Who is Mike Reilley???? Mike Beamish wrote an article on Mike Reilly, which provides background on our newest third string quarterback. Reilly was added to the starting roster, with the release of Printers. Reilley played Division 11 football and had a few unsuccessful tryouts in the NFL.

Reilly seems like another prototype for the Chap offence-an accurate underneath passer

Here are some exerpts from the Beamish article.

When head coach Wally Buono released Casey Printers a couple of weeks ago, many B.C. Lions fans wondered if the team even had another quarterback to replace him.

Travis Lulay they knew. Jarious Jackson. Of course. But Mike Reilly? His name sounded vaguely familiar, like a former head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who had moved on to Oregon State.

In truth, (Radar) Reilly has been with the Lions for three months now. A well-traveled NFL journeyman who now gets to travel with the team following his elevation to third-string status, Reilly is hoping to stay right where he is for the time being. If he never plays a down this season, it’s all right with him.

Champion was one of a number of quarterbacks in a development role who ultimately withered on the vine with the Lions. Do the names Giovanni Carmazzi, Todd Mortensen or Gino Guidugli ring a bell?Is he destined to follow them out the door?

“At this point, Mike is no different than any of them,” Buono admits. “Until they get into a game, unfortunately you can’t really say what you have and you don’t have, But the thing about Mike is, he’s had a tremendous internship. In training camp next year, there’s no reason why he can’t show his true self.

“Zac Champion didn’t have what Travis Lulay has. Mike has more of what Travis has. He has a presence. Mike has a mental maturity beyond his years. He’s poised beyond his years. And he’s a very accurate thrower.”

Undrafted by the NFL, he went from the Steelers to the Packers to the Rams to the Seahawks before landing with the CFL Lions on July 26.

“Reilly is a little different than some of the guys we’ve had here before,” says Jackson, a former Denver Broncos third-stringer who’s been with the Lions since 2005. “He’s had an opportunity to bounce around the NFL. He knows more from an Xs and Os standpoint than some of those guys did. He’s a young quarterback [25] at almost the same stage where Travis was when he came in last year. And look where Travis is now?”
"When I went to Catholic high school in Philadelphia, we just had one coach for football and basketball. He took all of us who turned out and had us run through a forest. The ones who ran into the trees were on the football team". (George Raveling)

Actually, Reilly has very good arm strength and has no problem effectively throwing deep. Ask anyone in Ellensburg.

Saw some of him in college. I like him also and am mystified he isn't at least on an NFL practice squad.
