Jennings will be live in the studio on 1040 in the eleven o'clock hour, according to Sekares.
The timing of the new contract is a bit different from what we've come to expect from Wally (in a good way).

I sure hope Khari doesn't adopt Cortez's cure for insomnia play calling. While I can't deny the amount of experience that Tedford/Cortez brought to the Lions, they sure didn't seem to be able to do anything with it.SammyGreene wrote:Great news on Jennings. Now up to Khari Jones as OC to continue is development. Offence and a dynamic QB is what sell tickets. Really is make it or break point of Jones career if he is to be a head coach one day. Hoping he learned a lot under Tedford/Cortez last season.
If memory serves, they brought a slew of QB prospects to camp. By the end of the year, one of these prospects had become the most exciting and highest performing QB in the league. If Jennings can help turn around the team's fortunes this year, Tedford and Cortez deserve some credit for that. Developing young QBs is what they are known for, and exactly what happened here.DanoT wrote:

Good on Wally and Jennings to get this deal done.

Wally is quietly doing what he has always done..... landing big talent and signing very good prospects (McGhee and Price and potentially Adams). The QB stable is once again being groomed as the envy of the league in QB developmental depth and in the #1 and #2 QB's.

There is no question that Tedford's recognizing Jennings potential is a very considerable contribution to the BC Lions. However a 7-11 record was far less praise worthy. In spite of terrific stats for his first 6 starts, Jennings was only 3-3. OTOH when he wasn't starting the team was a lot worse at 4-8.maxlion wrote:If memory serves, they brought a slew of QB prospects to camp. Hearing Jonathon Jennings extension with the #BCLions is close to 800,000 dollars over the next 3 years. Big number in 3rd year.

Not quite $800K. According to LU it is $150K, $175K, and $300K. The amounts for the year one and two are actually a bit higher than I expected. It also sounds like WB had this contract in his desk drawer all along and was just waiting for the best time (in terms of PR and press coverage) to get it signed. Seems like a very fair deal for both parties. The 3rd year salary is sort of irrelevant as by then Jennings will either be good enough to demand much more money, or he will choose to take his services down south. If he does not live up to his potential the Lions will simply cut him before the the 3rd year of his contract kicks in.B.C.FAN wrote:The Lions have signed Jennings to an extension through 2018.

Apparently there is also up to $60k available per year in performance bonus money.Belize City Lion wrote:Not quite $800K. According to LU it is $150K, $175K, and $300K. Jennings original contract would have expired after 2017 and he could have then tested NFL interest. Apparently this new contract allows him to pursue the NFL after 2017 and then return to the CFL (for $300k) in 2018 if things don't pan out in the NFL . This is a real Win/Win for player and team.
