Battle of the Felines. Will be interesting to see if the Lions have corrected their special teams coverage. You can bet Hamilton's Jeff Rhinebold will have a few tricks up his sleeve for Leone.

No one is picking the Lions to win, including me. However the Lions D is better and more experienced than most realize, so the D should keep it close and then who knows?

Lions desperately need ball control on O because every short drive is an opportunity for Brandon Banks to do damage on punt returns.

Just like last week, only hoping Lions can be competitive from start to finish. Don't see many visiting teams winning in Hamilton this season. Just nice to know Lions head into this with Western rivals a combined 0-4 now and at worst 1 team will be tied with them heading into week #3.

O-line needs to make a statement out of the gate and not wait until the final drive like last week. Early success on the ground would be huge. Jennings was forcing the deep ball last week but don't want to see him shy too much away from it. It opens up the underneath stuff and the way he stretched the field is what got us so excited last season in the first place. Bigger concern might have been what little separation our receivers were getting on those routes.

Hoping Mark Washington has taken a step forward in his career with the game he called last week. Lions effectively used the blitz and will need to do so again.

Can't think of a better way to enjoy Canada Day than watching the Leos!

I'm really looking forward to this game. We won a tough game against Calgary in our season opener, as our defense kept us in the game until our offence got going in the second half and Rainey was also able to take one to the house. Our final drive ate up the clock as our offensive line was able to open holes against a tired Calgary defensive line.

We're on the road for this game and we'll have a clearer idea of how much our Leos team has improved in 2016 by the end of this game.

Last year our Leos led going into the fourth quarter on six occasions and lost 5 of those six games. We could easily have been 11-7 last season with better fourth quarter play. No doubt Wally saw, looking at last years' squad that our Leos were not far away from being a winning team and Jennings was the quarterback who had the abilities to lead a Leo resurgence in 2016.

On offence, our revamped offensive line, with new center Cody Husband, starting rookie Charles Vaillancourt at right guard, and Hunter Steward moved to left guard, the interior of our offensive line is new for this season. Olifoye was moved to left tackle and with Adcock hurt, Anthony Johnson starts his second game at right tackle.

Our offence had its struggles in the first half of our season opener. We didn't run the football and our offensive line gave Jennings almost no time to throw. Jennings took hit after hit in the first half and was under duress on almost every passing play. In the second half our offensive line our offensive line play showed significant improvement. Most of our run yards in the game, except for Jennings scampers, came on the final drive.

If we are to be successful against Hamilton today, we'll need to run the football successfully a lot earlier in the game. Hamilton has a bigger defensive line than Calgary and Hamilton's defense is very aggressive and uses a lot of different blitzes and looks. Jennings will also need more time to throw in the first half. Getting behind on the road is a much tougher pill to overcome than playing at home.

With Burnham, Arsenault, and Moore inside we have capable recievers who can get open. But a key to our season opening victory was the play of Gore, playing a new position as our short side wide receiver. Gore has 7 catches in the game and was targeted 11 times. If Gore can continue to play at a high level, as a Canadian wide receiver on the short side, it will make our offence that much tougher to defend.

Defensively, in our season opener, we saw some suprises from the usual recipe of a Mark Washington defense. In the first half, our defence came up with an impressive goal line stand, holding Calgary at bay, even with four cracks from the one hard line. Brooks tacke on Drew Tait was a key play in the game. In the second half, Washington dialed up more blitzes than usual and more impressively, we executed most of them very well. Bighill was used often as a blitzer, a key difference from last season, when we surprisingly dropped him as a second free safety for a chunk of the season.

Minter was dropped from the squad this week and didn't play in our season opener due to injury. Maxx Forde, a sleeper in last years' draft has had an excellent training camp. I wonder if he will get his shot today or not.

Hamilton quarterback Jeremiah Masoli passed for 318 yards and three majors as the Tabbies scored 42 points in their season opener. in Toronto last week. Chad Owens, Luke Tasker and Andy Fantuz will challenge our defensive secondary Banks is a weapon when he joins Hamilton's offence, and running back CJ Gable is no slouch at tailback. With Kent Austin designing Hamilton's offence, our defense will need to play very well again in order to win this game.

Obviously, special team play has to improve. Brandon Banks will hurt us badly unless our coverage is disciplined. Three blocked punts could easily have been our downfall against Calgary and must be fixed because Rinebolt will be testing us. Rainey was contained most of the night in our season opener, until his big return. Rainey showed what he can do if he can get some initial space to work with.

This game will be a tough test for our 2016 edition of our B.C. Lions.

Hope all Lionbackers will enjoy a well-played contest.

I'm really hoping the Lions decide to run right over the Ticats today. I would love, love, love it if they came out double tight and ran out of the power I for the first series, (throwing only to an eligible lineman in the red zone). This group needs to learn they're big enough to dominate.

Hey, a man can dream, right?

Cheers,

Hamilton's front four is much bigger and stronger than Calgary's. All-star nose tackle Ted Laurent is back after missing the opener with an injury, and and game-breaking linebacker Simoni Lawrence can make plays against the run and pass. If the Lions can handle Hamilton's front seven, they can handle anyone.

Last Saturday, Wales won and advanced into the round of 8 of Euro 16; very much against conventional wisdom. That same day the prognosticators got it wrong with the Leo's as well when they beat the stamps.

Earlier today Wales had a huge upset victory over Belgium in the Euros to reach the semi-finals despite being HUGE underdogs. The stars are obviously aligning in the Lions favour and I predict a Leo's win.

The TiCats flattered to deceive last week against a flat, listless Argo team. Ricky Ray was decidedly un-Ricky Ray-like and the Stubler-style Argo defence was too conservative and too new for their D to put any pressure on Masoli. Masoli will be forced into making bad decisions in the face of an aggressive BC defence, the ST will tighten up on punt coverage and Banks along with Laurent are still rusty from injuries or not attending TC.

I don't dare go against the will of the stars. They want a Leo's win and so does this Welsh boy!

Given that Jonathon Jennings has more experience and better career stats than Jeremiah Masoli and that the Lions won the last meeting between these teams in convincing fashion, a Lions' win is more likely than some would think. But Hamilton is tough to beat at home and the Ticats feast on turnovers and big special-teams plays. That's where they have the advantage.

Love the road unis! Just not a fan of the new logo. Would just prefer the Lion head without the striping but that's just me!

Love the road look. The all white logo on the helmet and the modern yet simplistic look really works. No weird Reebok piping.

Defence bends butndoesn't break, thanks to a sack off a first-down blitz. 1-0 Hamilton.

Why in gods name wouldn't the away uniforms have black stockings, to accentuate the orange pants?

They look like the way Wally's cleaning lady dresses, who comes in on Thursdays :tease:
