Apparently, according to an email I got last night, one of these mini-helmets will be handed out free to the first 10,000 fans at the preseason game tomorrow night. Not sure how it'll work; if they hand them out right away or as per previous promos like this where they give out vouchers when you walk in and then you pick up the swag after the game.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

This giveaway is confirmed here: http://www.bclions.com/game-day

The first 10,000 fans through the gates receive the first in a series of four commemorative mini-helmets courtesy of Save-On-Foods.

I guess it's not all that important as to whether you get the item right away or if you get a voucher for it.

It is, from two points of view. For the team, these helmets represent potential projectiles for unruly fans to throw around, either elsewhere in the stands or onto the field. For the responsible fan, it may be cumbersome to have to hold onto it for three hours or so during the game. In both cases, vouchers are the better plan.

:bang: Ugly rumour heard last night at the game. These mini helmets for the Team that is the supposed "Pride of ALL BC" are only available in lower mainland save-on-food stores. :bang:

If it makes you feel any better, I live in the LM but I can't really get these free helmets either because I would have to buy foods that fall outside my dietary restrictions.

Sometimes life sucks.

As president of the republic of meat-eaters (lower mainland division) I'll see if I can hook you both up.

I'm pretty sure if you just asked at the customer counter they'd give or sell you one, though. And in PG they'd probably be willing to bring some in.

Cheers,

James
Actually I'm not too hung up on getting these helmets, so no need to go out of your way on my account.

By the way, I'm NOT a vegetarian, in case you were wondering (although I suppose that category of fan would be shut out as well).

Also worth pointing out, SOF has an ongoing contest to give away a full set of the helmets. There's a link on the page that James linked in the OP. No harm in entering:

Got one from yesterday's game. Frankly, they're cheap trinkets. It's just a small plastic shell resembling a football helmet.

I own two mini-helmets, the current white helmet from the last home game, and the orange helmet (replica of the 2006 Grey Cup victory) a friend got me from Save-On. Note, you don't have to buy the chicken or burgers or what have you. They can be purchased from Save-On for $6.99 each.

I'm not too worried about getting them 9I have more than enough crap in my living room now), but what bugs me about promos like these is that here we have two organizations that talk about being BC organizations and neither one of them are recognizing the marketplace outside of the lower mainland. We have 4 Save on Foods stores in PG, 0 safeways, 1 Superstore, 1 Walmart food store and our target has a small smattering of food as well. So Save on Foods thinks there is a big enough market here to have 4 stores in this community, but not enough to bring in Lions promos, when they do bring in Canucks promos.

Then there are the Lions. Don't get me started on that stupid "Pride of All BC" slogan they chant but do nothing about. This is yet another slap in the face of that slogan, unless ALL BC only means the lower mainland. There are people up here who are wanting to get Lions items and are fans of the Lions. I have seen the amount of Lions merchandise increase in stores around town (Princess Auto had Lions socks and mitts, Target has Lions clothing and Walmart has brought in Lions merchandise as well, not to mention Jersey City as the main supplier in town). These mini helmets would be a good promo for kids up here who are fans or want to be fans of the Lions. This is just yet another disappointment on the "BC" Lions marketing division. If they want to be the "Pride of ALL BC" then they should remember that in all they do. (don't get me started on their twitter account)

Thought I posted a reply today from my phone but it isnt here anymore...hmmmm...

I wanted to get the mini helmets as well being I was at the pre season game when they handed out the first one and got it so thought I would complete the set...I went into 2 different SOF in the Kelowna area and neither store knew anything about them...I was very annoyed that they would advertise that you could pick them up at your local store and that wasnt the case...So I went to SOF website, did an email to them telling them of my situation and that I wasnt happy that they only made them available in the Lower Mainland especially when they put them in their flyers that went out across BC...I received a phone call the next day asking me what store I would like them to send a set to....I had them about 4 days later, with a 2013 Canucks playoff towel included...lol

Tim Hortons does the same thing, we dont get the BC Lions Tim Cards here or the football doughnuts either...but the funny thing is my local Tims is carrying the Blue Jays Tim Cards...go figure!

That's because the CFL thread was hacked.
