FLEMING, WILLIE, Elected as a Player, May 28, 1982. Willie The Wisp earned All-Western All-Star honours three times and All-Canadian Team recognition once. He is the first CFLer to rush for a career mark in excess of seven yards per carry and in 1963 he rushed for a 9.7-yard average as the Lions reached their first Grey Cup Game.

Elected into the CFL Hall of Fame on May 28, 1982.

One of the finest running backs ever to play in Canada, the Detroit native was a member of the Rose Bowl winning 1959 Iowa team. The unbelievable Willie "Will o the Wisp" Fleming set a pro football rushing record which stands to this day. In 1963 he carried the ball 127 times for 1,234 yards for an incredible 9.7 yard per carry average. He gained more than 1,000 yards seven straight seasons (rushing and receiving). In 1960 he scored 18 touchdowns for 109 points. He helped the Lions to the Grey Cup twice in 1963 and 1964 and retired in 1967 as one of the legends of the CFL.
