SSK @ OTT ... I would not be surprised if the Riders win this one on the road.

MTL @ CGY ... Bo Levi has looked less than an All Star lately. But this one goes to Calgary.

TOR @ HAM ... Hmmmm. Can Jones win this one? Sure. The Argos are not world beaters. And Jones has put new life into the TiCats.

WPG @ EDM ... Go Matt. Go Andrew. Go Mike. Go Buck. Go Paul. Go to Edmonton and win. These exhortations make me think of ...

"On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Dunder and Blixem!

A week off for the Leos.
Time for the Riders to go in a massive tailspin.

Carter stops taking his meds because he was targeted once in the Calgary loss and wants to pout....
Chris Jones gets lost on the way to TD Place because he insists on wearing sunglasses when he should be wearing his prescription and can't read the road signs. Plus he has been gaining weight and so doing up the top button on his golf shirt is extra tight and has restricted blood flow to his brain....
Jerome Dennis dies his hair with soylent green instead of regular green by mistake.....
Jeff Hecht gets hired by Breitbart as their "Canuckistan" correspondent....
Gainer the Gopher gets his tailed ripped off for the bounty....
Team bus stalls out on the way to the airport when it is discovered Rod Pedersen stuffs his head into the exhaust pipe but can't remove it...

One can only hope. I miss the Riderville Soap Opera of last year....

Lately the soap opera is over at Eskfans.com where they have something like 3 or 4 meltdown threads going.

No meltdown here at Lionbackers because we know that the refs, the Command Centre, or the league is not to blame. We know that the blame for last place is all at the feet of Wally, "The legend", "The Lion King", and his inept coaching staff.

Standings

Calgary. Defence is the class of the league. Offence not too shabby either, although Bo has looked very ordinary lately. With another team, his star would not shine so brightly.

Winnipeg. Very good results with the offence. Credit LaPo. Overall success, credit O'Shea.

Edmonton. No, Maas. Blowing a gasket does your team no good. Team looking ordinary now. But they have Reilly.

Saskatchewan. On the rise. Jones started slow, but it seems he does know what he is doing.

Toronto. Starting with Ricky Ray, and little else, Trestman is making it work in TO.

BC. Last in the West. From out of the ruins of late, can we make something of the season? The playoffs are a long shot. But ya never know.

Ottawa. Good bet to make the playoffs.

Hamilton. On the rise under the vastly experienced June Jones.

Montreal. Après Popp. Après Jacques. Après Thorpe. Now they have Kavis Reed. This CFL fan hopes the franchise survives le déluge.

SSK vs OTT i will hope for Ottawa.

MTL vs CGY Calgary at home, they win a easy one.

TOR vs HAM Could be close but Toronto takes it.

WPG vs EDM Don't really know but give it to Edmonton because they are at home.

Trevor Harris and Drew Tate could be back for Ottawa on Friday according to the Ottawa Citizen, so maybe the Redblacks do have a chance against the Riders.

CFL Power Rankings: Stamps putting the boots to all comers

By Malcolm Kelly, CBC Sports Posted: Sep 26, 2017 8:30 AM ET| Last Updated: Sep 26, 2017 9:01 AM ET

Here's how I rank the Canadian Football League teams heading into Week 15:

1. Calgary Stampeders (unchanged)
■Record: 11-1-1
■Streak: Won 8
■Next: Montreal

This contest in Saskatchewan was played at a shivering intensity, with hard hits, often hard feelings, and finally exhausted players doing the man-hug with opponents. It was afterwards they went at each other on Twitter. The Stamps' defence held the Riders to just 210 yards of net offence, a week after giving up just 207 to B.C. They sacked Green and White QBs five times, allowing just two points in the first half. And again, the offence did enough to win, finding 355 yards but never pushing one over for a touchdown. Rene Paredes saved the day with five field goals in five tries for all 15 points. We'll keep an eye on this — is the attack a tad tired, or is it running into some trouble? Running back Jerome Messam had 127 yards on the ground. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was 24-for-32, 222 yards as Saskatchewan took away the deep stuff.

2. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (unchanged)
■Record: 9-3
■Streak: Won 2
■Next: At Edmonton

That rain on the edge of the plain fell mainly on the visitors this week as Big Blue ran over the Redblacks to put a four-point hold on second place in the West and a chance to host a playoff game. In that division, hosting means a lot. Watch the highlights and note how often QB Matt Nichols sees man-to-man coverage on his good receiving corps, simply because RB Andrew Harris is such a double-threat. This week he had 83 ground yards on 11 carries, and 49 passing on six catches. Defensive coordinators must leave people around to take care of the runner. Impressive stat: 321 yards on first down, leading to 27 times the chain crew kept moving down the sidelines. Peg's defence was strongly improved, and it will have to be if this club is to make a run at the Grey Cup.

Game Wrap: Bombers cruise to win over Redblacks

Game Wrap: Bombers cruise to win over Redblacks1:25

3. Saskatchewan Roughriders (unchanged)
■Record: 6-6
■Streak: Lost 1
■Next: At Ottawa

This week's 15-9 loss to excellent Calgary was disappointing, but hardly dispiriting. Riders sit two points back of Edmonton for third, won the first between the two and play again in Week 20. At the same time, there might be something of a quarterback controversy brewing, as Kevin Glenn (12-for-19, 127 yards, no scores, one pick) was replaced in the fourth by Canadian Brandon Bridge (6-for-7, 91 yards, one score). The starter might have done better if he hadn't been sacked five times, but he couldn't get the offence within field goal range for three quarters. Overall, they had the ball for just under 24 minutes and if they meet Stamps in the playoffs, that won't be nearly good enough. Ball control needs better than 28 yards from the running game.

4. B.C. Lions (unchanged)
■Record: 6-7
■Streak: Lost 2
■Next: Bye

B.C.'s season average attendance has swayed back and forth for three decades now, from a high of 34,000 or so to lows in the high teens. So it's not news the Leos have lost about 10,000 from the paid house since 2011. Still, it can't be a happy sign that this week's loss to Hamilton in a good football game was played in front of just 18,091. A new owner may be a help (whenever that happens). From a competitive standpoint an ability to finish drives now becomes imperative as not doing so is becoming a habit. Lions took 39 plays to travel 220 yards, using 20:18 of clock to score just 15 points on five field goals. They were 1-for-4 in the red zone, so just the one major. Great for kicker Ty Long, but when you're in a tight game, QB Jonathon Jennings must finish these thrusts.

Late field goal leads Tiger-Cats past Lions1:15

5. Toronto Argonauts (up from 7)
■Record: 6-7
■Streak: Won 2
■Next: At Hamilton

Each season reveals new stars, and one of this year's late arrivals may be James Wilder Jr. The son of a legendary runner with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came to Canada with the hope of restarting an NFL career going nowhere. Mostly a backup this year, he came in after an injury to Brandon Whitaker and has run wild the last two weeks. After 190 on the ground vs. Edmonton, he piled on another 141 vs. Montreal for 341 yards total that is the best two-game mark by an Argo runner as far back as records go. His 475 yards from scrimmage have energized the offensive line, which is suddenly having a great time drive blocking. If Wilder, who has learned to hang onto the ball this year and focus his efforts, keeps this going, Toronto is a Grey Cup contender.

6. Edmonton Eskimos (unchanged, bye)
■ Record: 7-5
■Streak: Lost 5
■Next: Winnipeg

Eskies come out of the bye needing a big win over Winnipeg to stay in the hunt for a home playoff game, and also to stave off charging Saskatchewan. It seems now despite optimistic talk about kicker Sean Whyte (and his 92.9 per cent field-goal mark) coming back this week from a long injury had been premature. Now it may be 50-50 he makes it this year. Next kicker up is Swayze Waters, the league veteran with NFL experience, who signed Monday and immediately made the roster. DB Aaron Grymes is back from down south, and the three-year Eskimo (2013-2015) will be welcome. Offence is fine, but the defence is confused. They give up far too many points while not many yards. They can sack the QB, but not pressure him. They're good against the pass, but can't stop the run.

7. Ottawa Redblacks (down from 5)
■Record: 5-8-1
■Streak: Lost 1
■Next: Saskatchewan

Our defending Grey Cup champions have five wins in 14 games. They feature a third-string quarterback without the experience to run a CFL offence yet. And the defence was worn down in the rain at Winnipeg by a much better team. Ryan Lindley started for Ottawa, and the former NFL starter wasn't up to snuff, going 16-for-36, 151 yards, no scores and a pick. This despite an offensive line that played well, allowing zero sacks and only two pressures. This all produced 10 punts, two fumbles and a missed field goal in the first 13 of 15 possessions. There was nothing doing. Ottawa took 10 penalties, killing momentum when it reared it's rarely seen head. Only four games left (two byes in the final three weeks — completely ridiculous). Defence put up a fight.

8. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (unchanged)
■Record: 3-9
■Streak: Won 1
■Next: Toronto

That's three wins in four games for Hamilton since June Jones took over the sidelines in August. All by QB Jeremiah Masoli, who seems now permanently the starter in front of Zach Collaros. Cats found themselves in a one-pointer, where a single mistake changes a win into a loss, so they kept the errors to a minimum. No giveaways. Just four penalties. Went 2-for-3 in the red zone. On the other hand, Sergio Castillo missed two of five field goals, and the line gave up one more sack than the Leos. Masoli was down two points with 2:00 on the clock when he set out on a 42 yard drive that put Castillo in range for the winning kick. Nice road effort. Kitties are five points back of Ottawa with six to play and a game in hand. And they play one more time. In the CFL, weird stuff happens all the time.

Game Wrap: Argonauts move to 1st in East with win over Alouettes

9. Montreal Alouettes (unchanged)
■Record: 3-10
■Streak: Lost 6
■Next: At Calgary

You can present an argument that two plays sank the Montreal Alouettes in Toronto this week. QB Darian Durant threw one of his three picks to Alden Darby, who ran it back 75 yards for a touchdown. On the other, James Wilder took a handoff and ran through the Larks' defence for an 85 yard TD. That's the 14 point difference. These are the type of explanations losing teams are saddled with when a season has gone south and there's nothing, short of a five game winning streak, that can save the current version. They were down 26-0 before coming to life, and that comes after a week that saw them control the ball for only 19 minutes. Yet, the defence battled against Toronto, holding Ricky Ray to just 182 in the air.

Week 15 CFL picks: Postseason looms

September 25, 2017 11:47pm EDT September 25, 2017 11:47pm EDT Curtis Rush makes his CFL picks for Week 15. Mike Reilly Edmonton Eskimos (John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports)

By Curtis Rush Contributor  @curtisgrush

Published on Sep. 25, 2017

The Week 15 CFL schedule offers some intriguing match-ups as teams scramble to solidify playoff positions while others try to make a run at the postseason before it's too late.

The first-place Calgary Stampeders have already locked up a West Division playoff position, while key divisional battles take place on other fronts in Edmonton and Hamilton.

If the playoffs started today, Saskatchewan would cross over into the East Division to join Toronto and Ottawa in the postseason. Calgary, Winnipeg and Edmonton would qualify in the West. B.C., Hamilton and Montreal would be on the outside looking in.
SASKATCHEWAN (6-6) at OTTAWA (5-8-1), Friday, 7 p.m.

The Riders went toe-to-toe with the Calgary Stampeders last week, and Saskatchewan quarterback Brandon Bridge handled himself well coming in after starting QB Kevin Glenn was hurt. Meanwhile, the Redblacks are struggling with injuries to QBs Trevor Harris and Drew Tate. If the Redblacks are forced to go with Ryan Lindley as starter again, it could get ugly for Ottawa.

The Redblacks need to get Harris back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Pick: Riders by 10.

Previous meeting: This is the first meeting of the season between the Riders and the Redblacks.

Notable stat: The Riders are 3-1 against East Division rivals this season.
MONTREAL (3-10) at CALGARY (11-1-1), Friday, 9:30 p.m.

It seems unbelievable that the Montreal Alouettes, the worst team in the CFL, have been the only team to beat the high-powered Calgary Stampeders this season. The upset back in July evened Montreal's record at 2-2. They've had only one win since then. I don't see another upset here. Not with the limp offense of the Alouettes.

Pick: Stampeders by 10.

Previous meeting: Montreal 30, Calgary 23 on July 14

Notable stat: The Stampeders are allowing a league-low 17.8 points a game on average.
TORONTO (6-7) at HAMILTON (3-9), Saturday, 6:30 p.m.

This should be a very interesting match-up. Both teams are playing at their best and have discovered game-breakers in the backfield. The first-place Argos have a monster in James Wilder Jr., while the Tiger-Cats have unveiled a powerful runner in Alex Green. Hamilton QB Jeremiah Masoli has a mystique about him.

It will be close, but I like the Cats at home.

Pick: Tiger-Cats by 3.

Previous meeting: Hamilton 24, Toronto 22 on Sept. 4. Series is tied 1-1.

Notable stat: Hamilton running back Alex Green gained 140 yards on 13 carries the last game for an average of 10.8 yards a carry. Toronto RB James Wilder Jr. rushed for 141 yards on 10 carries for an average gain of 14.1 yards.
WINNIPEG (9-3) at EDMONTON (7-5), Saturday, 9:30 p.m.

This is the best match-up of the week. You've got two of the premier quarterbacks going against each other in Edmonton's Mike Reilly and Winnipeg's Matt Nichols. I think Edmonton is too good to go down to their sixth straight defeat. The banged-up Eskimos made a couple of nice recent additions by signing all-star defensive back Aaron Grymes after tryouts in the NFL, and kicker Swayze Waters.

Pick: Edmonton by 3.

Previous meeting: Winnipeg 33, Edmonton 26 on Aug. 24

Notable stat: Mike Reilly leads the league with 3,949 passing yards.
John Madden's Team Policies: Be on time. Pay attention. Play like hell on game day.

Jimmy Johnson's Game Keys: Protect the ball. Make plays.

Walter Payton's Advice to Kids: Play hard. Play fair. Have fun.

Pick: Edmonton by 3.

If Swaze Waters hits the field goal!

Should be a dog fight at commonwealth. Andrew Harris was unstoppable last time out. Bombers are due for a reality check.

Pick: Tiger-Cats by 3.

Cats are rolling but the division rivalry says not this time. Hard to see the Argo defenders doing a better job on the new running back but at least they had some film to prepare with. I see the Argos getting it done.

Pick: Stampeders by 10

Think it should read Stamps by 110. Feeling sorry for Drew Willy to draw the start and pray for his safety. Not seeing any hope of a Montreal win.

Pick: Riders by 10

Very possible. Liking the way Sask is looking at guys. Trent Richardson come on down. Riders are better with Thigpen in the lineup. Red Blacks need to get the D going.

Enjoy the games

The Riders have placed their top receiver, Naaman Roosevelt, on the 6-game injured list. That will hurt their playoff hopes but I don't see them losing to a banged-up Ottawa team.

SSK @ OTT

Week 15 arrives at the intersection of two teams on the inside looking out of the playoff bubble. The REDBLACKS and Riders are both in a post-season position, yet neither is comfortable heading into a cross-division clash on Friday night at TD Place.

While Ryan Lindley makes his second career start as Drew Tate and Trevor Harris continue to mend, the Riders hope Kevin Glenn and Duron Carter are healthy enough to lead them on a late-season run.

PICK
Writers: 86% Saskatchewan
Fans: 84% Saskatchewan
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MTL @ CGY

The Alouettes and Stampeders are two teams headed in opposite directions. The Als have been outscored 207-89 throughout their six-game losing streak, losing by an average margin of 35-15, while the Stampeders have won nine straight games and 16 in a row on home turf.

While the numbers suggest Calgary should win handily, there’s a caveat: The Stamps are 3-4 against the Als since the start of 2014, including their one and only loss this season. Can the Als pull off the upset of the year?

PICK:
Writers: 100% Calgary
Fans: 97% Calgary
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOR @ HAM

After averaging 65.4 rushing yards through the first 11 games, the Argos’ ground game spiked the last two weeks, totaling 385 yards. Has the emergence of James Wilder Jr. and a dangerous rushing attack has made the Boatmen a legitimate threat to win the Grey Cup?

We’ll know more on Saturday, when two surging teams decide their season series. While an Argos victory would help secure the East, they’ve yet to win at Tim Hortons Field. Meanwhile, the Ticats have won three of four under June Jones and Jeremiah Masoli, including their win on Labour Day.

PICK

WPG @ EDM

It’s hard to pick a more defining game than Saturday’s Winnipeg-Edmonton clash, which will either drastically simplify or complicate the West Division playoff picture.

Regardless of who’s slumping and who’s surging — the Eskimos have lose five straight and the Bombers have won seven of eight — there’s plenty on the line in this week’s marquee matchup.

The RedBlacks are doing the Lions a big favour as they are pitching a shutout against the Riders, 11-0 at half.

William Powell is shredding the Riders defence with his third straight 100yd game. And there is still a half to go.

Kevin Glenn is looking decidedly off.....

Jaime Elizondo is taking Chris Jones' defence to school. And with their 3rd string QB.

Rider run defence looking very pedestrian. Whole defence looks tired halfway through the 3rd with their hands on their hips and their jerseys moving in amd out like a bellows.

Hope the RedBlacks really do them in....
