While Jones has been as outstanding DC for many years on several teams, he has less than a year as a GM and less than 3 years as a HC and it shows.
I don't think he is capable of being humble and he needs to be if he is going to learn and grow as a GM/HC. It wouldn't upset me if he doesn't change.

Why should he be upset. He should be used to it by now.pennw wrote:Could be that he was just a little upset after losing yet another game .CardiacKid wrote: Jones is back to his old tricks with not shaking hands with the opposing coach. Rakeem Cato got into AGAIN with Duron Carter along with Kenny Stafford at today's Alouette practice. This time it seemed Staffordlso was the main target of Cato's fury...and apparently he was highly pissed off. Cato had to be escorted to the Al's dressing room.
Cato is quoted as saying; "As a human, you can't keep being pinched, pinched, pinched and not do anything. Eventually, that dog's gonna bite"

How much longer is Popp going to tolerate Carter's antics.
Als are an embarrassment. Popp should be fired for creating/allowing this mess. Complete mismanagement of the salary cap, player recruitment, coach selection, and now turning the team into a public spectacle to boot. I'd rather be a Rider fan than Als fan nowadays, Khalif Mitchell signing notwithstanding!

Bombers won their 7th straight with a 46-29 comeback win against the Toronto Argos. Bombers are now tied with the Lions for 2nd place, each with 16 points.
A costly roughing the passer penalty on Ricky Foley with the Argos up 29-22 negated an Argo interception and changed the momentum of the game. Winnipeg scored three plays later to tie the game and start a run of 24 unanswered points.TheLionKing wrote:Bombers won their 7th straight with a 46-29 comeback win against the Toronto Argos. In the second game of the day, Stamps laying a licking on the RedBlacks - 30-14 at the half. First 3 possessions result in 3 Stampeder touchdowns.
With Kavis Reed, Noel Thorpe, Jacques Chapdelaine and Anthony Calvillo on staff, the only question is who will be Popp's successor. He can't hang on.maxlion wrote:Als ST coack Kavis Reed makes statement to media that Popp is still Als coach amid rumours that he is stepping down. Odd that the GM/HC is not making this statement. Leave it to the ST coach to clarify the HC situation?
The Lions can't seem to get any help in the standings. Calgary has now won 11 straight and Winnipeg has won seven straight.
How does a team beat Calgary? Tough question. Calgary has used about eleven different offensive linemen this year. Wilson has played center, guard, and tackle. Yet they keep on protecting Bo Levi. Their offensive line is huge. Messam is a horse. All their receivers are very good. Daniels comes in as a rookie and plays lights out. Simpson, their first draft choice, is now their starting middle linebacker.B.C.FAN wrote:With Kavis Reed, Noel Thorpe, Jacques Chapdelaine and Anthony Calvillo on staff, the only question is who will be Popp's successor. Calgary hasn't lost a game since their season opener at B.C. Place, when we beat them. They've lost 4 games at home in the past five years.
Nichols continues to shine for the Bombers.
Our Leos gotta keep winning and keep getting better.

The scuttlebutt is that Popp had a rough week dealing with some stressful family issues Stateside. Reed handed him the game ball in recognition of what he went through. Dunk wanting to be a first to report everything put 2 and 2 together and came up with 7. He took tha gesture as indication Popp had coached his last game and ran with it. If the seasons the Als and Riders are having proves anything, teams really need to take a long hard look if they want to have their Head Coach and GM wearing multiple hats such as Popp and Jones. On a practical level I simply don't understand how all the accumulated responsibilities of each job could be properly dealt with in a day. There simply aren't enough hours. And especially when you factor in being an on-field coordinator like Jones, something has to give. I think we can agree the various offensive, defensive and special team coordinators put in ridiculously long hours during the season.
We saw Kent Austin hand the GM reins to Eric Tillman this year, though I have no idea if that was imposed upon him or he got the ball rolling with that.
There have been exceptions of course; Hufnagel and Wally had success wearing multiple hats but to what extent did they rely on delegation? I have no way of answering that but I can certainly appreciate their desire to move upstairs and hand the reins over to new head coaches; the physical and mental demands can't met indefinitely.
Along with the practicality of having one person performing all these vital positions, to what degree does it become worrisome that an individual believes they can do these jobs well? The phrase pride goeth before the fall springs to mind. Also someone who believes they can do all these jobs (like Jones) could very well have an unrealistic sense of their abilities and make really bad decisions.
Jones has a laundry list of bad decisions this year. Popp has mishandled the Als salary cap and may have to pay for it. Maybe too many hats cut the blood flow to their brain?
I think the way the Riders and Als manage and coach their teams is untenable in this day and age.
