MTL @ HAM ... Take HAM. Kavis gets no wins.

WPG @ CGY ... Peg not looking too good. Banged up. Take CGY in ticked off mood.

EDM @ SSK ... Take SSK. The Jones boy has the Riders playing tough. Could be a good game.

TOR @ BC ... Take BC. We seem to be out of a funk. But we could just as easily get right back into one.

By the numbers ...

1 CGY ... Not going to lap the field. SSK beat them. EDM beat them. Take that, Dickie.

2 EDM ... On the rise. Defence no great shakes aside from a very good front four.

3 WPG ... Talent not at the top level, IMO. Injuries. Maximized their schedule. Well coached.

4 SSK ... Could be #2. But the record says otherwise for the year.

5 OTT ... Getting better after a poor start to the year.

6 TOR ... Pretty much a toss up with Ottawa for tops in the East.

7 BC ... More wins than Hamilton. But HAM just might beat us if we played again.

8 HAM ... They have looked very good under June Jones. I hope he returns. Or how about offering him any position he wants in B.C.?

9 MTL ... Kavis Reed, GM. Kavis Reed, Head Coach. 'Nuff said.

Mike O’Shea says Matt Nichols isn’t expected to play Friday for the Bombers in Calgary. He wouldn’t say Monday whether Andrew Harris was expected to play. It looks like the Bombers are leaving their hopes for a home playoff game in the hands of the Riders, but it’s probably wise to try to have both players rested and healthy for the playoffs.

MONTREAL (3-14) at HAMILTON (5-12), Friday, 7 p.m.

This is a nothing game, with both teams having failed to make the postseason. Hamilton is by far the better team. The Alouettes will likely give QB Matthew Shiltz a serious look. Hamilton will want to finish on a high in front of its proud hometown fans. This is the second meeting of the season between the teams.

Pick: Hamilton by 7

Previous meeting: Hamilton 43-16, Oct. 22

Notable stat: In his last two games, Hamilton QB Jeremiah Masoli has passed for six touchdowns and given up no interceptions.
June Jones
WINNIPEG (11-6) at CALGARY (13-3-1), Friday, 9:30 p.m.

Winnipeg will sit out the injured quarterback Matt Nichols, turning the ball over to back-up QB Dominique Davis. Running back Andrew Harris will play after suffering an injury late in the game last week. The Bombers are banged up and miss receiver Darvin Adams. The Stampeders will look to end a two-game slide and reclaim some momentum. They can't possibly lose three straight. Can they? This is the second meeting of the season.

Pick: Calgary by 7

Previous meeting: Calgary 29-10, July 7

Notable stat: Calgary has lost its last two games by margins of 23 and 9 points.
Go Winnipeg. Faint hope?
EDMONTON (11-6) at SASKATCHEWAN (10-7), Saturday, 7 p.m.

The most important game of the week. This is the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Edmonton is the hottest team in the league, having won four straight. The Riders also have a hot hand, having won two of three. They've also held the opposition to only 19 points over the past two games. With an Edmonton win and a Winnipeg loss or tie, the Eskimos would clinch second place and host the West semifinal. The Riders would cross over and play the East semifinal against either Toronto or Ottawa.

Pick: Edmonton by 3

Previous meeting: Saskatchewan 54-31, Aug. 25

Notable stat: Brandon Bridge has thrown three interceptions in his last two games. Kevin Glenn has thrown none.
I don't like either team. Maas is crazy. Jones is building a team in his own image. And that is a bit scary. I like Kevin Glenn though.
TORONTO (8-9) at B.C. (7-10), Saturday, 10 p.m.

A Toronto win or a tie and the Argonauts would clinch first place in the East and host the East final on Nov. 19. If the Argos lose, Ottawa would clinch first place, sending Toronto to the East semifinal against the crossover team from the West. Toronto is coming off a bye, and the Lions are coming off an explosive win against Winnipeg. The Argos don't do well on the road (2-6) or against the West (2-7). This is the second meeting of the season. I think the Lions upset the Argos.

Pick: Lions by 3

Previous meeting: B.C. 28-15, June 30

Notable stat: B.C. QB Jonathon Jennings is coming off a brilliant game in which he passed for a season-high 408 yards and four touchdowns.
Yes. A brilliant game from Jennings.

EDM This Week: 1 | Last Week: 3

Edmonton is getting hot at the purrfect time as we head into the final week of the season. Adarius Bowman has finally found his footing in 2017 and the addition of C.J. Gable late in the season proved to be a great move as the Esks head into playoffs. This week, the Eskimos have a chance of taking over second place in the West and hosting a playoff game with a win (and a Winnipeg loss).

SSK This Week: 2 | Last Week: 2

The Roughriders remain in the same position as last week thanks to a win over the Montreal Alouettes. This week the Riders host the Eskimos and with a win they will clinch third place in the West.

This Week: 3 | Last Week: 1

CGY Calgary dropped their second game in a row as the team’s offence continues to struggle to put points on the board. A team can only be carried by their defence for so long which means Bo Levi Mitchell and co. need to find the spark that helped the team to 13 wins so far this season when they host the Blue Bombers in the final week of the year.

This Week: 4 | Last Week: 4

TOR Coming off a Week 19 bye, the Argonauts will be looking for one final win to end the regular season. A win for the Argos and they will host the Eastern Final. It’ll be tough for the Boatmen, however, as they head to BC to take on a Lions team that isn’t going out without a fight.

This Week: 5 | Last Week: 6

OTT With a win in Week 19 over the Ticats, the REDBLACKS moved into first in the East Division. Now the team’s fate rests in the hands of the Argos as Ottawa heads out into a Week 20 bye. They will be watching the Argonauts and Lions game closely and if Toronto loses, they will host the East Final.

This Week: 6 | Last Week: 5

WPG Injuries are rippling through the Blue Bombers roster – first it was Maurice Leggett, Jamaal Westerman, Darvin Adams and Timothy Flanders. After Week 19, Matt Nichols and Andrew Harris were both added to that list. Winnipeg’s depth will be tested as they head to Calgary to take on the Stampeders this week.

This Week: 7 | Last Week: 7

HAM While the Tiger-Cats are eliminated from the post-season, they still gave the REDBLACKS a run for their money last week. In the last week of the season, will we see depth players get reps? Or will the starting lineup continue to play?

This Week: 8 | Last Week: 8

BC Jonathon Jennings looked like the Jonathon Jennings we all got to know last season in Week 19 as the pivot tossed for 408 yards and four touchdowns on route to his team’s win over the Blue Bombers. This week the Lions host the Argonauts as they look to play spoiler against a team looking to take over first in the East Division.

This Week: 9 | Last Week: 9

MTL In their final contest of 2017, the Montreal Alouettes head to Hamilton to take on the Tiger-Cats. The Alouettes are another team that could rest their starters and instead play depth guys to get a look towards the future.
...........

Not so sure about EDM and SSK above CGY. But they did both beat the Stampeders recently.

Humble pie for us. As high as #2 earlier this year. And now down at the bottom with only the Alouettes beneath us.

Are we that bad? Methinks our talent is good, with some soft spots. Methinks our coaching philosophy is outdated and outmatched. We changed some stuff up this past game, and I think it showed a much better result. We still got tricked on STs however.

Wow... What a graphic.

Interesting that Sask and BC seem to have reversed positions as the season went on.

Ironic too that BC Place used to be the fav stadium of opposition teams to play (except for the noise) but now other stadiums and fans seem to have taken off as neat places to play.

Ottawa can't seem to make up its mind as to what kind of team it is.

The Week 19 graphic is pretty much spot on as to who is likely to head into the playoffs where.

If you showed this to an NFL fan who never saw a game and who knew zero about the CFL, this graphic would be interesting to hear how they'd interpret it from just the pictures.

Media writers picks
MTL at HAM

Neither team owns a ticket to the post-season, yet the Alouettes and Ticats are coming from very opposite directions entering Friday’s season finale. The Ticats are 5-4 since Labour Day and have created hope for 2018, outscoring opponents 262-235 since June Jones and Jeremiah Masoli took the controls.

The Alouettes, on the other hand, are looking to end a 10-game losing streak and have very little to play for on the road. With a last-place finish and first overall pick already under lock and key, Kavis Reed and co. will use this time to evaluate some of their unknown talent, including rookie quarterback Matthew Shiltz, who will make his first career Canadian Football League start.

PICK
Writers: 100% Hamilton
Fans: 95% Hamilton

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WPG at CGY

Injuries and a two-game losing streak have temporarily sidelined the Bombers’ bid of hosting their first playoff game since 2011. With Matt Nichols becoming the latest to join an overcrowded infirmary, the huddle now belongs to journeyman quarterback Dan LeFevour along with Dominique Davis.

A home playoff game is not all that’s at stake for Winnipeg. Momentum is on the minds of coaches Dave Dickenson and Mike O’Shea, with the West Division’s top two teams having combined for four consecutive losses. McMahon Stadium sets the scene for a possible preview of the Western Final in two weeks’ time.

PICK
Writers: 71% Calgary
Fans: 77% Calgary

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDM at SSK

The Eskimos won’t know until late Friday whether they’re playing for home field in the first round of the playoffs, as a win combined with a Winnipeg loss nets them another game at Commonwealth Stadium. Whatever happens beforehand, both the Riders and Eskies will have lots to play for.

A lot has changed since the Riders’ 54-31 victory the last time these sides met. Yes, the Riders, 8-3 in their last 11, are still hot, but so are the Eskimos, winners of four in a row (a combined 12-3 for those counting). Talk about stranger things: the loser of Saturday’s bout travels east in the playoffs, meaning this could be a Grey Cup preview.

PICK
Writers: 71% Edmonton
Fans: 67% Saskatchewan

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TOR at BC

It all comes down to this for the Argos, who can claim their first division title since 2013 with a win over the BC Lions Saturday night. Slippery slotback Anthony Coombs returns to the lineup for Marc Trestman, whose club should be focused and well-rested despite the perils of a late start time on the west coast.

The BC Lions don’t plan on making it easy. Wally Buono’s team is playing loose with nothing to lose, and it starts with quarterback Jonathon Jennings. After struggling through a lot of 2017, Jennings has gone 55-of-71 (77.5%) for 620 yards, 5 TD and 1 INT over his last two starts. Safe to say the real JJ is back.

PICK
Writers: 86% Toronto
Fans: 61% Toronto

Agree that CGY beats WPG.

Think that SSK can beat EDM.

HAM destroys MTL. Kavis has no wins. He should get a bus ticket out of town. Plus the apple and a map.

Masoli passes for 318, runs for 88, with time left. Jones brings out the best in him.
