Congratulations are in order to the Kelly Scott rink of Kelowna who restored Canada to its rightful place atop the world's curling hierarchy with a decisive 8-4 triumph over Denmark in the gold medal game at the women's world championship in Aomori, Japan Sunday. Well done ladies!

Best of luck also to the Glenn Howard team to match the feat on the men's side next month in Edmonton!
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Actually they lost their last round robin game to Scotland but no matter, they got the gold and that's all that matters.

The CBC is reairing the game right now -- the first end is about to start as I type this.
