CGY @ TOR ... Take Calgary. Their program is well established. Trestman and Ray bring respectability to Toronto.
WPG @ OTT ... One would think, take Ottawa. Dunno. O'Shea has the Bombers playing very tough.
HAM @ EDM ... Take Edmonton. However, this is the CFL. Austin did not suddenly become a stupid coach. But he does seem to have issues.
SSK @ BC ... Take the Lions, right? LOL Who knows? Gotta luv our players. Guts. Talent at QB, RB, WR. Steward and Husband in the OL. Athletic DBs. Solly. Long. But we have some personnel issues. And we have the issues with systems and game preparation that go back forever.

Edmonton. 5 - 0. Credit to Maas. The Schmos are for real. Reilly is killing it. Benny is doing a nice job on defence with his zone and a good front four.
Calgary. Right there to the end. Pretty much excellent in all respects. Dickenson and Maas typify the new, young, hard working, digging into the film, outstanding game prep Head Coaches in the CFL. Put O'Shea and Campbell in there too as young guys. For the older set Trestman and Chapdelaine do a nice job also in game prep. IMO ...
BC. We have some serious talent. QB. WR. RB. Solly. Athletic DBs. Some good OL, led by Steward and Husband. But we are getting beat on game preparation, IMO. Some questionable personnel moves in the off season.
Winnipeg. O'Shea (along with Maas) has made a very strong impression on this long-time CFL fan. O'Shea loves his STs, and it shows. Very crafty. Studies the film. Creative. His guys play with extreme movivation. Nichols has thrived under O'Shea and LaPolice.
Saskatchewan. Jones needs to finish strong this year. Kevin Glenn is doing yeoman duty once again. (I like Glenn. If Jones and Glenn were to win the Grey Cup, Glenn could walk right into the Hall of Fame. Ya never know.)

Toronto. In good shape with Trestman and Ray. Trestman's style suits the CFL. His understanding of the game is absolutely top level.
Montreal. This CFL fan is rooting for Jacques. IMO they do not have top level talent, but are playing well. Thorpe has the D playing pretty well, as usual.
Ottawa. I cannot think that they have slid that much from their Grey Cup year. Teams are gearing up to play them. I expect they will be OK.
Hamilton. It's all about Kent Austin. And that is something of a mystery. He has emotional turbulence it seems to me. Bad for a team. But, he knows the game. He knows talent. What happens in Hamilton will be all about how he deals with adversity.
.............
Just IMO. Some snapshot impressions, rather than do ratings.

CALGARY (4-1-1) at TORONTO (3-3), Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Calgary is firing on all cylinders, and a different hero seems to emerge each game. Last week it was return man Roy Finch, who lit a fuse under Calgary with a 97-yard punt return TD. Don't look for another rout. But Toronto would do well to keep this close. The running game of Toronto is drying up and that should be a concern for Argo fans. Despite Ricky Ray's success at QB, Toronto's offence hasn't broken 30 points since Week 1 and it lacks efficiency in the red zone. On defence, the team has been saddled with key injuries to defensive linemen Victor Butler and Cleyon Laing. Pick: Calgary 33, Toronto 24

WINNIPEG (3-2) at OTTAWA (1-4-1), Friday, 7 p.m.
This is the hardest pick of the week. This one could be a shootout between Winnipeg's Matt Nichols and Ottawa's Trevor Harris. The latter leads the league with 12 TD passes and Greg Ellingson leads the league in yards through the air. Winnipeg may be on a roll here, and Ottawa is sputtering, but I'm picking Ottawa in this one, mostly because it is coming off a bye week and will be well rested. Winnipeg's defence continues to be a concern. No Houdini efforts by the Bombers this time. Pick: Ottawa 38, Winnipeg 36
HAMILTON (0-5) at EDMONTON (5-0), Friday, 9:30 p.m.
This could be downright ugly again for Hamilton. The Ticats can't help but to be psychologically crushed by what happened against Calgary in a 60-1 rout, and speculation is growing that Kent Austin could be fired as coach if fortunes don't turn around. The dreadful play of Zach Collaros must be considered the most stunning turn of events in the CFL this season. It won't get better this week. The wounded Tabbies face an Edmonton team that actually could be better than the Stampeders. At the very least, we should see of what the Ticats are made. Pick: Edmonton 30, Hamilton 18
SASKATCHEWAN (2-3) at B.C. LIONS (4-2), Saturday, 7 p.m.
I think the B.C. Lions are too good to lose two in a row, although I think the Saskatchewan Roughriders will give them a good run. Kevin Glenn is getting better at ball protection. He hasn't thrown an interception in two games and spectacular wide receiver Duron Carter can win a game all by himself with one-handed catches using the back of his hand if he chooses. Pick: B.C. 26, Saskatchewan 24

June Jones has a helluva resume, as both a QB and a coach. This has to be seen as a good move for the TiCats and for the league.TheLionKing wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2017 5:23 pmJune Jones join Ti-Cats

Whatever ails the TiCats, it seems to me that it is about Kent Austin. His first 3 years as Head Coach in the CFL were amazing. Grey Cup title in Regina in 2007. Finalist in Grey Cup in 2013 and 2014.
Austin has not stayed in one place very long as a coach. One gets the impression that he might have a best before date. He has been snarly with the media. He bumped a former player, then with another team, on the sideline. He seems to have very thin skin. At times his face and manner show huge contempt for the media. Dunno if he "loses" the players after a time. Collaros looked like the second coming of Doug Flutie for a while. Not so much anymore. Dunno about Austin. This CFL fan would rather see him succeed than fail.
Jones provides a safety net of sorts for the TiCats. His resume is very deep and impressive. He should help at least with the offensive Xs and Os, although I do not think Xs and Os are the problem in Hamilton.
Just IMO ...

Stampeders leading the Argos 17-7 in the 2nd quarter in an entertaining game. Roy Finch returned a punt 103 yards for a touchdown.

Calgary has increased their lead 34-13 after the 3rd quarter. Ricky Ray out of the game with what appears to be a shoulder injury

A tough night in Toronto on several levels. An announced crowd of 11,616 fans at BMO Field (which has to be one of the all-time smallest crowds in a regular CFL stadium in recent years) see their team badly beaten, and, worse, their future Hall-of-Fame quarterback injured. Marc Trestman really has his work cut out for him now. We can hope Ray's injury isn't too serious.
The latest on Ray's injury
https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/toront ... 22328.html
"Just a little sore," Ray said after the game, Toronto's third in 11 nights. "I took a shot in the (right) arm there, and it was aching a bit."
I noticed he stayed in uniform and didn't leave the sidelines for the rest of the game, but that doesn't mean it's not potentially serious. The look on his face said a lot. His interaction with Trestman on the sidelines (who kept going over and asking him if he was okay) indicates it was Ray's choice to stay on the bench.
The TSN panel said there has been a cumulative effect of hard hits on Ray over the past 4 games--it was only a matter of time before this happened.
It was fun watching Fajardo running around in relief (but I'm not sure he's going to win many games).
