The IOC should take a good hard look at themselves before they talk about corruption.
From the Georgia Straight:
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Canada wins it's first medal of the Sochi Games. Mark McMorris wins Bronze. Felled in his 1st run but had an excellent run to capture the Bronze
No Winter Olympics would be complete without a figure-skating judge controversy.

Well watching the team format, I have to say that the Canadians got the better of the scores between the Russians, who were third and the Americans 1st. My order would have had the Russians first, Americans second, and Canadians third. But I am not a figure skating expert by any means, but when I can pick out problems, those must be magnified by the judges. Still with the result the way it played out, the concept of one another helping each other isn't a closed topic, as keeping the order keeps all things aligned to play out as the article suggests.sj-roc wrote:No Winter Olympics would be complete without a figure-skating judge controversy.

And then there's this. Evidently, no points were awarded....

Former NFL player breaks out of Sochi bathroom
Posted by Mike Florio on February 8, 2014, 9:55 AM EST
A member of the U.S. bobsled team once spent time with the Bills and Packers, before being cut by each before the start of the regular season. But former receiver Johnny Quinn has a new claim to fame.
Apart from becoming a U.S. Olympic bobsledder, Quinn has broken out of a bathroom at his hotel in Sochi.
Via our friends at NBCSports.com, Quinn busted through the door after he realized that: (1) he was locked in; and (2) he had no cell phone device with him.”With no phone to call for help, I used my bobsled push training to break out,” Quinn said on Twitter, with the hashtag #SochiJailBreak.
Given the bizarre no-toilet-fishing rules that apply at the site of the games, it’s safe to assume that blasting a hole through the door also is frowned upon. And while it’s an impressive feat to bust through any door, it doesn’t look like this specific door consisted of much more than honeycombed cardboard.
Perhaps they would have been able to afford better doors if they’d had better luck fishing in the toilets.

Anyone know what's with the "toilet-fishing"?

Do you want to know what 'toilet fishing' is?
Team Japans short program women's skater falls and still ends up ahead of the Canadian skater who kicked off the women's program. While not fixed IMO, it shows that the Olympics also fall into the equation that I associate figure skating with, it is more based on what you have done, vs what you just did. In the Olympics that shouldn't be the case, it is a one time event for most skaters, so why do they have to beat out all the history of each skater.

Canada wins Gold and Silver in the downhill freestyle moguls, both are sisters, with a third finishing top 12. Plus earlier in the day Canada won a bronze in snow boarding slopestyle. Good start to the day, matching Netherlands one event though in the 5000 speed skating sweep.

Just to be clear, the last one (bottom right) means "Marking big red X's on bathroom walls is permitted."

LOL. Actually, I think it means do not fire projectiles into the toilet (although I could be wrong)!
Along with, no spraying the walls; no puking; no hiding out in the toilets; no fishing in the toilets. We've been getting away with murder here in the West....

Figure skating is as political as it gets. Remember the fiasco with Jaimie Salle, David Pelletier and the French judge ?
