Sarah off the team

As reported in the Vancouver Sun Sarah Porchetta has been released from the team.
Vancouver Sun wrote:Sarah of the Felions Dance Team didn't realize, presumably, that the December issue of Playboy Magazine would be hitting the newsstands in November. It is clearly stated in each Felions agreement with the B.C. Lions that none of the dancers is allowed to pose nude in a publication during the football season.

But there she is on page 26 in the current issue of Playboy, proudly showing her stuff in the buff as 'Co-ed of the Month".

George Chayka, vice president of business operations with the Leos, was hoping Sarah's absence from the chorus line during last Saturday's game against Calgary would go by unnoticed. Silly George.

He actually asked for a moment to collect his thoughts when I brought the subject up Friday. "Uh," he began, "we, uh, have rules and regulations and the Felion in question broke the rules and was subsequently released."

Generally speaking, most squads have some kind of "morality" clause. Can't say as I blame her though. Playboy = payed work, Dance Team = Nada. Maybe got a trip to Mexico if you were one of the lucky 20. Have to sell Calendars to finance your trip to the Grey Cup. How do other CFL teams compensate (if they do), their Dance/Cheerleader teams?

You can also add Coquitlam's own Dorothy Stratten (1980) to that list. Unlike Pamela Anderson and Kim Conrad, Stratten's story was a tragic one. :sigh:

I'm surprised that they didn't get her the first time around, this summer.

Actually the Felions do get a stipend, IIRC. It was still the right thing for Sarah to do, this raises her profile immensely.

Not the first time

I don't know if the magazine they "busted" her for (no pun intended there haha) was the regular monthly issue or if it was the strictly pictoral Special Edition? If you were to count Special Editions then Sarah has appeared in three issues in the last ten months, she was on the cover of this spring's Collage Girls Special Edition March/April 2007. She was also in a Nudes Special Edition, and most recently in the December/January Lingerie Special Edition.

I'm not going to get into the whole should this be acceptable for a Felion or not debate, what I am wondering is, why now? Cleary she'd been doing this kind of modeling before becoming a Felion, and during the season, so why wait until the last homegame of the season to kick her off the team? If they were worried about a contraversy... well firing her is what's going to be the start of it. Prior to this who knew, and who really cared? As far as I'm concerned the Lions have made a mistake by waiting this long to act on events that were clearly taking place for much longer than just this month. A rule was broken, yes, but was there some sort of deception involved?

Whatever the whole story is we're not likely to know, but Sarah and her orange extensions will be missed at the Western Final. In the meantime we've got to carry on, one more to win at home against an as yet unknown foe, and then on to the Grey Cup final to repeat as Champions!

As for the Felions, as long as we still have Christa and Karen, and Shannen, all is not lost! ;)

GO LIONS GO!!

Oh, and a little p.s. for the mention of other BC girls who have been in PB, that list would not be complete without mentioning the lovely Brooke Windatt!!

I was talking to the mother of one of the Dance Team after the Calgary game and she said they didn't get anything. I do remember that they used to get $50.00 per game some years back but nevertheless, if there is a stipend, it is pretty trivial. Not that I would expect a huge amount anyways but some leeway should be given for people to pursue payed employment if you aren't going to pay them for the work that they do for you. And lets face it, Playboy is about as classy an "Adult" magazine as you are likely to find.

I agree they need a job, but the Lions need to be careful to not offend potential customers. Remember the controversy when Telus was going to introduce porn on their phones? The public was livid.

The last thing the Lions want is a mom saying "Well, that's the last time I go..".

As you have seen at the Metrotown auditions, there are plenty of girls lining up to be a Felion, and as long as that continues so does the ban on nude photography.

I stopped by a 7-11 on the way home but didn't see it, she's from North Van so it must be selling fast. 8)

Something told me that this might've been her one and only year on the squad, completely disregarding the playboy flap.

There's plenty of her in my facebook albums and then, there's the Felions calendar................ :rockin:

You didn't notice what I wrote on the other thread. I was the first to bring up the article.
