I didn't realize the rule had been changed this year but indeed a kickoff is now required after a field goal after the 3 minute warning in the fourth quarter. That's great. I hated it when the rule was changed a few years ago to allow teams to scrimmage from their own 35 after a field goal because it was harder for teams to come back from 10 or 11-point deficits. Instead of kicking a field goal and then trying an onside kick, teams had to go for a touchdown first and then attempt an onside kick to set up a field goal. Otherwise, teams defending a lead could avoid an onside kick attempt by scrimmaging at their own 35 and trying to run out the clock. In the NFL, where kickoffs are required after all field goals, trailing teams can kick a field goal and then try an onside kick. It allows for more excitement and makes comebacks easier.
