From Matt Baker with the Lions, excerpts ...
All season long he was clamouring for more touches on offence. And when the chance finally arrived, Chris Rainey did not disappoint.

Rainey had 195 yards from scrimmage and two touchdown catches as your BC Lions (7-10-0) defeated the Blue Bombers (11-6-0) 36-27 on Saturday afternoon. Jonathon Jennings had his best outing of the season, passing for 408 yards and four majors to help his team snap a four-game losing streak.
Rainey wanted the ball, throughout the year, and he got it in this game.

Tremendous display of Jennings' capabilities, when given more support through the game plan, etc.
“Every day in practice the goal is to be better than every receiver out there. When the ball is in the air, I am coming down with it.”

“Rainey is a special cat,” added Jennings.

“He’s a guy that is one of the most tremendous football players I have ever played with, he really has a knack and love for the game, he loves it more than a lot of guys and he just wants that opportunity. You saw what he could do anytime he touches the ball.”
Very special player. This long time football fan cannot remember seeing a player quite like him. Willie Fleming to a degree. Fleming was an amazing running back, and receiver. They are the same size, but with their own unique styles. Similar talent level, I would suggest. Both an absolute treat to watch. Game breakers. Go the distance on any play. Get the fans out of their seats.
It was the third-highest passing total of Jennings’ young career and you got the sense he really has his confidence back as this season comes to a close. He also benefited from solid protection up front.

“We just had a really good plan and stuck do it. And then when we had those opportunities down the field, we made them. O-Line did a hell of a job and then our receivers and running backs just made some crazy good plays.”
In my view, Jennings is also a very special player. We tend to take even the results of this game for granted. 408 yards. 4 TDs. Pinpoint accuracy. Plus he is mobile and very much a quiet, unselfish team player. He faced a lot of defensive pressure in this game. It is in the highlights. But with a better game plan, we were able to get the ball into the receivers' hands. Jennings was able to get the ball into the receivers' hands. We had quick hitters, and a variety of plays we saw very little of this year. Our receivers actually had separation. Better planning and better route running.

Better game plan for sure.
“We know our defence is dominant. We had a couple slip ups at major times in games and one play cost us some games. It’s about today. Everybody keeps talking about ‘were not in the playoffs, ‘blah blah blah.’ But we have two games left and we treat them like playoff games.” -- Lee
Dunno about dominant. Ummm, no. Not in my opinion. Too many breakdowns throughout the year. Not enough pressure on the QB.

When we play like that, fans can have hope, even if it is mostly for entertainment value.

No kidding. Where were all those screens, different formations, flooding zones, motion, sending Rainey deep, and checkdowns for the past two seasons prior to this game?

Amazing that Wally finally figured out (and said after the game) that when Rainey comes into a game as a rotational tailback, we predictably go to him and defenses know that. We all knew that on Lionbackers half-way through the 2016 season.

When I ask myself, what is different about this game compared to all the other games, the answer is : this game is meaningless. So it seems to me there are more 3rd down gambles, more making changes to the Wally way of doing things and generally less conservative approach are now allowed.

Still no rolling out or moving the launch point for passing and running though. :wag:

The question is - was this done just cuz the season's lost for the playoffs or a genuine wake up to how the Lions are too predictable based on who enters the game.

Same with Lumbala in the game. Nice to see him get a pass versus come in just to block - and not just signifying the play and where they're running to.

OTT and EDM use their FBs for either blocking, running or receiving when they come in the game so that's why they're more successful so it seems when their FB grabs a good gain.

The season as Wally is the first to say is what a HC is judged by - not one game irrespective of the quality of the win or the play. No one's suggesting the Lions didn't have to earn the win as sometimes fans downplay the fact that even the worst opponent is still hitting your players or making plays.

Lions STs are a shocker this year. There just seems to be nothing created by the blocking.

We made this play look easy. But Rainey found a crack in the coverage. Jennings zipped a dart in to the tiny slot. And of course Rainey is always very determined to get hold of and hang on to the ball.

We made it look easy.

And as noted, a 3rd down gamble. Whoo Hooooo
