Overturned. Benny restrained tonight. Blitz got him. Ha ha 5 sacks. Menard. FG, 17-13.

Marco awesome return. Penalty. Way to go on the run, Marco. Fast, Two clips.

B Ant for 8. Short yardage so much better this year. But Benny is playing very tight. EJ awesome. Time count. BC intense but also sloppy. KG to Tuinei. I don't mind seeing Rolly run the ball. Manny. Great play by Glenn. Beck 1st. He is good on short yardage. Behind Hard Rock. LOL. Int. Amazing play. I like Glenn as our QB. Manny did not help Glenn. No TD. That would have been a good lead for Winnipeg, 11 points.

End of Q3. 17-13. Bombers winning the ground game.
......

Q4

W Willy scrambles for first. Penalty. Phillips Int.

B Manny for 3. Multi formations. High throw to Gore, who misses. 2 out.

W Khreem sack. Khreem again. I have been supportive of him for his strong play in his time here.

B Ant for 4. Sack. Good pass rush. Blitz.

W Suitor says run Cotton, and he is right. Int by Parks. Beauty. All instinct.

B KG to Manny. PI. No roughing. Big blitz. Uh oh . KG is hurting. Benny is going to inflame his team, in a counter productive way. Wow. Beck to EJ runs right over his man. TD. All Star, all the way. EJ is composed. He knows this is his stage. Awesome. BC 20-17.

W Hard hitting game. Khreem again. Attaway, Mr. Underrated.

B Huge return by Antolin. Ant for 2. Beck is composed so far. Penalty on BC. Sears on the blitzes.

BC 21-17 with 6:24 left.

W Khreem with four. LOL Willy taking too long. Good coverage by BC.

As I indicated MW changed up his modus operandi this game.

B Beck calm. Beck to Poblah. Good for both. There is Kito's athleticism.

28-17. Beck is so happy. Benny wants a bump. But Khari gets it.

Close game. Much closer than how it looks now.

W Willy to Kohlert for 49. Red Zone. 2:42 left. JRL killer hits once again tonight. TD. 28-23. Nice cover by Phillips. Awesome. 2:27 left.

Another beautiful return by Marco. Way to go, Marco.

B Ant for 9. Many injuries for the Bombers. Hard hitting game. Sneak for first. 1:53. Ant for 8. Lions blocking like crazy. Receivers too. Great game for us. Big hogs, great push by Hard Rock. Confusion. Sack.

Sack by J.R. LaRose. Way to go, J.R. Very hard hitting in the latter part of the season.

.................

Benny deserves credit for an intense effort by his team.

Very intense game. Extremely hard hitting. Both teams highly motivated. Fun game to watch.

Credit to the pro Kevin Glenn. Rising star Ernest Jackson. Keola Antolin. Hard Rock. Ramsey. Beck. Phillips. Khreem Smith with a game for the ages. Solo. Biggie. Parks. LaRose. Marco Iannuzzi, fully worthy of a first round pick. Dunno what happened on the way to the store, so to speak. He has talent.

Great game plan by Mark W. Mixed them up with a blitz oriented package. 10 freaking sacks. Khari did all right too. The Bombers did not make it easy. Our blocking scheme was simple and powerful. I would have to think that Benny and Wally finally prevailed on Dan Dorazio. Dan, Keep It Simple.

Very satisfying win, into the playoffs.

That was an exciting game to watch, with big plays on offence, defense and special teams and a clutch performance by the defense in particular, featuring a double-digit sack tally and two interceptions. Many of the sacks were coverae sacks, as Willy couldn't find anyone open downfield.

Kudos to John Beck for coming off the bench and going 3 for 4, with 2 TDs, and to Kito Poblah for his game-clinching first TD of the season. I've always liked Poblah since his days as a Bomber. The Lions need to keep finding ways to get him the ball.

Kudos also to Khreem Smith and J.R. LaRose for leading the defensive charge and to Marco Iannuzzi for some solid kick return yardage.

On to Edmonton, with second place still within reach.

Players Of The Game:

Offense - Ernest Jackson
Defense - Khreem Smith
Special Teams - Marco Iannuzzi

Game ball to John Beck though for sacking up and coming in late to throw 2 TD picks. Was outstanding on short yardage all night too.

TSN turning point: when Sears caught on the replay with a knee on the ground on the lateral after the INT. A TD there would have been a nail in our coffin.

Your description pretty much sums up how I saw things too.

Was worried that the turnover battle would not help but solid work by all three phases late helped get the win.

As for my :bang:
So many penalties. Was it the bye? Doubt it, it just seems to be a regular brainfart and much of that, IMO, is coaching.

Clock management late in the half. Second down, close to the endzone and you let most of the 15 seconds that were on the clock, RUN. I was screaming for the timeout but who knows maybe it had already been taken?

No question the WEST teams have been served notice. I realize nobodies concerned as this year is done but the Bombers seem to have some of the tool there.

You're allowed to take your 2nd timeout in the first half now if you want but I don't think we had even taken our first one to that point.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

All great points, IMO.... It really is nice seeing a monster in orange on the O-line (Hardrick?). Nasty!

Iannuzi had such a solid game and love watching sacks. Not sure what Sol E.'s final total was (4 or 5 tackles and fumble recovery) but in a weird way, kinda a quiet game for the big guy....

We got 15 minutes of exciting football. That was nice, but the preceding 45 minutes was exceedingly unprofessional, boring, dumb-assed football. Flags on every play, whistles, whistles, whistles, usually deserved. A team that plays with that many head-up-the-ass mistakes deserves to be beaten. Fortunately, there is talent on the club and that showed through, but only after they could see that playing around was about to be a disaster.

As a group, the Lions offensive teams seem to have tuned out the coaching staff and their responsibility to their teammates. Do I know enough to blame it all on Benevedes? No, I don't. But I have been following this team since 1954 and I have rarely seen so much talent squandered by boneheaded play. It was ugly.

Oh my, that was a relief! Great job by the defense! Way too many penalties though..... they MUST clean that up if they expect to go anywhere in the playoffs, especially against the better teams. They have two games now to clean that up and play more disciplined football. Get things tuned up! :roar:

Overall from start to end I'm not sure exciting would be the first be the first descriptor I'd come up with as it was just WPG and their O line had blocking issues and they dumbly let their RB rest and let the Lions basically eat them up with sack after sack with predictable play calls.

BUT it was exciting from the point of view of moments of brilliance punctuated by moments of stupidity like the penalties on the 92 yard run for a TD by Ianuzzi called back by two unnecessary penalties. Maybe the first one by Bazzie might have stopped that guy from reaching Marco but I'm not sure until I see that again but overall their were some dumb unneeded penalties.

Ianuzzi and ST were very good - sans penalties.

I felt bad for him as 92 yards for a TD would have been a real hi-lite for his career.

Beck stepping up was not like a Ham. HC call where he wants to give the DEF another look but a HC having no choice as it looks like Glenn was clocked pretty hard. What I liked about Beck was the change in how the DEF had to think first and not just react.

Lions DEF did as you suggest - a remarkable job and continues to prove they can play.

I thought the finish might have got even more exciting if McCallum had been able to do what the Lions wanted and not get a single on the punt but have them deep in their end. The single put BC up by 4 and that changed entirely what the Bombers had to do to win. Even after the Lion TD it the single made the Bombers have to score 11 which meant a forced shot for a 2 pt conversion and they didn't get it.

Funniest moment of the night. When Beck threw the TD to Pooblah and went running to the sideline obviously excited. Ol' Benevides had his arms outstretched to give him a congratulatory hug and Beck went right past him to Khari. Still wish Bene would stop being such a cheerleader and would chew off the assess of some of those guys taking dumbass penalties. Also as previously mentioned, at the end of the 2nd Q. the wasted time in the last 10 seconds was so amateurish so as to be nightmarish. To answer the question posed earlier, they did call a timeout with 2 seconds left so the fact that they didn't call it sooner was just dumb poor coaching by someone asleep at the switch. However, some really nice plays tonight both on D and O. It was hard to watch at points but pressure was evident tonight. Make no mistake though, this 10 sac performance was as much about Willy taking way to long to decide to pass or throw it away. You ain't gonna get 8 steamboats with a Ricky Ray for example. But it was nice to see that kind of pressure from all over the place tonight.

Glad the Lions win and we're in the playoffs. I didn't think the game was overly exciting except the 4th quarter when the offence finally got it in gear. Iannuzzi was outstanding returning kicks. Undisciplined penalties continue to be a problem.
