Someone please remind me why we had the lockout ?
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Gillis need to make some changes if the Canucks hope to make an extended run in the playoffs. Should be interesting as the trade deadline nears.

Calgary traded Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh for 2 prospects and a 1st round draft choice. Class guy, I wish him well

Did they actually get anything of value here? I am not sure.TheLionKing wrote:Calgary traded Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh for 2 prospects and a 1st round draft choice. Class guy, I wish him well

Pittsburgh 1st round pick is around 27th to 30th overall.
So the Penguins were a lot of puck pundits choice to win the Stanley Cup BEFORE they made the last three deals, finishing the trifecta with Ignila? I know you can't BUY team chemistry and win a championship but adding a few more prime parts to what was already a nice roster has to make Penguin fans happy.
What was that trainwreck of a first period? Oilers scored on their first 3 shots (first t wo on Schnieder, third on Louie). The Canucks seemed to have that 'deer in the headlights' look. Admittedly, once Taylor Hall got the hats raining down, that was it but by then it was 4-0 and Hall was breaking a Gretzsky record. The Canucks did NOT look the better of the two teams the rest of the way. IMO, they should have because they were trailing but the Oilers were the better team the rest of the way. Luongo stood on his head late in the third just to keep it from getting worse.
Coach V has his usual choice now. Do you go back to the probable #1, just having a 6 game win streak come to an end so he can get this 'mulligan' off of his back; or do you go to Luongo based on how he finished? Usual choice with a chorus of critics regardless of how things turn out....

Gillis need to add some parts. They lack scoring.
Among all 30 teams, only Vancouver and last-place Colorado have yet to make a trade this season.TheLionKing wrote:Gillis need to add some parts. They lack scoring.

Robin Williams has tweeted that he wants the Canucks to start winning for mother russia
Apparently Gillis is going to bring him in to give the team a pep talk before every game.

The trade for Iginla seemed like an astute move given Crosby is out for the rest of the regular season.
All the Canucks got was Derek Roy, and Luongo is still a . Good luck in the playoffs.

I am a fan of Roberto Luongo. Always have been.
IMO he has conducted himself with incredible class and dignity and team spirit through this very difficult time.
He can be a Canuck forever, as far as I am concerned.
I am glad that he won Gold with Team Canada in the Olympics. A Stanley Cup would be a capper.
Can the Canucks go far in the playoffs this year? Dunno ... Doesn't look like it. Scoring is a problem. Teams seem to have figured out how to neutralize the Sedins. Our talent is not in the top tier IMO. Without stellar goaltending we are very, very ordinary. It has gone back to a "clutch and grab" league IMO, and we are not suited to that. The Bruins mugged us. The Hawks mugged us a few times. That is the way it is. IMO ...
Viva Roberto. Class once again in the press conference today.
