What's your definition of balance? 55/45 Pass? 65/35 Pass?OV:54-40 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 9:04 pmYet againOV:54-40 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:48 amThe team that has shown closest to balance on offence (percentage of run play calls vs. pass plays) has WON EVERY game so far this season; the team that has shown more favortism to pass plays has LOST every game so far this season.

Last night Winnipeg was 70/30 Pass until their last 2 possessions with 5 minutes left to go when they ran the ball 7 times to 2 pass plays to kill as much clock as possible.
You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.
Winnipeg's defensive line is too strong for most teams. They usually get pressure with four (no need to blitz), leaving QBs to scramble or take the sack. Hard to go deep on them when QBs (Evans for example) doesn't have the time to set up and look for his receivers downfield. Most of his completions where checkdowns to the flat on a scramble.

Turning 34 later this year and Adam Bighill is not slowing down at all. His closing speed and subsequent hit on the night's final INT was impressive.
For the last 3 years they have made basically every team in the league look overmatched against their defence. That coincided with the arrival of Bighill and Willie Jefferson who was also dynamic during his two earlier CFL stops as well.
They are also quietly starting 8 nationals with safety Malcolm Thompson filling in for injured all-star Brandon Alexander.
Huge test coming up here 2 weeks today. Their offence has definitely taken a significant hit, losing their top RB and WR to free agency, but it seems like scoring even 20 points against their defence is a monumental task.

One of Bighill's greatest assets has always been his initial burst of speed for the first 5 yards from a standing stop. He could have been an excellent RB but has had likely a longer career as a LB.SammyGreene wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 12:18 pmTurning 34 later this year and Adam Bighill is not slowing down at all. You reference Harris and Lawler but Demski's injury didn't look promising yesterday either, at least for the short term.SammyGreene wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 12:18 pmHuge test coming up here 2 weeks today. Thursday
B.C. 34 at Ottawa 31
Friday
Edmonton 29 at Hamilton 25
Saturday
Montreal 20 at Saskatchewan 41
Monday
Winnipeg 23 at Toronto 22
Short weeks are the theme for our Leos over the next couple of games. Just a walk-thru today and full practice on Tuesday before flying to Ottawa Wednesday to face a RedBlacks team coming off a bye week. 6-foot-4 Josh Pearson expected to make his Lions debut for the injured Bryan Burnham (fractured ribs). Bo Lokombo and James Butler are listed day-to-day.
The following week will see the Bombers coming to BC Place just 5 days after playing in Toronto which is shaping up as a big early season divisional game.

Chris Jones has apparently taken note of Nathan Rourke. He plans to start rookie national QB Tre Ford ahead if veteran American Nick Arbuckle when the Elks play on the road in Hamilton Friday. I love Ford’s potential but this seems like a recipe for disaster.

I agree, it is likely a recipe for disaster, but it is consistent with Jones' MO for rebuilding a team: get a player airlift going and throw as much against the wall as possible to see what sticks. Can't exactly fly in QBs mid season, so just go thru all the backup QBs on the roster instead. Of course everyone on the team is now worried about making mistakes/keeping their jobs, likely causing players to pause and think, instead of instant reaction to a play, contributing to the continuing disaster that is the 2022 Elks.B.C.FAN wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 12:22 pmChris Jones has apparently taken note of Nathan Rourke. A wild finish in Hamilton. Edmonton got three second-half turnovers to overcome a 10-point deficit and beat the Ticats 29-25 and move to 1-3. Hamilton drops to 0-4.
P.S. I was wrong in my prediction that starting rookie national QB Tre Ford was a recipe for disaster. The Edmonton defence won the game but Ford acquitted himself well, completing 15 of 26 passes for 159 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. He also rushed 6 times for 61 yards.

Just a stat/info that can be ignored or discounted.Hambone wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 9:46 amWhat's your definition of balance?

EVERY single game this season - the offence that has ended up deferring to or going with more pass play calls as a percentage of play calling, has LOST. Take that info any way you like.
