Just to be on the safe side, didn't Clark promise them a second bridge, sort of?

Now she has to tackle some very, very large problems with a bag of tricks that looks more like more costs to taxpayers at Hydro, ICBC and on and on.

Hydro has been drained of excess cash for years while deferral accounts are racking up long term debt that someone will have to pay. ICBC rules set up under the Liberals in 2003 for excess capital requirement and profits off Optional are going to see car insurance rates state to rise pretty rapidly while the province lacks a coordinated road safety plan that the NDP required and which held rates flat from 1996-2001.

The government will have to keep burdening taxpayers and cities with more costs as they - of course - must do the politically right thing - and balance the operating budget at the same as consumers in Canada not seeing real wages rise for 30 years.

It is not pretty.
