As a Lions fan newly relocated south of the 49th, I'm interested in seeing how many Lionbackers are in the same boat (or country) as me. From reading the site over the years I know there are a bunch, so would be great to hear from you...
Most importantly, I'm looking for the best way to get Lions games (ideally TSN) down here without having to worry right until game time whether or not it will actually be on. I haven't ordered any cable or satellite service here yet, so ideally I could get one subscription that would provide local channels, standard cable networks, AND CFL games or TSN.

Hi BC16. If you figure something out, please let me know. I will be in Seattle on the weekend of Sept 13/14 to attend the Huskies/Oklahoma game on the Saturday and the Seahawks/49ers game on the Sunday. Unfortunately, the Lions host Sask. that night and I really want to watch that game too, so let me know!bclions16 wrote:As a Lions fan newly relocated south of the 49th, I'm interested in seeing how many Lionbackers are in the same boat (or country) as me. Thanks!
Lions4ever: I'll let you know what I come up with here. I've found it tough to ever get a game on at a bar down here. Perhaps if I knew the satellite or carrier info better I could direct a puzzled bartender to the right channel. I hope by the time the season starts I'm the go-to expert for finding CFL broadcasts in the states. But that will require learnings from other Lionbackers and some more research!
I did find free web streaming of games quite regularly last year when I was visiting the states, but poor quality of course, and probably unauthorized.

Find a north of the border friend with whom you can split a Star Choice or BEX subscription.
Order the hardware via eBay.
Install and split the bill, paying your version via Pay Pal, to taste.
I'm assured by people who do it that it works fine. *ahem*
Alternately, you may consider that DishTV's HDTV channel shows FNF, I think, in Hi Def only. One thing I can conclusively tell you is that there is a 0% chance that the cable schedule that the CFL will provide on their website this summer will be a close to accurate reflection as to what is really broadcast. Don't waste your time thinking the Comcast Northwest schedule or FSN Northwest game schedule will be accurate.
Don't waste time begging for games. Split a North of 40 subscription with whichever Dish company carries Seattle (or Spokane) locals.

Excellent advice, that's the route I was thinking of taking, but good to know someone that... knows someone that does it!cromartie wrote:Find a north of the border friend with whom you can split a Star Choice or BEX subscription.

What do you mean by "split" a subscription? One subscription can be shared by two sets of hardware? Or I suppose I could just order it to a Canadian address and bring it down with me on one of my many trips.

One of the members of this board works for BEX, so I don't want to be disrespectful.bclions16 wrote:Excellent advice, that's the route I was thinking of taking, but good to know someone that... knows someone that does it!cromartie wrote:Find a north of the border friend with whom you can split a Star Choice or BEX subscription.

I'd be glad to discuss it further with you via PM.

I'd love you to say it to my face because you'd only say it once...if you ever had the courage to say it at all!! Blitz, 05/24/2008
Oh geeze, hope this new guy here (me) hasn't upset anyone over this. I'm happy paying for a Canadian subscription, but now the problem is that the Canadian dish services don't have FoxSport Northwest for Mariners games!
I just wish a US service could pick up TSN - is there any other way???

Ahhh... might be a good idea. I should have thought of that considering the months of constant ads on 1040. Anyone have thoughts or experience on the picture quality?Soundy wrote:
I read a review, as it displays on a pc it looks good for travel etc, but I'm really going to need full HD etc to survive down here as the lone CFL fan.
Thanks for the tip Soundy.

Well, it may not be HD, but it definitely falls into the "better than nothing" category :Dbclions16 wrote:I read a review, as it displays on a pc it looks good for travel etc, but I'm really going to need full HD etc to survive down here as the lone CFL fan.

I wish I had something positive to tell you but when the Leos beat the Evil Empire 24-18 at Commonwealth last season, I was traveling with family who wanted to try their luck at one of Washington State's fine casinos before heading home. IIRC that was an afternoon game, so I figured it's a casino which means they might have the game on TV. I found a quiet area (the bar hadn't opened there yet) with a bank of TV sets, and one of the staff kindly let me use the remote to surf the channels, but alas, there was no CFL feed to be found.
I was finally able to pick up a scratchy signal from 1040 on the car radio out in the parking lot so I heard the last few minutes of the game. You might have to settle for Soundy's suggestion for your BC Lions/CFL fix.
