It had the feeling of inevitability. Eskimos win.

This CFL fan would put Jason Maas right at the top of the list of excellent young coaches in the league, along with Mike O'Shea, Rick Campbell and Dave Dickenson. Lots of deep, detailed game preparation. Players highly motivated.

Just looking at these QB stats, I could hardly say that Reilly kicked Lulay's butt, except on the scoreboard and some key plays (two long bombs).

2 huge drives by the Schmos culminating in TDs in the 4th Q were the differerence.

Watching I could not help but feel, once again, that a young coach, Jason Maas, outdid us with game prep.

Defence.

Schmos 4 sacks. Lions 1 sack.

Even old, conservative Benny seems to be doing a better job on D than we do.

The Lions made too many mistakes to win. They threw two interceptions in scoring territory. One looked like it fluttered out of Lulay's hand when Burnham was open in the end zone. The Esks scored a 108-yard TD two plays later when Ronnie Yell made a rookie mistake peeking into the backfield in man coverage, the same mistake T.J. Lee made when he gave up 2 TDs last week.

The injury to Lee this week forced the Lions to make four changes in the secondary. There were mistakes as a result but for the most part the DBs played hard.

I give Lulay credit for an efficient if unspectacular game aside from his interceptions, completing nearly 85% of his passes. One of his 2 incompletions looked like pass interference but the Lions lost the challenge on the play, along with several other calls that went Edmonton's way. Those are the breaks. The Eskimos lost their RB and kicker so they just threw the ball more, including third and long, and scored 2 late TDs as a result. It was their night, and they now own the season series.

Frustrating night, especially the horrible decisions coming from Glen Johnson in the command centre.

However, the game came down to the fact Eskimos can generate tremendous pressure with a 4 man pass rush and the Lions rarely do.
Very discouraging as I don't see how anything can change that. It certainly didn't between weeks 1 and 6. Despite all our free agent camps we can do no better than sign Evans as a FA agent and bring back Brooks, Turner and Roh for the bulk of the playing time. They are simply not good enough.

Too many big plays, inability to pressure Reilly, offensive line being dominated ...............

First play of the game. 3 man rush. Loads of time for Reilly. Long bomb to Williams. Ughhhh

Reilly will torch your secondary if you give him time. 3 man rush will not do it.

Busted coverage. TD Zylstra. To start the game. OMG.

Brought back unpleasant memories of Warren Moon going long to Bryan Kelly to start the game.

Benny brings 5 men on the rush. Sack. Zero time for Lulay.

Rolly misses. Palmer misses. Someone in the middle misses. Jail break.

Soft coverage. 10 yard drop. Easy pickings.

Some of us wondered about our personnel on the D Line. Any All-Stars there? Over the years that is one area where we were loaded with All-Stars. Not so much these days. I like our NATs. No criticism there. But we need our INTs to be dominant IMO.
