The CFL really needs to come up with a newly designed All-Star system, with a new nickel back position. Maurice Leggett would be my choice for that position.

Wow, no love for JJ at the QB position. That is a bit surprising given the Lions record and how important he was a contributor to that.
Tell me how long must a fan be strong? Ans. Always.

JJ has a tremendous up side but right now I would not rate him above Mitchell or Reilly, would you?

I can't argue with any of the selections above but here are the Lions who have most impressed me. Hopefully they'll finish the season strong and earn year-end all-star consideration.

OFFENCE:
WR Manny Arceneaux - on pace for over 1,300 receiving yards, a career high. Ranks 6th in the league in second-down conversions.
WR Bryan Burnham - on pace for close to 1,300 yads, a career high. Ranks 3rd in the league in catches of 30 yards or more.
WR Shawn Gore - on pace his first 1,000-yard season. In a close battle with Ottawa's Brad Sinopli to be the league's top Canadian receiver.
C Cody Husband - I had no idea he would be the team's starting centre before training camp, but he has quietly done a great job in all facets of the game, especially using his powerful 6-foot-7 frame to manhandle the league's top nose tackles.
LG Hunter Steward - He must have done something right to get mid-seson all-star consideration from fans and media despite being benched by the coaches. Steward, Jovan Olafioye and Cody Husband were a powerful force in the running game in the early part of the season. With Steward in the lineup, the Lions usually had great success rushing to the left side of the line.

DEFENCE:
CB Ronnie Yell - It's tough to throw to his side of the field, despite the fact he has had to line up beside with three starting short-side halfbacks due to season-ending injuries. He comes up well to make plays on the run and on screens to the short side.
LB Adam Bighill - No surprise. He's all over the field making plays. Had a particularly strong start to the season.
LB Solomon Elimimian - Started slowly as he recovered from Achilles surgery but has come on strong. Set a team record with 14 tackles against Toronto, plus an INT, sack and knockdown but didn't even get the defensive game ball. People just assume greatness from Team 100 every game.
DE Alex Bazzie - League's sack leader has great quickness off the edge but also is well disciplined to contain the run and is used in pass coverage in the zone blitz.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
P Richie Leone - With his 50.6-yard average, the Lions have a huge advantage in field position every time they punt. He's not great at hitting the coffin corner but he's a beast from the Lions' side of midfield and can punt the team out of trouble.

I thought it was great that DC Mark Washington got a game ball as he has really come in to his own as a play caller and can now be considered among the top DCs in the CFL. He has become the DC that Wally said he would be so hats off to Wally for recognizing a talent and believing in him.

Just an example: Elimimian's sack on Ray was beautifully choreographed with the D line guys all tying up their guys and Solly looping around completely untouched. Well executed.

Might we see Mark Washington as the next Head Coach of the B.C. Lions when Wally's ready to step down? Perhaps Barron Miles coming back to B.C. to be the DC?

Probably not but he should get some honorable mention. He is the most junior of the above mentioned and has so far helped this team perform above expectations. Reilly is working with a one year out Grey Cup team and Mitchell has the benefit of some of the most innovative thinkers in the game as well as being only 2 years removed from a cup. Those are sizable advantages that JJ hasn't got and still they sit second overall in the league. It makes you wonder what the record with might be if he had a Dickenson guiding him.
