If for no other reason than "the play" in the '77 playoff game, it has to be Joe...

I had a great seat for that. Se. W Row 29 Seat 11, and Mike Holmes was soooo open. Joe suffered a concussion in the second quarter of that game, and to this day can't remember the play.

The only "leap" to even come close would be Ray Alexander's block of a Mark McLoughlin FG attempt in the 1994 Western Final in the snow.

Won't change my vote if DMac is on there.

Could you imagine how little complaining we would do about the CB's if Andre Francis was back there today???
Now that I don't live in Quesnel do I need to change my handle??

For those of us that were too young, what was 'the play' back in '77.

Western Semi. Our Lions coming off their first winning regular season in years (10-6 record - lots of those victories coming in the dying minutes). First home playoff game since '63 Grey Cup. Playing the hated Bombers in the pouring rain at Empire stadium.

Leos clinging to a 33-32 lead in the final minute. Ralph Brock, the cannon armed QB for the Bombers fades back and finds a wide open Mike Holmes streaking down the field. It looks like a sure TD to send the hometown crowd home disappointed.

Suddenly out of nowhere comes #14 in orange with black trim, jumping what seemed like 6 feet in the air to knock the pass down. The crowd was delirious, the Bombers stunned and the 33-32 lead was preserved. Onto Edmonton for the Western Final.

But we won't re-live that.... :sigh:

Don't you mean "Dieter" Brock?

Strangely he went by two names. Initially he was Ralph Brock but later changed it to Dieter Brock. I'm pretty sure he was still Ralph in '77.

Whatever.

Everytime I see McMannus to Flutie in the '94 Western Final, I still get goosebumps. I already voted for Andre Francis for #1. Danny Mac it is. I didn't start watching football till about '87, so that is my bias.

Every time I hear the name "Dieter", I think of Mike Myers doing "Sprockets" on Saturday Night Live. I remember Brock's name change as a kid, and being completely perplexed as to why someone would change their name. I still didn't understand it as an adult when Prince changed his name to the chemical symbol for molybdinum...

Here's Dieter today. (Nice rug -- check out the orange dye job!)
