3-0 Canada. That should do it. The only question left is will Carey Price get his 2nd straight shutout.
10 minutes is still a lot of time esp with Sweden about to go on the PP.TheLionKing wrote:3-0 Canada. That should do it. The only question left is will Carey Price get his 2nd straight shutout.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
OK, if Sweden had a comeback in them it would have started on that pretty flaccid PP. Under 6 mins now, this one is pretty much done.

Sweeeet !
Just like football, it looks like a good defence is what wins important games in hockey too. And as expected, the Finns are a heck of a lot happier than the Swedes.

Ho-hum, another hockey gold for Canada.

Not to take anything away from Canada's performance, but consider how the game might have turned out if Canada was playing without Toews and Perry in addition to Tavares. That's the position the Swedes were in, with three of their biggest stars out. Good on them for putting up a struggle, and the first half of the game was close.

Canada surrendered a measly 3 goals in the tournament. We'll probably won't see that happen again.
We were also missing Stamkos and there was also some reaction about Giroux not getting the nod. I think the scratches were largely a wash.Coast Mountain Lion wrote:Not to take anything away from Canada's performance, but consider how the game might have turned out if Canada was playing without Toews and Perry in addition to Tavares. Maybe, but if you bring up Stamkos then what about Henrik Sedin? Neither of them even made the trip.sj-roc wrote:We were also missing Stamkos and there was also some reaction about Giroux not getting the nod. As a Habs fan, I'm just p's off that Subban never got into the lineup. He might have lit up the offence a bit more, though who knows who else he might have lit up. Love Carey Price though.
With all due respect to Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse in bobsleigh who will be the flag bearers for the closing ceremonies, should it be someone on the men's ice hockey team instead since no one from the team ever held the flag since 1948? A women's ice hockey team member was the flag bearer in 2006 (Danielle Goyette) and again in 2014 (Hayley Wickenheiser) opening ceremonies and for the sake of gender equality - if it was a woman who held the flag for the opening ceremonies should it be a man who carries it for the closing ceremonies? I guess the decision for the flag bearer was made before the final game in case the team did not win gold.

As I understand it the players are jetting out of Sochi right away, not even hanging around for the CC so why even consider any of them at all.

Can't believe that Henrik Lundquist is named the All-Star goalie over Carey Price.
