Doesn't it seem strange that many of the regular Grey Cup festivities are not part of the Grey Cup festival website yet? Not a single Team hospitality suite is listed on there, including the Lions own Lions Den. Touchdown Manitoba not listed, Rendezvous Regina missing, no word on the grand daddy of them all Spirit of Edmonton, what about the Calgary Stampede pancake breakfast, Touchdown Atlantic, etc? I have even seen tweets about CFL cheer teams practicing and getting ready for the Cheer Extravaganza, but there is nothing listed on the Festival website about it.

And I haven't even touched on some of the non-traditional non-affiliated parties and events that usually transpire around Grey Cup.

Is there some ultra-secret thing going on that fans aren't allowed to know about? Or is this going to be the lamest Grey Cup in quite a few years? Heck even on the Festival website most of the "events" they have listed, have no description as to what they are... This is the latest that I have not heard details on events since '99.

Anyone got some info on events - please post here.
Now that I don't live in Quesnel do I need to change my handle??

Totally agree, I was trying to find info on the hospitality rooms and it is hard to do. If you search 'Spirit of Edmonton' you will find their info as to where, when and what. So far, that is the only one I can find.

VANCOUVER -- Moray Keith, Chair of the 2011 Grey Cup Festival Committee revealed plans today surrounding the 2011 Grey Cup Festival coming to Vancouver November 24th -27th, 2011.

Citizens of Vancouver, British Columbians and football fans from across the country will be treated to four days of celebration and events including a parade, street festival, family zone and two concert series. Also on hand for the announcement were the seven premier partners of the Grey Cup Festival; Molson Canadian, PlayNow.com (BCLC), Safeway Canada, Scotiabank, TELUS, The Vancouver Sun and the Vanier Cup Championship.

“Grey Cup week promises to be one of the biggest sporting events, and celebrations to ever hit Vancouver,” said Keith. “We have put together an unbelievable organizing team made up of some Vancouver’s most prominent business leaders to deliver a top notch Festival the whole family can enjoy.”

2011 Grey Cup Festival events get started Thursday, Nov. 24 with the Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards and Blakes After-Party both happening at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

The 2011 Grey Cup Festival, coined Raise the Roof in reference to the newly refurbished BC Place, will kick into high gear Friday, Nov. 25 when Canada’s top university football teams compete in the 47th annual Vanier Cup Championship.

Starting Nov. 25 and running through Sunday, Nov. 27 on Beatty and Robson streets will be the TELUS StreetFest, featuring 17 free concerts on the PlayNow.com Main Stage and daily football fun on the CN Field.

Fans are encouraged to visit the Vancouver Convention Centre West to take in the free Scotiabank Football Experience or enjoy live entertainment in the 90,000 square foot Molson Canadian House. The Scotiabank Show Your Colours Gala will be held later that night at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Families will have fun visiting the Nissan Family Zone at Jack Poole plaza including three days of entertainment on the Canadian Direct stage. Saturday, November 26th will be highlighted by the Safeway Grey Cup Festival Parade, which will see more than 40 floats and community groups from organizations throughout Canada touring the streets of downtown and finishing at The Vancouver Sun FanFest in the Nissan Family Zone.

“Hosting the Grey Cup is a tremendous economic opportunity and a time for families and friends to celebrate a truly Canadian championship,” said Premier Christy Clark. “The events wouldn’t be possible without the hundreds of volunteers who donate their spirit and time to the success of the Grey Cup Festival and make sure that everyone has a time to remember.”

“This year's Grey Cup Festival is shaping up to be the best one yet, and we're very excited to welcome it back to Vancouver in our 125th anniversary year,” said Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. “With four days of festivals, concerts and family events, the 2011 Grey Cup Festival promises something for everyone, and is not to be missed.”

“The Grey Cup is not just a game but a tradition that burns bright in the hearts of Canadians,” said Daryn Medwid, Sales Director, Western Canada, Molson Coors Canada. “As long standing supporters and passionate football fans, our role is to provide greater opportunities for fans to experience the best of Grey Cup Festival weekend, both in BC and across the rest of Canada.”

“The most celebrated event in Canadian football deserves an equally exciting festival, an event football fans in our city won’t want to miss. As a premier Grey Cup partner, TELUS and its more than 6,000 team members across Metro Vancouver are thrilled to bring the 2011 TELUS StreetFest to our city,” says Jill Schnarr, vice-president, Community Investment, TELUS.

“In addition, we will be supporting Prostate Cancer Canada and the Prostate Canada Fight Foundation. Fans will be able to pick up a wrist-band at the Festival and for every wrist-band scanned on-site, TELUS will make a $5 donation that will be shared between these two wonderful charities.”

Drawing upon TELUS technology and the power of smartphone and tablet devices, the 2011 Grey Cup Festival will be more accessible than ever before. Festival attendees will be able to get the latest information on events, schedules and contests from their mobile device whether they’re in the stands at BC Place, at home, or on the go.

For more information about the TELUS StreetFest and other festival events, please visit the Grey Cup Festival mobile web app at m.2011greycupfestival.ca.

"The Grey Cup. Some things need no explanation, they are iconic, yet they do mean so many things to so many different people.” said Colin Brown, COO of Canadian Direct Insurance.

“Being involved in the 2011 Grey Cup Festival is our way of telling Vancouver, BC and the rest of Canada that we are proud supporters of a great Canadian tradition and are committed community partners. We look forward to showing the rest of Canada how the west can do it!"

For the first time in Grey Cup history the CIS Vanier Cup Championship game will be played in BC – Friday, November 25th at the newly re-furbished BC Place. As a special for customers, select Safeway stores will offer retail family-priced Vanier Cup tickets for only $17 (taxes and fees included) while supplies last.

A limited number of tickets to the Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards and Blakes After-Party, as well as a special 3-day front-of-the-line passes to Molson Canadian House are also available for sale. To purchase tickets, please visit http://www.2011greycupfestival.ca or call 1-855-GREYCUP (855-473-9287).

The 99th annual Grey Cup Championship will kick off Sunday, Nov. 27th. This remarkable game is the largest sporting event in Canada. A celebration of sport and culture, the Grey Cup is uniquely Canadian and has a storied history and deep traditions. The 2011 Grey Cup Festival, Raise the Roof, will be distinctly Canadian with lots of West Coast feel.

Hell we don't need a website to tell you to find a lineup, stand in it, get drunk and slap a rider fan upside the head.

It is pretty easy to me, and the formula never changes.

Anyone know what's going on for the halftime show this year? I remember the year Blue Rodeo played, they announced that on the Thanksgiving weekend, but here we are in November already and I haven't heard anything :S
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

I've been wondering about this as well. I think it may just mean that a big name group is what they're angling for, and details are still being worked out.

Cheers,

James

More proof that Wikipedia is not accurate. At least now it's updated.
