Fajardo is probably the best answer to the backup QB position and his time in Regina is up. (I also don't think he's going to get starter's money anywhere else, frankly).

I'm not sure how much more tape the rest of you need to see on O'Connor but it's evident to me, at least, that the processing ability required to play at this level isn't there, so it's time to move on.

I wouldn't burn cap space on a running back. They're a dime a dozen, and I'd like one capable of blitz pickup.

Happy to see Knevel back and TJ Lee retained, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Getting interesting. Negotiation window for FAs to talk to other teams opens Sunday. Lions still with some work to do with six 2022 starters still on the board including 3 on the o-line. Knevel signing might suggest not everyone is coming back. Chungh the biggest surprise. Was extended last time in December as part of the 2021 cap hit. Yet Chungh and Godber on the island today doing school presentations & pub appearances . Read into that for what it’s worth.

Josh Banks has signed a two-year extension through 2024. Banks had a productive season last year, with starts at nose tackle and 3-tech. He gives the Lions lots of depth in the interior DL, with Stove Richardson, Woody Baron, Tibo Debaillie, Nathan Cherry and Miles Fox also under contract.

I had wondered if because of that depth Banks might become an offseason casualty. But then if one looks back to last offseason it was clear depth, depth and more depth at all positions was a top priority for McEvoy and Campbell. Last year BC liked to rotate 8 DL often as 2 units rotating them like a hockey team rolls lines. I often noticed their 4 starters Gwachum, Banks, Bonner (before he was cut) and Betts would come out together to be replaced by Tuehema, Debaille, Cherry and Menard.

Running backs as a dime a dozen is a valid comment as it's true, much like kick/punt returners.

The issue in some teams is how poorly they use that running talent and with some like the Bombers how Rec's like Demski get used on run/tosses etc making for exciting offenses to watch.

Top 35 FAs as seen by 3 Down Nation:

The two most intriguing non-BC FAs are 3) Trevor Harris and 1) Eugene Lewis
Naylor and Lalji suggest that the stability in ownership might factor in that desire to stay or go with Sask likely to pursue Harris at QB. Montreal letting go their President with no ready to step in might also be hurting them.

35) OL Joel Figueroa, B.C. Lions (A)

26) RB James Butler, B.C. Lions (A)

15) Garry Peters

Off topic but a fan's you tube channel got called out by the CFL for copyright violations. Not sure why they'd not just ignore it as his intentions are good and not different than the media.

Depending on where all of these starting QB chips fall (e.g. Dane Evans, Cody Fajardo, Trevor Harris), Nick Arbuckle and Matthew Shiltz have been identified by Farhan Lalji as potential landing spots for the backup spot here in B.C.

RBs being dime a dozen has validity. However RBs who are proficient at running the ball, catching it out of the backfield on designed plays, being in the right place when the QB needs a safety valve and being very effective at blocking and picking up the blitz are not dime a dozen.

As for the kid with the Youtube packages I do sympathize to a certain extent. Unfortunately the CFL has to protect their copyrighted material. If they chose to look the other way in this case they'd have to look the other way for everybody. Reminds me of my buddy's now ex-girlfriend a few years back. She loved her knock off designer purses and shoes etc. When her source got busted for selling knock off Gucci and other designer brands she was madder than a wet hen. She couldn't understand why big corporations should care that people are profiting from selling fake versions of their products. She sounded like a coke addict who just had her main source busted for trafficking. What would cool though is if the CFL could find a way to put this kid to work for them.

I get the knock offs or outright thefts is wrong but better thinkers like you have a good idea:
What would be cool though is if the CFL could find a way to put this kid to work for them
.

In other words if the product is not violated and misused say for a porn show or resold for profit or other wrong purposes then why not find ways to encourage it with more ambassadors?

I look at all those tossed-out sports media folks running podcasts or those at 3 Down Nation my go-to source for CFL news as it's easier to find than searching TSN and wonder how they can be helpful in pushing the Lions and CFL.

It's kind of like how all the furniture stores and car dealers massed in certain areas to accommodate shoppers before websites and other tools came along. Location drove traffic to them.

While we're waiting for the CFL FA frenzy, a look back at last year FA day 1:

In reading that article about the kid this morning I had to go back to where it said he was 14 thinking it was a typo or I misread it. His comments throughout it made him come across like he was 24 or 34. Extremely mature and well spoken beyond his apparent years.

Matt Baker does an outstanding job for the Lions with his coverage and stories on the various players. I think BC's website may have the best such content in the CFL. Perhaps a young guy like this could be engaged to put stuff together for the Lions or CFL from a kid's perspective with other kids being the target audience.

Garry Peters is back in the den for two more years. The Lions have announced that the all-star shutdown corner signed an extension through 2024.

RB James Butler and OLs Sukh Chungh and Peter Godber head the list of pending free agents who remain unsigned.

And yet another 2 year deal. By my count 9 of the 11 BC has extended were for 2 years. Roster stability. Gotta like it. Whether it's getting the entire coaching staff back or landing all these 2 year deals it seems like stability is a big priority of Rick & Neil.

Peters takes care of all the important pieces in the secondary. Now to tidy up the loose ends on the OL, Butler, Gwachum and Doll.

no they wouldnt. They have the right to decide on every individual case whether or not they want to do anything about it. They did not have to go after this kid and were very bush to do so
