RedBlacks 31 - Lions 24, Post-game Stats and Comments

A stinker.

A debacle.

No intensity. But then ...

Lulay brings back some respectability.

Do we have an onside kick prepared? Nope.

Yell with a pick.

TD Burnham.

Once again, no go for it onside kick. 2.00 time left.

Was Purifoy in early? No.

1:45 left.

LOL. Just another CFL barnburner.

RBs took the foot off the pedal.

Iannuzzi. JJ. 1:27 left. Tipped. Picked off. My heart sinks.

The game was a pig. We put some lipstick on it towards the end.

Our guys showed the character they have, led by Lulay and Manny and Burnie.

But this CFL fan thinks they also showed earlier that they have given up on the coaching staff. Or that there is just too much confusion. Something is wrong. Fans will speculate. Fans will criticize. Fans will defend.

Nice, stylistic touch by Mark Washington with the white gloves. Might make the signals and assignments more clear to his charges. Ummm ... nope. LOL

And on we go ...

I think it's clear who the starter for next game will be.

Ultimately another CFL barnburner. Sort of ... Exciting towards the end, anyway.

Travis showed his amazing character, rallying the team.

Was he able to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear? Not quite. Ottawa is very weak, giving away leads all year. We did not deserve to be in this one, but ya never know.

Many times we had opportunities to go for it, and went the safe route. On one one such occasion, the players looked towards the sideline with disgust, as noted by the announcer.

Some fans will defend. Fair enough. I look forward to Blitz burning the paint off the wall.

Williams isn't worth the money invested. Better to use a National in his place to shore up the OL.

Very frustrating to see him not being utilized. Game breaker and the Lions refuse to go to him. Why sign him in the first place ?

Lulay using his legs, as he has throughout his career.

Did we maximize JJ24? Nope.

Burnham, Manny doing their thing, right to the end, showing their character.

Manny was wonderful at the lowest point.

Funny enough before the late comeback was thinking what veterans could be cut Sept 1 which is now days away. His name was among the first I thought of. Making zero impact.

Save Rainey for returns. Yeah. Brilliant. 7 touches on returns. Yee Haw ...

Better save Rainey. Play it safe.

Plus 1 rush, and 2 receptions. I would not be surprised if he wants to leave in disgust at year's end. Same with Chris Williams. Sue for underuse.

In fairness to Williams he's not getting the ball.

Well, where do we go from here? The wheels are falling off this cart pretty fast now. The Riders are 2 points back with 2 games in hand and the season series. Unless some other carts lose some wheels too, we are looking at 5th place and out of the playoffs by the end of the season and frankly, based on recent play, that is where they should be. This team looks ill. There are many possibilities as to why the malaise but if it continues as such, then I think it is safe to say that come the off season, there is going to be reckoning the likes of which this team hasn't seen in many a year. They aren't just losing games, they are not playing. They have all the signs of a team that has lost faith in the coaching and a team that hasn't got the requisite talent they need in order to complete with other teams especially in the west. A week ago I was wondering if this team had what it took to even get 4th place with some degree of confidence. That thought is anything but confident now. I don't know what to do about the situation but it may be too late now to even think about who you could bring in coaching wise as a consultant to help with what ails us. I suppose there may be some NFL cast offs that can help on the field but I'm not even sure that I want to see this team make the post season at this point. They are outclassed badly by the better teams currently and any post season activity would likely result in a quick exit and a whimper.

Is there anybody in this coaching group that you would think would be a credible option for HC next year if Wally retires as is generally expected. If there is, I don't know who it is. Please someone tell me because no doubt, Wally will be instrumental in choosing a replacement and I have little faith in his ability to be realistic in this regard.

The scuttlebutt outside the team bus is Travis will be the starter for the remainder of the year. Also some gossip re. Brett Boyko's future with the Lions but I don't to get folks hope up....

True. I would like to see him getting the ball on 1st down on crossing routes underneath. If he breaks it, great. If not, it will be 2nd and short, not 2nd and long.
